Bear with me! Have had a few. It may be too late at my age to consider this game to be Life Changing but I feel it is. This either defines my life or changes it.

Supported Blades since 1959 and attended since 1961. You have all heard from us old geezers about how it all went wrong and the way we failed, were cheated, were unlucky etc etc. over many years. For me it started in 1961 when someone with a whistle in the crowd in a semi against Burnley lost us that game. It continued with the failure to qualify for Europe in 1975 by one point and then all those play off screw ups and the Evans debacle and on and on and on. There's just too many to mention. I mean the Gerrard/Morgan incident.....FFS, the Warnock lets play our best centre half at left back debacle Aaargh, (But I digress).

Here we are with two games to go. It's in our hands. It's just eminently achievable. Any normal fan of a normal club would just not be concerned. BUT, this is United. IF THERE IS ONE CLUB THAT COULD FUCK THIS UP IT IS SHEFFIELD UNITED.

For my part, if this screws up and we fail that is now what life is about. It's so SUFC. I will leave this earth disappointed. That defines my Sheffield United life. However, If we succeed then this will be a life changing moment. That we can succeed, that I can succeed, and that I can be happy and will not be disappointed by Sheffield United will be a fucking revelation. Please? Whatever happens after this season, I couldn't care a Scooby Doo. Please do it or I will cry.

They've never made you cry before?

You must be nails mate.

This could change our club forever.

We're not just being promoted to the top flight this time, but the big boys' club where players change hands for over £100 million and their annual wages aren't too far off.

It wasn't even like this in 2006. We go up and we have a chance to shake up the system. Show them they don't need to spunk moneh on sexy foreigners to have a good team. We go up and the entire world will know our name. All the promotion and TV moneh could give us a shiny new Kop, with passable bogs!

Yet, we still have the potential to fuck this up. Nothing is set in stone yet. We drew to Ipshit away and they're now playing for pride. Nothing would cheer them up like a victory over a high-flying side.

So my fingers remain tightly crossed until at least Sunday afternoon. At LEAST.

Relegation at Chelsea were my first tears

I was on holiday in Tunisia when we played Chelsea away.
There was no Sky Sports in the hotel, so we took a taxi to drive miles to a bar.
I was initially nervous watching tv with my girlfriend in a small bar.

However the first 45 minutes went fantastically well, we were winning and our rivals were all struggling. At half time I bought some Champaign to celebrate our safety. My girlfriend said ...”but it’s only half time yet”
I explained that it would take a miracle for us to fail now because I think we were winning but all our other rivals were losing or drawing. Everton were losing 2-0 at halftime against Wimbledon and needed to win.
Ipswich we’re playing away to top of the league Alan Shearers Blackburn, it was 0-0 but it was obvious Blackburn would win.

Everton made their comeback winning 3-2, with dodgy Hans Segars strangely diving over the ball.
We conceded to Chelsea in the 93rd minute
They played 6 minutes injury time at Ewood, Blackburn were all over them, but Ipswich held on for the 0-0 draw.

Couldn’t believe we’d been relegated. My girlfriend called me a baby for taking football so seriously.
We had an argument and I stayed in on my own that night, the next day I was fine and continued with our holiday.

I got a bit of sand in my eyes when that twat Givens missed.

1961/62 season. Lost 2-3 to Man U. First time cried over football. Since then - Like with Givens, just been very angry.

I listen to a good few football podcasts and one of them* earlier this week said that every team that’s been in the Prem for more than two years is in the top 37 biggest football clubs in the world. Fucking mental to think that’s where we could be heading (with a lot of luck)

* was one of these:
Guardian football weekly
Football Ramble
5 live football daily
The totally football show

I listen to more but they’re more targeted.

Perhaps Beans Blades Analytics et al can verify?

For a youngster, that's a pretty good summary (Burnley was a 6th round tie, before Silent Blade catches you out). The one bit you have wrong in my view is saying that you won't care about what happens in the future; I can't believe it won't hurt you when we lose our first game in the Premier League......

..... in late February!

It was on March 10th 1962 (three weeks before I was born) not in 1961 as Snowman said

First time I cried was at Fratton Park after we lost 2-0 in the FA Cup 3rd round in 1971. My dad kept telling me that it was better for us to concentrate on promotion rather than stay in the FA Cup. He was right! I was choked when we sold John Tudor to Newcastle a few weeks later. I was choked when we lost 2-1 at home to Hull on a Tuesday night in March 1971 and thought we had blown our chances for promotion. The biggest heartbreak was after George Best scored that goal at Old Trafford on 2nd October 1971 as I bawled my eyes out! My dad kept telling me to calm down and reminded me that we are still at the top of the league!

Seeing my son in tears after that game against Wigan in 2007 was horrible

Your dad was obviously shielding you from reality at Old Trafford. It was one of those moments, having gone the first 10 games unbeaten, that you just knew had changed everything. But those 10 games plus 75 minutes were magic.

I've been watching us 50 years seen 8 relegations 8 play off failures and this will be 8 promotions

Just nice to even things up

But this has to be the best
Our consistency of performance has been outstanding

We've looked the part

We've been entertained

Pundits have sung our praises

Tonight even mark the pitsmoor pig praised us

A new era under a manager we relate to

Can it get even better in the prem

Who knows

Let’s hope so.

Can we get promoted first though?

There are a lot of Leeds and pigs fans wanted us to eat our words.

I've been going to the Lane for 56 years. Most honest team I've seen in all that time. That's the reason I really really hope we can clinch the deal this weekend. The destination is important but it's the journey in getting there that gives me so much enjoyment. Not felt as excited or proud since 1971.

Can it get even better in the prem

Tears of joy maybe, that is what being a Blade is all about.

Swings and ladders, snakes and roundabouts.

I was at Old Trafford in 1971, Stamford Bridge in 1994 and at the Lane in 2019.

:)

Relegation at Chelsea were my first tears

Me too I was 8 years old had to have relegation explained to me by my grandad while watching grandstand, I just couldn’t grasp failure ! All I’d known up until then was top flight football. Since then it’s been a rollercoaster for me, United have just teased around and in the play offs nearly every season since be it in league 1 or the championship.
