Following on from Kyle's quick recovery from '6 week ligament damage', it looks like our Matt and Andrew could be in the same boat;

"We are still waiting to see whether Andrew Davies will be fit. If he is, he could play alongside Morgan and Matt Kilgallon could do a job at left back" says Mr Blackwell.

He suggests that the long term injuries aren't ready yet but with Naysmith playing another 60 last night and Williamson starring in a full game, it wouldn't surprise me if we have a few back for the weekend and look something like this;

Bunn
Walker, Morgs, Killa, Naysmith
Ward, Williamson, Harper, Treacy
Evans, Camara

Probably far too attacking for Kevin but not looking too bad all of a sudden :)

Things could be starting to look up on the Injury front. Team looks about right, but here are my comments on a few of the injuries..

Bennett - I thought his injury wasn't a break and was also ligament damage, but he could be back sooner couldn't he

Naysmith - played 60 mins last night so maybe a start on Sat is a stretch to far too soon.

Taylor - I think was wanting to be fit for the Newcastle game so he should be

Cresswell - I think he had a check up last week to see if the rib was healing, so could he be back in a week or so?

Monty - Can't even remember what his injury was. Be great to get him back

And finally... Quinny has to start (remember), we have a game to play!:D

Monty - he's injured his knee ligament - I think it was mentioned that a 2 month recovery was expected taking us to the end of Nov (optimist!) / beginning of December time.

From The Stir;

"NICK Montgomery, Ian Bennett and Matthew Kilgallon will undergo late fitness checks when Sheffield United apply the finishing touches to their plans for Saturday's visit of Peterborough.

Although the crucial Championship fixture, which pits Kevin Blackwell's side against the division's bottom club, is expected to come too soon for Montgomery as he battles to overcome injury, coaching staff are hopeful that Kilgallon will be declared available for selection despite damaging an ankle midway through the South Yorkshire derby against Barnsley."

Apparently Bobby Ewing is also having a late fitness test

Billy Graham must be back at the Lane with his healing hands!

Some of the recent injuries:
Killa making a 6 weeks recovery in under 2 weeks, Davies got to go back to Stoke as injury is 5-6 weeks also back in contention under 2 weeks, Walker made a miracle comeback from ligament damage to make the Barnsley game to name but a few.

Somehow I think we are being fed untruths about the severity of some of the injuries just to buy more time until shoes are being waved, why do they keep lying to us??

He's just having a shower and the last 2 years won't have happened.

We get Beattie back, and Blackwell isn't there but we have Robson in charge.

Either that or they aren't nearly back yet and the press are guessing.

I can't see United's medical team going to the press and telling them who is back, its the press speculating. According to the Press Wardy was coming back 3 weeks ago and Willo was fully fit and in contention neither was true.

And therein lies one of my biggest issues with Blackwell. He panics after a match and verbal diarrhoea ensues. It happened after Wembley, and it's happened on a consistent basis since.

I can't begin to think how bad the post match team talks are...

It doesn't change the fact that Walker was out for "at least 6 weeks" with ligament damage, then he played a full 90 minutes the week after.

I don't think Blackwell necessarily and deliberately lies, but he does panic in the same way as a petulant child.

In at least a couple of occasions, Blackwell has said something along the lines of "we'll know more after scans, but initial signs don't look good and it could be X weeks"...

Only to then be quoted as having said "he's out for X weeks" and then accused of lying.

Even if he does preface his injury updates with "we'll know more after scans", why does he then have to put a time scale on the injury? I don't actually remember such a statement with the Walker injury, but he definitely gave the 6 week timescale. What use is that to anyone at all? Apart from to have a whinge and cover up our consistent failings?

The initial post was a bit tongue-in-cheek but yes, that's what people jump on, the post match 'If it's what we think it is......'.

In his defence, I guess it suits us if the opposition presume players are out.

It isn't a lie, is basic customer management.

You give the maximum amount of time that it will take and deliver earlier rather than promise early and deliver late.

You've taken to this knocking lark surprisingly easily Houso.

I'm serious.

If Blackie said he'll be two weeks and then isn't back for 6 you'd be playing merry hell.

Blackie's lying to us to cover up his pathetic lack of depth telling us he'd be back sooner blah blah

Shame he wasn't out he for the previous two games. He was at fault for goals against Newcastle and Cardiff's wonder goal.

So why does he say "at least 6 weeks". If we're going for the maximum, then surely he should be saying "possibly a year"?

I'm a versatile performer. The Greg Halford of the Social Media world.

Did the foam hands get damaged in the wash?

They've certainly shrunk. As has my heart and passion for Sheffield United :cry::cry::cry::cry:

Have a fish.

Now you are being daft, you manage expectations. Saying a year would be pointless.

Its also been stated from the club on several occasions that some players are playing through injuries which would normally have kept them out. Whoever these players are should be commended for thier commitment rather than some of the vitriol spouted by some fans.
Also if a player agrees to play with aid of injections (its reported that Quinny has done this) it would explain why some are 'back' early from injury - but hey that would mean the club aren't lying and we can't have that !

Right, the problem I see it is that when Blackwell comes out and says that we have 13 players out through injury, and that certain players (such as Walker) face 6 weeks out at least, it's impossible to believe what he says all the time when these statements are proven false.

The jokes above about me being a knocker and having extra large foam hands are due to me being an unusually optimistic supporter throughout my 10+ years on SUFC messageboards. When someone like me begins to question the manager so vociferously, there's clearly something wrong. I've excused Blackwell in the past for numerous failings, but I'm bored of the half-truths and bluster that he spouts to deflect criticism from his own mistakes.

Every time I hear complaints about injuries I return to the Newcastle match in which we played (for 45 minutes) a left back on the left wing and moved a left winger to the right wing. We then proceeded for another 15 minutes to play a left back on the right wing. This of course was due to our crippling injury list... no... wait... we had TWO 100% fit right wingers on the bench. Nevermind, Jordan Stewart was at full strength and raring to go. What's that you say Kevin? He was complaining of tonsillitis before the match and that's why we brought him off after 60 minutes? Wat? You can't plead poverty when you're seen to be ignoring a beef fillet in the fridge.

This mini-rant doesn't even touch on our continual inept performances, lack of passion, poor use of transfer market, over-reliance on loan players and lack of a plan b.

I want us to win on Saturday, but if we lose and it adds another nail to Blackwell's coffin, then I'll not lose any sleep like a loss would usually result in.

Wow, if Blackwell has lost the likes of Houso there's clearly no way back...

I agree TH,

HOWEVER..... Why are we playing injured players when we have fit ones on the bench?
