Some encouraging stuff in there, especially some of the youngsters like Tyler Smith. Does seem we’ve got a few out at teams who are struggling; thats not necessarily a bad thing IMO; the young uns will learn more about themselves in the tough times than if they just go there and have a nice, comfortable 6-12 months. Got to take some of the fan perspectives into- er, perspective as well; they need to remember that we havent sent them there because they are the finished article; they're there to iron out mistakes and bad habits and hopefully pick up some good ones. Thats something some of our own fans should remember sometimes with the young lads we loan in.

Thanks Roy

Must be tough for these kids being thrown into physical football and potentially unhealthy team environments. They’ll learn loads even if the performance isn’t stellar.

Love the updates. Especially the youngsters....
Great reports from Smith and Semple. They are playing full games every week and you can see they are getting better and better.
Looking at Semple he has already played 10 full 90 minute first team games. Smith played 7 full games also already.

Slater, Gilmour and Graham working hard to establish themselves as starters each week but that will come of that I have no doubt.

All these lads are 19 or younger.

Great stuff.

Criticism is something they will need to get used to ..... all part of learning.

Appreciate your time spent on this Roy cheers, Hennegan sounds a bit dodgy considering we soent around 400,000? Cannot wait for our "experts" view (you know who) regarding Ched, dummies being spit out across the region.

Out of all the youngsters I thought Slater would make the transition most easily, just goes to show you can't base opinions on one game.

Sounds like it could be a great move for Ched to regain confidence, fitness and form. I guess it depends what happens in the next day or so as to whether he comes back in January. UTB

I turned down a move to Chelsea in pre-season due to them having 472 players out on loan.

Given it sometimes takes several hours for the usual post match stuff I can see your logic. You'd be just about ready to post the 'latest' comments you'd got round to finding:

"Now the wheel has been invented, Chleasea will be wanting Ron Harris back"

"That Osgood has been great for us at Aldershot and I see nothing to stop us flying up the leagues"

"Peter Bonetti will be a world cup winner one day, you mark my words"

I thiink we can put Thomas and Henghan into the category of punts that did not come off - expect them off our books by the end of the season if not before.

I expect Carruthers and Holmes will also move on.

Ched I still think Wilder harbours ambitions of him having a final go at United - I dont see it. theres a huge jump up from League One mid table to upper end of Champ (what we are aiming for). He might be brought back in January as a 'run around like a mad man' for last 10 minutes option if we fail to get strikers over the board. I personally think the boat has sailed.

The kids will get great experience from the above. Like others Slater is the one that seemed a bit ahead of the rest but you just dont know....if one of them comes back and can contend in the squad next year then that is a bonus. The problem is with moving up in quality levels and what we look for; they have to be outstanding to force their way in now. As Ballsup has alluded to; our acdemy is great and will keep producing football league players but for us to get a Walker or Maguire now is going to be tough - important there is that pathway though. You would expect a player woould have to go on loan a la Walker, Calvert Lewin and really stand out to be considered back here now due to the prgress we have made.

Top man Roy . I've been keeping tabs on Semple whilst he's out on loan and it's a work of art finding comments about him on the ' doonhamers ' site/s so I fully appreciate the time and effort that gos into what you do here time and time again .

I genuinely can’t see any reason that Smith can not be in and around the first team next season and Semple May be replacing Wright and Heneghan next season.
Not to play every week of course but be in that squad.
Still think Graham has a lot of football knowledge to gain as “ ihadadream’ always says, although physically he is a beast.

I am not sure on Slater. He needs as many competitive games as possible at Carlisle. Seems to be very mixed reviews. Not a regular yet but as I said I think that will happen. Very very early days.

Gilmour not playing much at all which is a worry......

It’s all about opinions though. CWs opinion. If he does not think they are good enough then they will move on with a tidy sell on clause for future transfers.

QotS have extensive highlights, often 10-15', on a youtube channel which you can pick up odds and ends from. Callum won a strong header leading up to a break and a goal in one game, not so strong in a tackle when the opposition scored a couple of games ago.

I think he's got family in Scotland, which might, in part, explain the move.

I'm becoming a fan of Stephen Dobbie.

Fine update on our 19 year olds and the fans views, particularly during the game, are part of their learning. Playing competitive games where every result is important, is one of the big differences to our Academy or under 23 environment. I also know that getting used to the dressing room is important. Time on the ball is a lot less and learning to take care of themselves are all part of the game.
It does concern where the lads are not considered good enough to start as the aim of loans is to get game time. Tyler Smith and Callum Semple will come back to us as more mature and hardened players but I'm not sure what is the benefit of being on the bench.
Its also good that United keep an eye on the lads and have them in to monitor their fitness every week and they watch them in games as well.
It will be interesting to see what happens at the end of the loan periods. If all goes to plan we will at least get a few pounds for them or even get them taken into the 1st team squad, Now that would be great.
Do think the seniors on loan is a 'shop window' thing with moving them on more of the aim.

I have noticed Dobbie banging them in. Seems an absolute god in them parts.

QOTS is a perfect club to be at for Semple.

Good standard and full games each week plus as much Scottish abuse aimed at players as you could ever wish to get. Especially aimed at a young English centre half.......

I think Barrow is exactly the same for Smith. Full games every week. Good standard and scoring goals..... and dogs abuse in the lower leagues.

Both to come back in January to see what happens next.

Truly excellent, painstaking and diligent work Roy. I'm sure you know how valued your efforts are but I'll say it one more time.
You now have legendary status.
X

Semple I am interested to hear more about. In the 2016/2017 pre-season vs. Hallam he looked a good defender and was surprised we couldn't find him an improved level of football above QoS but perhaps the grit & harsh conditions up there will add the 'Morgs' side to his game (if it was lacking) as part of his development.
