yeah no doubt.. there is a bit of PR going on here.. we don't want to disappoint our fans by saying 'ooh we just sold our talented full back for a paltry 700 k plus unattainable addons' and the villa don't want to say.. I think the truth is nobody knows and it's all guesswork. I'd be suprised if we'd sold for £700K, but who knows. £700K might be the first payment, but I don't think any fees are ever paid in full upfront, whatever the addon criteria are agreed.

Given what I know of Lowton's ability (a 23 year old who has only looked decent in a struggling 2nd tier/good 3rd tier side), I would be highly surprised if the guaranteed payment is anything more than £1M. The rest is probably on appearances.
