If NC decides not to get anyone in today then I think that can be viewed as a good thing as it will mean;

A - Harris and Hill are close to full fitness

B - Khan and Diamio(?) may feature more, giving an indication as to whether they have big roles to play next season

I'm just glad that there's not a demand/clamour/panic for the club to sign someone, it usually ends up in disappointment and a whole load of dummies being discarded.

I was just about to ask if the loan window shut today. I couldn't believe how quiet it was with regards for demands for players. A good sign of how far we have come!!

Yeah I to do some double checking, noticed a few loans going through this morning like.

Think we're in a really good position with everything - especially if Hill and Harris are close to fitness. No pressure to bring anyone in. The pressure to get into the play-offs is self applied and not a demand from the board or fans (if that makes sense), it'd be a bonus. So I reckon on the balance I'd be happy to stick the squad we have, introduce Khan and Diamio (really must look up the correct spelling) and carry on as we are - not done us much harm in the last few months has it.

HeCanDoMagic, as you appear clued up about incoming and outgoing players, what's the position with Diego? Is he still on loan at Chezzie? Heard a lot about this kid but still patiently waiting to see him play.

I don't really follow the youth team or U21's much, I look out for the results and watch the highlights if there are any on Bladesplayer. What position do Khan and Dimaio play?

I would like to see him bring a striker in but its hard at this time of the year, what team is willing to let go of a goalscorer at the end of March? Stick with what we have got for me and extend Freeman to the end of the season.

It's Dimaio - he's a central defensive midfielder. Very comfortable on the ball with a decent range of distribution.

Khan is an attacking midfielder whose natural position is either behind the front man or in an attacking wide right role. He's scored a few free kicks this season for the U18s and U21s too.

I will be disappointed if we don't get in a striker before the deadline but I guess it won't be a disaster if we don't.
I suspect NC is looking more seriously at Centre Back given the current plight as he sees both the league and cup games being predicated on keeping clean sheets on the basis that we have the ability to counter swiftly and nick a goal or two.
We are not set up this season to go balls out to break down a stubborn, park the bus team who plays on the counter. We are that team.

Cloughie has achieved his key objective already - i.e. don't go down this season.
I guess we can think of anything else as a bonus but given what the lads have done since the beginning of February then all our expectations have been raised, slightly.

What's great though is that we can all speculate the best (as opposed to contemplating the worst - which is our norm) and enjoy the ride. If we don't get any further in the cup we have still done brilliantly and this is definitely the best ever cup run in my lifetime (given we started in the first round proper we have already won as many games as teams in the top two devisions would have needed to win it outright) If we miss out on the play offs, I believe it wont be by much and as we weren't expecting to get anywhere near it. At least it keeps up the interest for the run in and should deliver a platform for NC to do his stuff next season.

Nah, fuck it - who am I kidding - were all expecting to win all three trips to Wembley aren't we? :D

DIego was never on loan at Chezzie was he? The kid got injured, has played in the youth team quite a bit last few weeks and for Italy u19s. I've never seen the lad play, but I don't think he is as good as some make out considering other kdis are getting a chance ahead of him. Hopefully I'm wrong, but let's wait and see.

Im hardly one of those ITKers, just hear very small snippets.

Diego hasn't and wont be allowed out on loan. Rumours did the round about Chesterfield enquiring but NC wants to keep a close eye on his rehab and progress.

Big injury he had and time is the key, reckon next season will be his time, with a full pre-season behind him.

Although I think the question of the Blades in Europe is a bit far fetched at the moment (we've still to play Hull which no one should regard as easy), it would certainly be fascinating to see how we coped with teams from the continent. Long way to go before we're thinking about trips to Belgium, Gdansk, or wherever.......but think on, if Swansea can do it?

I'm expecting four, and then winning the Charity Shield. Which will show the signs the blades are back, and our dominance of Europe will have everybody shaking in their boots. Liverpool will lose the title of most successful English club and Bramall Lane will be developed into a 70,000 mega stadium.

But I may be a little too optimistic.

I hope not! boo radley will implode about ticket allocations and the ticket office telephone number ;)

But after all that can you honestly say that you will be truly happy? Really?

I count Charity Shield as a curtain raiser for next season
Not sure we will get too many against Chelsea that day.

I'll defer to your knowledge blader, I saw it mentioned somewhere a while back and assumed, as I hadn't heard about him, that he'd been loaned out.

Just read HeCanDoMagic's post, so that appears to answer that particular question.

And kozluk, optimistic? Mate, there's a very fine line between optimism and delusion, but I suspect your tongue is firmly planted in your cheek

I was hoping there was a deadly-pacy Fenerbahce striker who had dreamed of playing in at Wembley in the FA cup so was released to us just in time to realise his dream (i.e. today). Any thoughts Kazarre?

The reasons other academy players are getting a look in before Diego is because Diego has had 12 months+ out with a career threatening injury, and the likes of Khan and Diamioa (sorry!) have been playing exceptionally well (who have benefitted from not being injured haha).

I don't profess to have seen alot of Diego, but given the lengths a nation like Italy went to to ensure he played for them must give an indication of his potential.

Ye, well I can only speculate, never seen the lad play other than those several minutes he got a while back.

Sounds like the lad has a lot of potential, though it does appear he is a long way off first team action yet. Maybe with a full pre-season he might prove his worth. Think too much focus is on this kid though, when we clearly have other talented youngsters waiting in the wings to be given a chance. I love seeing any young Blade in the first team. Clough has a great track record of bringing them through too. If they are good enough, they'll be given a chance that's for sure.

I don't think any focus been on Diego has hindered anyone else coming through.

The injury to Diego happened at a massively unfortunate stage of his development. That's it. He needs time to get back to full speed. Nothing should be read into the lack of appearances and it certainly doesn't indicate a lack of talent.

Id love a striker on loan, surely theres a Prem striker whos not cup tied whod come to us for a shot at Wembley. Porter cant be the only option

Plan A doesnt involve a striker. Plan B involves Porter for Wembley as the only other experienced striker is cup-tied.

It's hard to believe it's happening. Why Miller was loaned out I will never know.

Our fans have such great respect and appreciation of NC that they are not kicking off.

Personally I'm sick of attending and then trudging away from Wembley without a striker in the squad.

Theres time yet but I'm not optimistic. Even Taylor would have been an asset.

Complete tosser but surly better than porter and hes got a beard

I've not moaned about ticket allocations I did moan about people on here not being willing to help others out or moaning about people who do. I do moan about the phone number on behalf of others because like you I have my own private line that gets me straight through to a real person. No 'let me hold you', for me or thee.
When we get to Europe I will expect you to sort out the accommodation due to the contacts you have with various european country s intelligence agencies:D.

I just knew you'd bite! ;)

It's not the intelligence agencies that I have contacts for :D

He's just let McGinty go out on loan aswell... So if he doesn't bring any defenders in now, Hill, Harris, or Kennedy must nearly be fit?

Needs to be in the "twat" thread, I've only got 25 years left
