Here are a few quotes from Paddy Kenny, when speaking about his ban and subsequent return:

"I owe the club my career because you don't know what could have happened,"

"Another club might not have gone the same route. But everybody has stood by me and I can't repay them enough."

"I really did think that was me done at Sheffield United," added Kenny.
"But I got a phone call from the chairman [Kevin McCabe] and he said 'don't worry, I'll stand by you,' and he has done.
It made me realise I still had a future in the game and it made me determined to come back better than ever."

"The fact it was a home game helped. In the end it wasn't just a good reception, it was amazing, so I can't thank the fans enough and I'm now delighted to be back."

Is talk really that cheap, that he would say such platitudes, and then disappear at the first sniff of a bit of extra cash? I personally don't think so, and I don't think this 'move' is down to Paddy, I suspect that there is more to it than meets they eye!

It is widely rumoured that Paddy's departure will be announced on Friday. IF this is the case I'm afraid messers Birch and McCabe will not be seeing my debit card for some considerable time. You would have thought the disappointing season ticket sales and the alarming number of replica shirts left at the end of the season might have got the message across, but clearly not...

I think it's likely that Kenny wanted the £750k clause inserting in his contract in case something better came along.
Whether that was greed or disloyalty or common sense on his part depends on your point of view.
It wasn't, however, the greatest bit of contractual work by SUFC.

I would love to know where the 'rumour' of the clause came from?
Who says Paddy wants to go to QPR. Considering his young family being brought up now by his 'mate', would you move away?
Has Sitwell ever got anything right?

I'm guessing the rumour of the clause came from its actual existence.

What if it's not "a bit of extra cash"? What if it's £3m of extra cash and 2 or 3 years extra in terms of job security?

Exactly. We're often talking life-changing sums of money. I don't blame any player (Monty, Naughton, Walker, etc..) for moving on when the stakes are so high.

What us fans should expect is to be treated with honesty, and given total commitment when under contract. Killa didn't do that and got plenty of stick. Now if Paddy goes having made those statements about his debt to us, then he may earn his share of stick too.

I reckon clause was put in by Utd ,Kenny could have gone for nothing but now we can get close on a million pounds if he goes. Paddys new contract was on vastly reduced wages and on shorter terms. United stood by him so they could get something for him if we hadn't he would have gone for free.

And Mr Sheffielder ,I was a week before Mr Shields and the 3 tossers down at Radio Sheffield who apparently have their finger on the pulse.

The Star have this quote so it seems the clause is there."Although Rangers' offer falls significantly below United's valuation, particularly as Kenny remains under contract, it is understood to relate to a clause inserted into the deal he signed whilst serving a nine month suspension after testing positive for banned stimulant ephedrine midway through the 2009 play-off semi-final with Preston North End.United are also believed to be seeking advice as to whether the terms of Kenny's employment, drawn-up before the arrival of chief executive Trevor Birch, render the clause null and void."

Not necessarily. We could have sold him either way. But with a clause, Kenny has the right to opt out.

It has been reported on the BBC that there is a clause.

It also says that this doesn't match the clubs valuation, so why the bloody hell did we agree to this clause in the first place?

Theres two routes we could have gone, baring in mine that hes serving a 9 month ban at the moment of the negotiations & he has one year left on his contract.

Route One - WITHOUT CLAUSE
We negotiate to pay Paddy 7k per week through the ban to the end of his contract (July 2010) £7,000 x 52 Weeks = £364,000. End of his contract comes we just paid him £364k and now its just come out hes singing for QPR for... FREE. We lose money.

Route Two - WITH CLAUSE
We negotiate to pay Paddy 7k per week through the ban to the end of his contract (July 2010) £7,000 x 52 Weeks = £364,000. (in this we make sure there is a clause saying he can go for no less than £750,000). End of his contract comes we just paid him £364k and now its just come out that QPR want him.. but oh wait! They have to pay 750k, meaning we have GAINED something from this.

Thats how i see it anyway.
Also the 7k was just a rough guess, i suspect its something in that region (give & take), due to him not playing.

Excuse me for thinking that an employee who commits an offence against the laws of the game should be able to continue to the end of his lucrative contract thereby not suffering in the slightest for his offence. OPTION THREE...sack him without pay and we gain £364k. How come we class it as a gain if we actually receive less then £400k for a goalkeeper who is supposed to be the best in the division.

I may be thick but that doesn't make sense at all.

My understanding was/is that we signed Paddy till the summer of 2011 (why would we give him a new contract till the summer of this year when he couldn't play), therefore had Paddy accepted a contract from us WITH OR WITHOUT clause QPR would have to pay us, and if there was no clause we could probably get more than 750K.

personally i have no problem with players leaving to better themselves and earn a bigger crust, its what we all go to work for,but i use the words "BETTER THEMSELVES",that does,nt mean going to other championship clubs that are no better than us,i dont see that being a step up, look at rob hulse, going to derby a real step up,he is looking for a move again, tongue is being farmed out again, james beattie will be moving on,(ok it was wages with him)killgallon not playing week in week out.its ok going for the big wedge but then they fuckin moan when they dont play every game.
paddy should tell QPR to fuck off and show us the loyalty we showed him

So the 4 tossers could have basically got it off gossip on here? Even took them a week to get their information. oh come on.

Where is the FACT?

I think sitters is one of the few on here that wouldn't say something unless it had some sort of credibility.

His contract was due to run out last July, making him a free agent (even when banned) so he could sign a contract with anyone at any time, making it harder for us to keep him?
