Looking at the positives

We get 70 million in parachute payments next year that we may actually be able to spend rather than chuck into already agreed wages

and we didnt buy anybody for £20million and think where has it all gone ? UTB, stuff Palace.

We have a stronger defence than the one we came down with last time, players ARE coming in, we are in the premier league, the players have a fantastic attitude, Hecky works miracles, we have great fans and BL, palace are beatable.

when has Hecky worked miracles?

Keep hearing this as though he did a Bassett or a Wilder gaining promotion as an underdog with low cost players.
Last season we had one of the bigger budgets, one of the most expensive squads, kept our best players and were pre season favourites to finish top 3.

Fair enough, there were bad distractions and Hecky held it together doing a very good job….but nothing exceptional was achieved.

I’d say the positives are
We have a pragmatic manager who copes really well in adversity….doesn’t panic and doesn’t look depressed.
Agree, the defence looks strong….last season we parked the bus several times and never looked like conceding
Can imagine plenty of games like Spurs in the cup last season, basically the opposition have loads of attacks but never look like scoring.
Really don’t think we’ll concede many this season….the issue is creating chances…..we need some big signings if we want to score.
I’m confident we’ll make several high quality signings this month.

Also agree…..the Bramall Lane roar can really inspire our players when we’re the underdogs and been written off by the media.

The positive for me on Saturday is my expectation is low….so I won’t be disappointed or angry if we lose….not feeling any pressure or nerves.
I’m expecting a tight game, 1 or 2-0 to Palace.

It’s not the same level of achievement, for sure, but I think he doesn’t get anywhere near as much credit as he’s due, from some fans and more significantly the wider media.

A manager with much more pedigree came in to manage us and guided us to the lofty heights of 17th. We managed to get promoted with our highest ever points total in the second tier despite contending with a seemingly endless stream of injury crises and off the field shenanigans, both with players and at board level.

A lot of those ‘low cost players’ that Wilder got us promoted with were still core members of the squad last season, and will be next season too.

In terms of budgets:
Whilst our wage bill was certainly one of the higher ones in the division, you have to remember that our highest paid player is, by all accounts, Rhian Brewster -who is almost perpetually injured. From what I could find, West Brom, Burnley, Watford and Norwich all had higher budgets than us- but I can’t attest to how accurate that is.

Ignoring loan fees, we’ve only bought two players in on actual paid transfers since Heckingbottom’s been in charge, Ahmedhodzic and Davies. We spent ~10% of the amount of money that Burnley spent on transfers last season. They got a lot of money from player sales, sure, but our budget can’t have been that big of we ended up under a transfer embargo due to unpaid fees.

I’m not massively confident going into this season, but I will say that I’d rather be going into it with Heckingbottom at the helm than any other manager out there.

Doubt it with current owner.

Pretty sure the line would be "we need to cut our cloth because of reduced money coming in so mainly look at loan market"

We have a solid defence Which will save us games
Our midfield will improve as the season progresses & the new players get to grips with our systems
We will draught in some better strikers , but our young upcoming players will be given the chance to develop ‘ on-the job’
There will be at least 3 teams worse than us over the full season.

The Blades fans at BDBL will voice their support

Positives are the way promotion was achieved, with attacking football and flair from certain quarters, and Berge for ten minutes every fifth match.
The manager is calm, not as egotistical as his predecessor, or Colin W.
We have Anel.
It's always great to begin a new season. Who knows what will happen?

Lets hope city thrash Burnley tonight to begin with
