For what it's worth I believe that an Evans /Ward partnership up front would probably be much more effective than using the Henderson common denominator. With Henderson in the side it dictates generally the type and style we adopt but with Evans / Ward up front I believe we would be much more flexible and adaptable in our approach play!

The management at BDTBL on he football side of things are woefull.

Remember when we were in the Premiership and they were buying players for the future ? :D:D:D:D:D

Can't even argue with that fact Fahti, Shelton, Kazim Richards, were all bought for the future!

Gives a good range of views though Mr Fox

It does and it's an interesting read, but it doesn't negate the fact that many thought it was a bad signing.

Ok so if he was lacking match fitness, was shy and hadn't really got to know anybody yet, wasn't sure on the tactics at a new club you will still make him walk straight into the side purely on the fact he cost more money than someone else?

Had me in stitches this, hope is was meant to be funny.

Lacking match fitness? How's he going to get that other than playing?
Shy and doesn't know his colleagues? Aren't there any librarian jobs going in Sheffield then? I suggest a complete career change.
Not sure of the tactics? "Just graze around here son and when one of them lads back there launches it see if you can get somewhere near it". How thick must he be not to understand that?

I can, sort of, appreciate the point that the fee isn't the most crucial part of the equation but I would love to be around to hear Blackwell explain to McCabe why the majority of the transfer budget has gone on someone who isn't ready to play. Crazy.

My main aim with that post was to get somebody to answer a question. Sadly said person seems incapable of answering direct questions, in this thread and others today. I wasn't referring to Evans in that post, just in general to see if this is how said poster would go about being a manager.

One question though, why should someone require a career change if they are shy?

I really find this hard to take Swiss. Do you genuinely mean what you say or is it just a natural default position from you?

Of course it isn't Evans's fault but why was he signed then? Why give Blackwell a break for spending big money on a player who he now says is not good enough to start every week.

I don't expect himt o be scoring every game but surely he has to offer more thna he has done so far. either that or KB deserves stick for signing him? Very hard to say divert blame away from Evans and KB in the same arguments isn't it?

You find it hard to take? Christ, what about the rest of us that see the endless negative drivel on here :D

I should apologise, I meant give Evans a Break, not Blackie on this occasion.

Of course I also think Blackie should be given a break. So he buy a player for 3million, with the boards approval. Perhaps he also said before buying him that he'd need time to work with the fitness boys and get match fit. Therefore by about Oct/ November he'd be firing on all cylinders like Ward...Absolutely nothing wrong with that.

He's our most expensive player, surely we want to protect the investment. Afterall its proven with Ward how much of a loss he is when he gets injured. Last season Ward was good, but couldn't finish, this was clearly worked on in the summer and he looked very good until his injury.

The most annoying thing is that players are judged nowadays on their transfer value. If the manager (any manager) likes a player, he has to be prepared to pay the value that the selling club puts on him.

The negative posts on here are so repetitive.

But from that thread, theres only 3/4 people saying it was a bad signing.

"One question though, why should someone require a career change if they are shy?"

Depends on what they do.

I would suggest a career whereby you parade yourself in front of between 1,000 and 75,000 on a weekly basis and have media types crawling up your arse 7 days a week is not the career of choice for shy persons.
Oh, and driving that flash car so that everyone in the district knows you're coming?

Messi seems to cope well with being shy :) Shyness comes in many forms. I'm not suggesting Evans is shy by the way.

I don't recall anyone ever saying this.

Everyone was saying he was a shit 4th division player. We sell Beattie and buy this nobody, blah blah blah!

Someone pre-season said that Ward wouldn't score 5 goals his season. I said 15+.. If you find the poll on the leading scorers my choice was Ward. If he hadn't got injured he'd probably be on double figures now! (Then where would we be in the table??)

People had no faith in Jamie Ward until he started banging them in, he needed time and now he's got it. Same as Evans.

Anyone changing clubs needs to settle in their new surroundings and when you first arrive at a club you're actually unfit then you need even more. I think Evans will start to come good if he gets a couple of consecutive goals under his belt.

Evans is struggling because of the style we play, ie hoofing everything in the general direction of Henderson. Perhaps even the manager has noticed that Evans and Henderson don't work as a partnership and it is clearly affecting Evans' confidence.
Evans and Ward should be the front two and maybe we will get that now Henderson has, stupidly but predictably, got himself suspended.

How is it bullshit? He wanted to bring him into the team slowly like he did with Jamie Ward but he hasn't been able to because of the injury to Jamie Ward. I think that is a correct statement as to the current situation.

