Player Suggestion Louie Barry

Because we would benefit whether we got promoted or not as he'd be our player. Let's say we get him on loan and he makes a great impact like MGW and McAtee but we don't get promoted. Villa might then sell him for £10-£15mil to another top flight club.
They would have a hard time doing that if we exercised our option to buy.

It shows a pack of ambition if it's not a loan to buy because of he does well and we go up Villa will ask for nearer twenty million like they did with Archer. Maybe Villa don't want an option to buy but an obligation to buy. Either way it could be another MGW situation if we don't go up.
Does it show a lack of ambition?
What if it was an obligation to buy, with the previously suggested sell on clauses in place?

Without knowing the details it's impossible to say.

He's just come back from an ACL injury, I suppose we're against having him on a long term contract until he can prove that he's got over it.

As for this rumoured 50% sell on that Villa supposedly want, I'm not too bothered about it as it will only really be effective if there is quite a large profit (£15m+) made on Barry.
I think in the end it wasn't an acl injury just cartilage damage

That depends on the terms of the condition to buy. We loaned Choudhury with a loan to buy deal. Why isn't he here? Loan to buy deals aren't black and white.

Facts, facts, facts 🙄

Great use of one of the loan spots and is effectively this seasons JRS
I think is probably about right in terms of he’s going to be someone who some fans will like but who the team don’t rely on. He’ll be both exciting and have huge areas in his game that he has to improve on.
In terms of ability levels and likely output, I’m not convinced he’s at JRS’s standard.

I would look to cool expectations on this lad though. While it's possible I don't think there should be any assumption that he's going to come in and rip the league apart.
Everything I'm reading on him would strongly suggest he's a typical young, talented winger. When he's on it, he's unplayable, but he is very inconsistent and can struggle to impose himself or turn it around if their team isn't on top in games.

I think it's a great signing, but his injury record, and the fact he's unproven at this level, makes me considerably less concerned about it not having a obligation to buy.

Agreed, although he'll only have 2 years left on his contract at the end of the season, so if there's a deal to be done it shouldn't be too excessive.
I think a perm deal right now would be a significant risk on the back of his injury and if Villa were wanting things like sell-ons and a obligation to buy I can see why we'd step back.
Villa are one of those clubs that always tie down their kids with short contracts before sending them out on loan

Can someone explain to me why everyone is obsessed with Barry?

Smashed it for six months at Stockport but beyond that I can’t see a reason for all the hype?

Starting to feel like the Cannon transfer.

I think he will be very good, I appreciate Stockport is a level below us but he looked a level above them, its a small gamble but one worth taking

What are the similarities with him and Cannon?

I can think of very few, if any, loans where we went on to buy them that season or at the end of a season. Kabba and Webber are the only ones that immediately spring to mind.
Ollie Norwood - although my understanding is that was more us working a way around the transfer window than not wanting to buy him straight away

Young, English, from a club in the midlands, scored goals at a lower level, loads of hype.

Not sure why the clamour for him tbh.
...white...male 😅

We've always taken chances. We have to. We can't afford ready made players. We either gamble on their fitness or their ceiling.
You can buy from giant clubs and end up with a Gribic, just like you can get a free from Coventry and end up with a Fleck. There's no magic formula. We just have to put trust in our scouting system.

i know little about him but i think he came through barcelonas la masia. & rarely do poor players come out of that academy. so its an educated punt. but knowing our luck we will end up with the only dud

Yeah I’ve read that as well. If true, I don’t understand why because didn’t Hull before the embargo agree a loan deal with a view to buy? What’s changed?
Not sure if this was the Villa side that change the deal. They were desperate for a PSR contribution and as soon as it went past the deadline there was no point in bringing in a fee.

Other than 'loads of hype' you've not really said anything to make this a red flag. It's a loan with no obligations, sooooo, the perfect way to try a player.

Not sure whare the down side is, unless of course folk only see, big money, permanent signings as 'good and we have VERY good evidence to suggest paying big, on punt players, comes with some BIG downsides.

He’s got a much better eye for goal than JRS.

Very likely, surely there is no chance someone would be back in contention within 6 months after an ACL?
Definitely knee cartilage not ligament
