I should have had an each way bet! Didn't turn out too bad in the end for the Blades from when I first posted this. Interestingly, the team that beat us in the 2012/13 playoff semi final and then got got promoted to the Championship - Yeovil Town - have just been relegated this season to the National League South.

BornOnShorehamStreet - happy birthday for your 73rd which must be coming soon and now twice in the prem!
I can’t remember posts I did yesterday, how did you remember what you posted 10 years ago, that’s a sophisticated alert system!

Is there any way of identifying the 6 happy clappers who went for Premier League, they’re the ones who got it right and deserve some credit for that? No surprise that the majority were on the pessimistic side, plus ca change 🙂

I would like to see us in the top half of the Championship, that is a realistic aim if we can find some stability within the club.

Go back 10 years to the wonder season of 02-03 and you could have asked the same question. I doubt anyone on here would have said we would be in league 1.
Not a bad prediction :)

Thank you.

3 times in the EPL actually. We were founder members in 1993 and Brian Deane scored the first ever goal in the EPL 😉

I think we will at some point appoint former Blade Chris Wilder who will get us into the Premiership. Thanks in part to a global pandemic it will go wrong though. We will return to the promised land thanks to a little known manager called Paul Heckingbottom.
(For anyone not checking the date this was written, they are going to be impressed!)

We've had a lot of threads recently looking back, not surprising really - well anyway now is the time to look forward and predict where you think the Blades will end up in 2023.

Feeling optimistic I'm going for us being crowned Championship champions on our way to the Premier League.

I’m impressed with that, any chance you can look into the future again and predict tonight’s lottery numbers for me? Promise I’ll share.

Maybe younger fans will read this thread and realise how lucky they are to be a Blade right now. God it was bad back then and it got even worse before it got better. Adkins's era almost finished me off, I gave somebody my season ticket for the last 3 home games, it was rancid!

My eldest son was 11 months old when this thread was written, he's witnessed 3 promotions and a couple of seasons in the PL (soon to be a 3rd). Lucky little fucker.

Championship.

It is, despite what some would have ou beleive, our natural level.

Occasional forays in either direction aside...
Post war…probably agree…we’ve really underachieved.

But we’ve spent most of our history in the top flight. All data and stats based on trophies, attendances etc makes us factually 18th or 19th biggest club in England.

As there are 20 clubs in the top flight then based on facts this club should be in the Premier League.

Good point. My eldest had just turned 2yo and my other kid was just a twinkle in our eyes.

This thread was started 7 months before my wedding. We're approaching our Tin/Aluminium anniversary this year.

That final game at home to Scunthorpe is the lowest I’ve ever felt in my 50 years supporting United.

I always had hope but it finally hit me we could become another Notts County or Bradford City and be in league 1 for another 10 or 20 years.

That was my exact thoughts at the end of the Adkins season May 16.

I was certain we were about to drift into obscurity like Bradford have done - and the pigs were looking like promotion to the Prem via Play offs.... it's been an eventful 7 years since!

I was never going to pack in being a Blade but the Adkin’s era was the closest I ever came .

I came away from our first home game under him in a state of shock . Despite some of the appalling attempts at management by some of his predecessors , I couldn’t remember such seeing such a turgid and lacklustre performance against mediocre opposition and thought it couldn’t get worse .

But it did .

If porter scores, we're on the pitch 😭

Would be nice to know who voted for what. I can't remember how the poll was set up and thought I'd done it so you could see that. Foxy ? I guess the question was where we were at the end of 2022-23 season so technically we're not in the Premier League until the new season starts. and vast majority were correct with Championship.

All of that has happened in 10y... imagine what has happened in 23 years... and counting

Tha's reyt. I just had to push it too far. Coulda said promoted and it'd all be reyt but nah, fucked it up good and proper! 😆

Honestly though, I'd hope that I would have remembered and bumped it wherever we were. ;)

Ten years ago we played Preston and drew 0-0 to guarantee a play off game against Yeovil. Awful times football wise but great match day programmes with free snazzy 3d glasses. The football was one dimensional but the programme was 3d.