Also Evans has only cost £1.5m so far.
It's said to be half of that mate!! £750k

I'm sorry but since when do Sheffield United ease £3m players into the first team?
It's an incredible statement to make.

We're easing a 20 year old into the team! Doesn't matter how much he cost. Ward is a lot older (24 ithink?) but we had to ease him into the team as he hadn't played at this level.

With Evans he had only really played for Man City in europe (so technically a reserve team) Wales U/21's (so worse than our reserves) or Wales Seniors (reserve standard) or Norwich (where he was a bloody big fish!!!)

So that's why he needs easing in. This is probably the best group of players he's played with, other than his 10 minute cameo's he's had in the prem with City!

It's also said to be double it. The fact is none of us know how much Evans has cost us so far (by my reckoning, about 8 points!)

Stick to cheap car insurance

there's just absolutely no need to make a statement that looks in it's timing to be so obviously another excuse for recent results.

If he wanted to bring him in slowly why the hell did we let sharp go and have just three strikers - two who are being brought in slowly and one who had a career history showing he can't manage a season without being suspended several times over.

He just keeps harping on and on bleating like mary's little lamb without realising that the square root of all the excuses is him and his earlier decision making. If I was Mccabe I'd be furious with the way he's handling a rocky spell, especially after having gone to so much trouble to convince him to stay here, given him money to spend and backed him with a new contract.

And don't let's forget that as well as being potentially £3m Mccabe has also recently confirmed he's one of the most expensively paid players in this league. For someone that isn't going to play every week? At a time Blackwell is also purporting us to be broke?

Grow some balls Blackwell and put up, stay out of the media, stop making excuses and concentrate on improving things quietly and quickly or resign.

How about because he is twenty years old.

Kyle Walker is younger than Evans and has less appearances to his name, same with Naughton last year. Don't see too much cotton wool treatment on those 2 do you? But then again neither of them have been a waste of money so far like Ched ( who incidentally i thought was slightly better against Barnsley )

Depends on your source

He needs easing in because we have good players? Come on..... that's lame.

Everyone was saying he was a shit 4th division player.

You may have got a handful saying this at most, but the majority saw no problem with the signing providing we obviously was looking at others too.

Someone pre-season said that Ward wouldn't score 5 goals his season. I said 15+.. If you find the poll on the leading scorers my choice was Ward. If he hadn't got injured he'd probably be on double figures now! (Then where would we be in the table??).

He'd be on double figures? HAHAHAHAHAHA, wait wait HAHAHAHAHAHA, yeah ok. Course he would.

People had no faith in Jamie Ward until he started banging them in, he needed time and now he's got it. Same as Evans..

Banging them in? BANGING THEM IN? Are you serious? Really? BANGING THEM IN? Oh dear.

Anyone changing clubs needs to settle in their new surroundings and when you first arrive at a club you're actually unfit then you need even more. I think Evans will start to come good if he gets a couple of consecutive goals under his belt.

I agree that I think Evans will come good.
But settle in? He's been here..... 4 months now?
I don't think he needs to settle in, I think he needs a different partner up front.

To be fair, Naughton has been a waste of money so far for Spurs ;)

Does it matter what he said? To say many of those in this thread think he talks bullshit all the time, they don't half hang on every thing he says.

I want him out too, but starting a thread every single time he says something a little off centre, means you sound like a obsessive schoolgirl with a teenage crush.

If we all started threads every time someone posted some drivel, we'd have board full of DavePinder threads no?

Then maybe he should keep his big mouth shut, as when he opens it a load of shit comes out

VERY harsh on the Pinder, theblade1957

and Kyle Walker is in the only environment he has ever known. He knows the team, the players, the backroom staff, he has Foggy and all the guys at the academy to talk to he has a full support structure within the club which he has been at for at least 8 years.
Ched doesn't have any of this, no one at the club he knows previously and is having to put down these roots. So far he's had 4 months and the fans are already getting on his back.

Judging on the season so far they have performed at the similar level yet Walker doesn't seem to be getting to stick Ched is.
Also using Len's value system Walker (£5 Million plus sell on and loan back) cost double what Ched has (£3 Million). It just that Walker cost Spurs and not us and would be their waste of money.

Evans has been a disappointment. There's no denying that. However, he's not been nearly as bad as Len would have you think judging by his posts.

He needs time to settle in to a different style of play. That said, I have my suspicions that he will never fit into the way we play with Blackwell in charge.
