Selling our best players and using the money to buy worse ones. Stupid bastards.

Wonder if we can use some of the £3M to entice McDonald and Williamson by giving them a signing on fee?

A player of real quality. Gutted. All the best Marty.

Is this to be a Ched Evans £3 million, with say half a million up front and then some buttons as add-ons?

Let's start with a new fax machine.

Typical United. Sold our best player. Thanks a bunch.

The "Selling Club" continues to live up to it's name. Broke again due to serial incompetence.

The Telegraph would have us believe it's an "initial £3m". That would be a great deal if true.

Aston Villa sign Sheffield United defender Matthew Lowton as Paul Lambert shores up defence

Paul Lambert is making his second signing at Aston Villa after completing an initial £3m deal for Sheffield United defender Matthew Lowton.

So we dismantled the team that failed in the playoff final in the championship and it relegated us.

Now it seems we can't even afford to hold together the team that failed in the playoffs in league one.

Where is it going to end?

Has there ever been a thread up this long after a sale without the phrase "An excellent piece of business by the club, well done Mr McCabe" featuring?

Debt hasn't changed a bit. This money is for cash flow purposes. Will help us survive until the next asset sale.

Yes you are probably right we are in danger of becoming another Notts County or worse another Port Vale.

It's disappointing to see him go, but anyone that thinks the club's making an error here must be completely oblivious to the financial situation we're in - not to mention the issue we might have with the player if we were to deny him a Premiership move on a 4-year deal. Most of us expected him to be off last summer to the Championship - we've been lucky to have had him last season.

I hope he does well, but I'm far less confident in his ability to make the step-up to Premiership full-back than I was with either of the Kyles. Given the resources Villa have, I would have expected them to go for someone that's established themselves in an upper-Championship club at the very minimum. Perhaps in time they'll convert him to a midfielder.

If the money is used for Danny Wilson to finance the first team then it's potentially a good move. If it goes towards Kevin McCabe's overdraft then it's another fuck up. As a Blade I hope for the former but suspect the latter. We will see.

We should all by now know it will be the latter :(

All this guff about wanting to field a team with a high proportion of home-grown players can now safely join 'Europe in five years' in the platitude bin.

Can't remember who it was that I slaughtered for saying that a premiership club would pay 3 million for him, but if this deal comes to pass than I offer my humble apologies.

The world has literally gone mad. But In a good way for us mccabes pockets

I entirely agree.

Lowton only started getting in United's team (at the age of 21) when we turned crap in 2010. He was a regular in the 2010-11 team that failed to cope with the second tier and has only stood out as a third tier player.

Why on earth a PL club would want him is beyond me.

Whats all this its a good deal lark? Only if we end up with a better first team than we finished last season with. Otherwise its money down the drain again.

I've heard platitudes and defeatist guff like this after every sale since Beattie onwards. This is a broken strategy.

I don't care how he'd fare in the Pl. he was a very good league one player and we have precious few of those left.

Quick fix for you there Rev.

We have a history of selling our better players and ending up lower down the pyramid but some people seem not to understand this.
If we replace him with a better "team" then fair do's, but when did we ever do that?

I think ML is very good going forward and it wouldn't surprise me if it still showed in the PL.

But, his defensive attributes are left wanting somewhat and that is what might let him down, unless Lambert can improve him in that department

Bugger, I was going to go with Deane and Fjortoft. Damn you, bigger Blades.
