Worrying comments about Reed from Deadbat

When he broke through into the side, he looked an amazing prospect.
Time on the ball, vision, and a great passer.

I watched him extremely closely at Notts County, where he was utterly abject and it made for painful watching.
I'm not exaggerating when I say he barely put a foot right.
When Clough finally woke up and took him off after 60 plus minutes, it was like watching a dog suffering.
I said he has finally put him out of his misery.

I addition, he now has had several really poor performances now.

He really seems a player now looking wafer thin on confidence.
I can't believe I've ever seen a youngster regress so much so quickly , and I do wonder why this is so.

Yep played shocking today but as said he's very young and there is plenty of time yet.

18 or not, Reed was dreadful today.

Much polishing of the diamond required to be anything like the finished article.

IMHO.

Promotion is soon.

Must be your mate Nigels fault for playing him wrong ,clearly what you are getting at. A hedgehog got knocked down on our road last night too ,obviously Cloughs fault

I tend to agree that he has been a passenger for the last couple of months. But he's only young and his talent especially earlier on in the season is clear to see. Give him another full pre season under his belt and a continued run in the team next year and I'm sure he blossom into one of our better midfielders

I thought Reed was poor today, but poor by the standards he has already set himself at 17.

All players will have bad games, and rather than be overly critical today I mentioned to my dad I sometimes have to remind myself that he's still only 17.

The positives from today were that he kept going, didn't shy away from anything and was prepared to play out of position when we changed shape. He gave the ball away too much, but that didn't stop him trying and still demonstrated on a couple of occasions his passing range.

Still a very exciting prospect. I hope he will be a key player in the next two or three years, and beyond if his development matches the club's on field achievements and aspirations.

He's not happy I've said it already clearly showed today IMO.

If he weren't happy in the way you mean . Clough would not have played him. The kid is 18 years of age . John Denver summed it up in a post earlier . Lets not knock any of the young players , the senior pros have to take the lead and lead by example.

He is still learning his trade and takes good advice from Clough , Morgan and most of all his parents.

The bastard! I hope we lose in the play offs now so he gets sacked. I bet he did it on purpose n'all, the gummy twat!

young players usually do go through periods where they seem to go backwoods its all part of the learning curve
i was at the county game and agree with your comments re- reed in this match... I had noticed a drop off in is standards before then but it is not surprising as he is still only 17 and has had a very hard season for one so young, thats why cloughy has not used him much recently today he looked tired and i will be very surprised if he gets a place in the match 18 over the play off matches.Ime sure he will come back next season firing on all cylinders but you do some times get one season wonders who dont make the necessary progress and dont make it (trenton wiggan amongst one or two others come to mind) reedy i think is not one of those he has great
enthusiasm and will come through. This is where you have to trust the manager(coach) .Clough has a good
record with introducing young players to 1st team football but patience is required and a lot of football fans
dont understand this.

he is not 18 till july!!!

He's been in and out of the squad to much, he was playing his best football when he had a run of games in the first team. Today all of our midfielders were off the boil and Reedy was messed around too much, he even ended up on the wing at one point.

It's equally possible he has hit the wall this season or is just going through what the rest of the known world calls bad form.

Davepinder probably knows the real reason. Or his mate, or mates mate.......

Come on everybody, let's actually try and care for and nuture our young players. If they don't make it, they don't make it, it's a very unforgiving career after all. Give them time, space and encouragement to try and do things and be brave enough to try them again when they don't come off.

Either that, or a squad full of Coutts's.

Is he 18 yet? Give the lad a break.

He was poor yesterday. Didn't close down fast enough. Having said that none of the team pressed other than Doyle.

Reed will be a better player the higher up he gets. More time on the ball in Championship

Matt , lets hope then , he is playing there with us , and not someone else.

Lou Reed's been shocking the last three times i've seen him, Notts County, Oldham and yesterday.

I do wonder whether he's someone who will thrive from us actually having a decent pitch to play on next season, the three aforementioned surfaces were all very poor for a footballing centre midfielder.

It must also be hard for Reedy being just on the cusp of the first team because I don't think until the last 3 or 4 matches he's been involved with the under 21's either. Injured players aside he must get less game time than most, so he's hardly going to be up to speed for a local derby with little space in a game where both teams have three in midfield.

That said, I think we need to let him sit the playoffs out, have a full preseason to get up to speed and come back stronger next season, whichever division we're in.

thats why its the perceived wisdom , where possible to bring young lads in on a drip feed , couple of games then rest for a few ,
why dont people see that we arent the only club bringing young lads through and performances will fluctuate
swindon were on absolute fire when they beat us 5-2 , their kids were all at their peak , fresh in the side and rampant , then they finished worse than we did , the kids have become a bit of a spent force
prestons young players looked awful at colchester , out of their depth, I had to watch it here in spain , and if they play like that we should not worry at all

He's not happy I've said it already clearly showed today IMO.

Louis Reed's state of happiness or otherwise registers at about zero on the list of things that trouble me. Funnily enough, I wasn't happy with his performance. He was utterly dreadful. He couldn't have complained if he had been taken off at half-time (again).

As for whether he'll be able to play on Thursday; why on earth would you want him to?

That hack on him yesterday was a disgrace, kicked the lad up in the air. I was shouting for a straight red, was intentional and premeditated.

Must admit really been disappointed with Reed the last 2 or 3 times I have seen him. I like the lad and still think he will make a living at a reasonable level (not sure I quite see this superstar in the making some do - he is a clever footballer who finds space and when playing well has a good range of passes but cannot tackle, is small and not a goal threat. With his size he has too be exceptional at at least one thing but whilst got a few qualities not sure he has anything that makes you thing 'wow' ). However young or not that does not excuse him from criticism. He was dreadful at Oldham and yesterday just as bad. The lad who came on Calvert Lewin looked ever worse. Harsh I know (their young kids, give them a chance etc but Reed was praised in games he did well earlier in the season so has to take the rough with the smooth) but both have to do much better if they are going to be anywhere near first team even at this level.

Murphy and basham were poor at first at the Lane and took a lot of stick. Coutts is going through the same period. It sometimes takes players a while to settle in and feel at ease ,especially younger ones . I used to be nervous playing in front of 30 imagine the pressure of 26000 on your back.

Definitely struggling at the mo - no mistake. V poor yesterday [poorest I've seen him]. Just have to hope they give him the time he needs to develop properly and that one or two of the senior guys here continue to take him under their wing. He's very close to Doyle which is no bad thing.

Dear oh dear....

We have a young lad here and were criticising him already, we should know better than that because we have seen it before..

All our young players have had a wobble at one time or another, give him a break..

Ask yourself, what pressure did you feel under at 17 ?..

Then ask yourself if 20-000 people were stood behind you at work as you tried to.learn the ropes... grow up... and fucking lay off him...

I'm mainly hoping the plastic leg cast he was wearing tonight is more of a precaution.

Class is Reedy, time will show that.

At the start of the season he looked a potential world-beater - great touch, vision and passing range, along with an impressive work ethic. His form has dropped off, temporarily; his "class", I'm confident, will prove permanent.
