Yes he had a good season last year for the 23s. Played well with Slater, plenty of bite, and was usually MOTM The teams performance usually dipped when he and Brooks were missing.

It will be make or break for Reed and I can't decide how I think he'll get on. He'll fit in well with Caldwell's preferred style of play but may struggle in such a physical league. I don't know if Chessie have such a player but I'd imagine the best chance of him flourishing would be to put him with a midfield enforcer, who do a lot of the dirty work and allow Reed to get on the ball.

Good point. Nigel Chough played him alongside that well known enforcer Stefan Scougall in the televised match against Brizzle 3 years ago.

With a team full of players of Louis Reed's quality the future would be bleak. He's too small, too weak, too slow. He doesn't score; he doesn't create; he doesn't carry the ball; he can't go past an opponent. He has, of course, a great range of passing. On his most recent appearances (ignominiously subbed at half-time twice, remember) he misplaced them long, short and everything in between.

You might be prepared to sacrifice points and relegation on the altar of youth. I'm singing different hymns. Quality Counts, and it knows no age.

I'm relatively new to this forum but have been following it for a couple of years and have been surprised and disappointed by some of your comments but I have to say I'm with you 100 per cent on this one.

Very good move for Reed, he's a tidy player and the experience in L2 for Chesterfield. For my mind they have made some very good signings and pushed the boat out to make themselves one of the favourites for promotion, much in a way that we did last year, he's their 10th signing.

All seems a bit odd as a few months back they didn't have a pot to piss in.

Hadn't realised reed was our youngest ever player and had played 59 times for us. That's not too bad for a 19 year old to be fair.

Let's see how he does for chezzy. Think his ability on the ball will make him stand out next year.

Reed played 40 odd games for us in league 1 aged 17/18 and looked a bit hot and cold, which is hardly surprising. Like many, he didn't get a look in last year despite having done nothing wrong. At the ripe old age of 19, I'd guess he can make a good career if he keeps working really hard as he showed a good work rate and some decent ability.

For all those, stating that he's too small, he's around the same height as Fleck but 6 years younger. The next 2 years will probably define what level he'll end up at

My point is that the vast majority of promising youngsters don't amount to what their potential promises.

Doubt that, he's a tidy player and i really hope he kicks on with it. He can pass a ball, does a great marking job and positionally he's got a good brain.

Problem is that he is very small, so needs to play alongside a bigger player in the middle and his shooting is (was) atrocious.

I recently posted about the two players involved in our second goal against Hull in the semi final. Murphy and Scougall. One in the Premier league the other about to start the new season in a Scottish backwater.

Similarly, the semi final the following season against Spurs. Che Adams scores twice and takes all the headlines. Louis Reed in the final moments has the opportunity of eclipsing this but.....it ends up in the kop.

If things had worked out differently it may have been Reed in the Championship.

He's also an England International at three age levels.

If Clough had stayed at our club the lad would have well over 100 first team games under his belt.

We have wasted time for him these past 2 seasons but time is still on his side.

He's twenty this month and a quality footballer who knows where his team mates are, can play a ball into a colleague's stride at the right pace. He plays with his head up and he is strong these days with bite in his tackles. He also looks to be a calm, composed player.

If we don't make anything of him it will be our loss.

I'll follow his development and watch him play at Chesterfield.
