He's played a load of games because the alternative was MH.
You've really got it in for George haven't yer.
I've said it more than once on here and I'll say it again he's improved imencely last season he was thrown in too early as as kid but went out on loan and come back improved.
No need for a keeper but Wilder will probably bring in the Northampton lad he knows him but he will address more urgent things like the CB and striker situation.

Heard last week we are low bowling long so we get compo to sign smith

I'd be quite glad if we were doing that... but I wouldn't want to spend the compo on a keeper.

Long's OK - and it's took him a lot of games to become OK, but he's part of the culture of failure and he's one of a number of players who don't seem to grasp what the standards and expectations should be at this club.

We should be able to get a better keeper than him and have money left over to spend elsewhere.

Don't rate George. Simple as that. Sorry you disagree.

Go on then, who told you this?

My mates wife's brothers dog goes on walks near Shirecliffe. He told me we were after Tafazolli.

True story.
Ha ha barney the class clown. I was just repeating what I had been told. I can't possibly understand your interest in who is signing could be fookin Messi and Ronaldo and tha would still be undecided to renew

Hey, I'm not the best business man in the world by any means, but experience has taught me that negotiation is about getting the best deal whilst maintaining the relationship. If George can squeeze a few extra quid/months/bonuses out of the deal by taking his time to agree the best deal without burning his bridges, then I for one would say well done George. I don't subscribe to the 'If he dunt wanna play for nowt then f**k him off' crowd.
ALL players are entitled to get the best deal they can.....apart from Hammond.

Smith's "reflexes are second to none... he's also a terrific sweeper keeper, ... is very reliable with his feet ... and communicat[es] superbly"...

Best not fanny about too much longer, George...

It depends who Wilder thinks will work best with the new 2no centre backs . I get the impression he can take or leave Long and not that fussed if he stays or goes .

Perhaps it's the right time for a clean sweep even at the goalkeeper position . May be beneficial to both Long and the club if he moves on . New broom , new start and all that .

Nowt against the young fella , but he is part of the past failure and that culture needs removing with new blood and players who ain't scarred from previous seasons and failed campaigns .

Battle fatigue and weariness does come into it mentally and physically . Flynn syndrome IMO and Long may have that .

Young George always played best when he had some solid players in front of him, who could give him a bit of back up when things got tough.

I think CW will have a couple of big Central Defenders in front of him for next season, and the best of George may be yet to come.

Its a confidence thing.

Pound to a penny they won't be any more money on the table for Long . It won't be a situation of take it or leave it , it will be more diplomatic of that's the figure we value at , added bonus for promotion . Think it over , have a chat with your parents and Imre the agent.

Long may well be a fool to turn it down , but dies the club really want him . It appears Long isn't getting a bollocking or a lovein arm around him .

Not fussed if Long stays or goes, the contract offer will be better than his last contract otherwise we get no compensation should he choose to move elsewhere. Up to you George. If he doesn't make is mind up soon time to fuck him off and bring in another keeper, it shouldn't be too hard to bring in someone as good or even better than Long who is at best only adequate.

A bit taken aback by how indifferent Wilder's been towards Long tbh. About as far from being desperate to keep hold of a "prized asset" as can be. Clearly sending a message out.

Wilder is tough.

The feeling I get is that Wilder knows a keeper out there that's available who he rates higher than Long and would be cheaper than Long given we'll get compo for him if he goes. I think Long is only being given a chance to decide his future because he's a blade/came through the academy.

Could be wrong though :)

I think you're wrong. The only reason he's being given a chance is cos we'd not get any compo if we didn't.

Smith - more proactive in coming off his line quickly to narrow the angles?

Looked good, the amount of shots he had to save in that 2015/16 season was phenomenal. Whoever the manager was he should have put a stronger defence in front of him......... just a minute....

...man in pub ee say Long won't be taking up the contract on offer...we shall see...

The one slight concern is crosses, of which there don't seem to be any examples on that reel (& there have been one or two bloopers exposed on highlight vids of Northampton games). But it can't be that big a gap in his armour, I suppose, if he made the Divisional team of the year.

From the interview it sounded like the stumbling blocks were money and being guaranteed first choice.

I like Long and I want him to stay, not nearly close to his prime yet and he's only going to improve but I love Wilder's stance.

Absolutely no one is going to be taking the piss anymore.

Maybe Wilder knows that Adam Smith has a low release clause?

So long, Long.

There can be no guaranteed starters for this team anymore.

No 'favourites' and no one getting in the team on reputation ahead of ability and effort.

He's made some improvement this season but his progress is somewhat over played.

He's very replaceable, and sounds like Wilder is aware of this and is making him aware of this too.

Long may it continue.
