Should United make a cheeky bid for Aruna Dindane. He needs games before the World Cup. Portsmouth won't play him. Lens don't want him. We desperately need a striker. Everyone's a winner!

Arena Dindane is unlikely to ever play for Portsmouth again after manager Avram Grant explained that should the Ivory Coast international appear once more for the club they would be liable for a £4m fee due to a clause in his loan deal.

Out of action: Aruna Dindane will not play for Portsmouth again due to a clause in his loan deal at fratton park. Dindane has scored seven times in 20 matches for Portsmouth during their troubled season, including a hat-trick against Wigan last autumn, but did not feature in the match-day squad for Saturday’s 3-2 defeat of Hull City.

The forward has similarly been left out of Portsmouth’s squad to face Chelsea tonight and will not be considered for any future games.

The clause in Dindane’s loan deal stipulates that should he play a designated number of games for Portsmouth the club would have to make his move permanent and pay a £4m transfer fee.

“Arena didn’t play because there is a clause in the contract,” said Grant. “I don’t know how many games it is, but if he plays one more game, we have to pay around £4m to his team. “At the moment, Portsmouth cannot pay even four [pounds].”

With Dindane hopeful of a World Cup place with Ivory Coast this summer, Grant was hopeful that he would be released from Portsmouth to get matches under his belt between now and the summer.

“The season is finished from the target point of view, so for him, I think it will be better to play for his club. If they will not let him do it, I will be very surprised,” said Grant.

“His agent is trying to deal with our club and their club. But I think we have to do what’s good for the boy now rather than the team.

He would also get immediately injured being a Sheffield United player and if his parent club have any sense they will protect his health by keeping him well away from Bramall Lane.

Sothall, he's rubbish! Paying the over-priced wages of an obviously overrated player is a waste of time. Especially when our playoff hopes are all but gone.

Another mediocre (at best) player is pointless. Do you ever ask yourself why he plays for the Ivory Coast? Its because beyond Drogba and the other lad (Arouna Koné???) they have nobody else! It's the same reason Rob Earnshaw plays for Wales. So his international status proves nothing.

Other strikers Dindane is keeping out of the squad include Doumbia (CSKA Moscow), Cisse (Feyenoord), Sanogo (St Etienne) and your man Arouna Kone (Seville). Clearly you’re right and he only gets in the squad because they have nobody else! Saying we can’t afford his wages is fair enough but to pretend that he’s not good enough for us is frankly ridiculous.

What it boils down to is that some fans can’t wait for the season to end so they can “get rid” of Blackwell. They would rather see United struggle on with Bennett and the Estonian than bring in a quality keeper. They don’t want us to “waste money” on a loan striker and would rather see Quinn or Williamson filling the role. The want us to play the kids and give up on any hope of the playoffs. Thankfully Blackwell and the players aren’t showing the same defeatist attitude and have shown they are going to keep battling until the bitter end (which may even be a HMRC hearing in Early May).

Not true. Providing Taylor or Stewart plays at left back, we have only 4 loan defenders and a spare loan slot available for a forward. Once Morgan returns at Centre back, that frees up another loan slot.

Oh yes, all those well known names

Regardless of what we think about the current Ivorian national team it doesnt make signing him a sensible decision.

I have watched Dindane countless times for Portsmouth this season, including one live game ironically enough and I haven't been the slightest bit impressed by him. He tends to drift in and out of games and adds nothing to a poor PL side. I have spoken to 3 other people (including one who works in the game) who don't rate him either. So I know I'm not alone in thinking it.

Regardless of our opinion of him, he would as we agreed on, be too expensive in terms of wages. Because of that alone we haven't a prayer of signing him long term so its pointless.

Facing facts Sothall, United will struggle whether they sign Aruna Dindane on loan or not and he won't change that. Short-termism is not the answer and we need to be looking at realistic targets that we can assess as potential permanent signings.

To summarise; the quality of the player and his potential cost means he isn't worth consideration IMO

Random suggestion for a new striker on a temporary basis, and I'm only suggesting it because we're fairly desperate - Marcus Bent. He's currently on loan at QPR, and isn't even on NW's bench as they would be over the max number of loanees allowed. Could we make the case to Birmingham that he'd be better off being loaned to us so that at the very least he'd be on the bench and in a position to actually get some first team action?
