Ever since George Long was chucked in very young, we don't seem to have unearthed one that's come in and stayed in. Maybe that's something that's put a black mark against giving academy/younger keepers a go even if they're decent?

The fact that most of the permanent ones we've signed have been right duffers (Cooper the exception until the last few games) suggest that it might be a weak spot for us.

There's an argument that we produced a keeper who was "too good", Ramsdale, who attracted big money bids.

What's our GK situation in the youth set up? Didn't we used to have quite a few?
We were overstocked for a bit but most of them have moved on now (Amissah and Dewhurst). Faxon was next in line but sounds like he’s picked up an injury as he’s been missing from the squad.

I can’t imagine Davies gets another deal at the end of this season so we need to start brining back ups in assuming Grbic will be sold.

U21's are doing something right, unbeaten so far. 8 matches in.

What would people prefer, a U21 side winning games, because stand out players, are playing out of their skin, and showing first team form.

Or, a U21 side stuffed with much-of-a-muchness, destined for lower league careers players, who are well drilled, and organised, and know how to get games over the line at their level.

Among regular U21 watchers, there is a view we lean towards the latter at the moment.

I would prefer our Academy to produce players who are ready to play for the first team rather than winning u21s games and being at the top of the league.

I remember Dave Bassett recalling some seasons when their youth team were winning a lot of games by 3 or 4 goals every week but none of the players were ready for the 1st team and there was a season when the youth team lost matches heavily every week but Brian Gayle was a regular in that season's youth team.
