I really don't see the point in further persuing Leonard when we have Whiteman impressing.

It could easily be a blessing that we didn't sign another midfielder permanently.

But ideally what we would've done is sign Leonard and have Whiteman instead of Lundstram. Leonard the ball winner, Whiteman the ball player. But as it is we'll have two ball players and no ball winner (although Whiteman can do a bit of everything). So we've got that wrong IMO. Probably for the sake of about 150k too. Thing is, we're probably going to try and sign Leonard anyway. So it might still be difficult for Whiteman to get a look in.

Good to see George back to the form that we all enjoyed earlier in his career. I hope that those who got on George's back and shook his confidence learn their lesson and don't repeat it with any of our 3 current keepers.

Thanks for the progress reports Roy

To be fair if Lundstram hasn't made an impression by the end of the season, he could be moving on.

"loyal but not sentimental" wasn't it?

Like above, Whiteman is the only one who I'm looking forward to returning to our first team.

Good to see George has started well and hope his career can start on an upward curve.

Sadly not surprised about Reed. Feel a bit sorry for him as I think Clough involved him too much too soon. However he looks like a modern product of Academy football to me. Neat and tidy with the odd good bit of vision, but not too much else. His stature means he has little physical presence, particularly as he hasn't much bite in the tackle.

Pleased for George. His problems seemed to stem from a lack of confidence in himself. If he can start to become vocal and bollock his defenders more as he matures he could yet make it.It's up to you lad.

The last time he got vocal (and rightly so) he was bollocked by the team captain who was at fault and Long never seemed to be as confident afterwards but nobody remembers that because he did a cockney walk vs west ham.

Cheers Roy. Glad they're doing well. George is rediscovering some form at last!!. Reed just wouldn't fit in with us at the moment!!. I M O.

Quiet rightly? Guessing you're talking about when Doyle did it when he was 20 in front of the lop. Robson was so shocked he ran back from half way line to put his arm round him and have a chat. Worked out well then dear lord

Never seen Whiteman play but based on the comments from Mansfield last season and these looks like the boy will be good enough for out first team squad either in January or next season. Would be really nice if we could actually manage to get another academy player into the team. So far we have Brooks but all the others have either been sold or are apparently not going to be good enough. If Whiteman is good enough then Leonard may be surplus to requirements. CW/AK call at some point. Shame we haven't got any CHs or strikers coming through.

When Whiteman was in the first team here, wasn't Adkins raving about all the youngsters, Whiteman was then motm v Oldham only for the numpty to then drop him for the next match.

As for Reed I'm sure he'll be another Leon Brittain for someone, he'll be a class act in the right team but he'll not be a player that you can drop into any starting XI it'll have to be the right style of play with the right players around him and probably higher up the chain than fourth division (where hedl just get hacked all over the place)

Whiteman is in absolutely the right place to play regular (40+ games) this season. Will do him the world of good and hopefully pave the way to him coming back ready to compete for a first team place here.

Hope we did insert a recall clause though incase we get an injury In the middle of the park.

It took me a while Roy but I finally got there.......:)

Leon Brittain has stolen a career as a footballer. Does nothing but pass the ball 15 yards sideways to his closest team mate and is paid tens of thousands each week to do so whilst being raved about.

Hate these 'quarterback' type players. Easiest job in football.

Whitemans problem may be that as he keeps proving himself in a division higher we move on a division....lets hope the same happens again this season !

That will serve the cocky little bastard right when we join the breakaway European super league. Those Real Madrid dilettantes haven't got a clue what's coming to them.

Lets hope the next time he proves him self at a higher level its with the blades and we start to see "the kids of tomorrow" as the players of today, would be nice over the next few years to see a few stay and mature at the club, Brooks and Whiteman would be a good start and maybe reed if he can start to show what he can do in chesterfield, we have such a good academy that we should reap the benefits.

Absolutely elgoog, nothing better than seeing the local lads come through and represent the club. One of the reasons we had a good record v the pigs under Bassett was the likes of Bradders, Dane and Wardy died for the cause in the derby games.

Shame we haven't managed to keep more of them over the years but hopefully now we are in a higher division the need to sell will dissipate.

FriethBlade hopefully not selling Brooks this transfer window is a kick on to keeping a few and watching them become first team blades :)

That was the highlight of the window for me not selling Brooks, Fleck, JOC et al

If you've not seen Whiteman play I'll give you my impressions.

He's got a footballer's physique, maybe 5'11" or 6' and good in the air; he can play as defender or more effectively as midfielder. He has a great engine, he loves a tackle and has positional discipline. For me his most impressive attribute is his willingness to look for the forward ball all the time. Plays particularly well in partnerships with other young players he has played with regularly.

Should be in our first team squad IMO and certainly should have gone out on loan earlier than he did last season. Both he and Reed fell out of the upheavel when Wilder was first appointed and both lost out on some personal development in first team playing time last season.

When this lad has played 60 or so first team games he will be full value in our first team squad.

I would also add that he has an eye for goal, not shy of taking a shot

Update from my cousin at Chesterfield.

Reed playing well apart from last game when he was out of sorts. He is playing in an attacking midfield role and showing a big appetite for work and getting tackles in. Always picked as starter and never substituted.

There is more optimism in the club after a good end to the Transfer Window and results should pick up.

Big point I overlooked, thanks Grappler. How important is that for any team, a scoring midfielder who can tackle and get up and down all game.

Not seen the lad play for a while, but everytime I have, he seems to have everything needed to be an outstanding player. An understudy to Coutts, Fleck and Duffy, for now, but with game time he will come back at the end of the season an even more rounded player. I assume CW and AK see him moving back to BDTBL to take up a squad position on the bench, ready to come on when needed.
