I also don't get this, but wilder knows what he's doing in this window, he proved that with Evans/Norwood deal.

I just get the feeling if he get a few injuries we have very little cover, I can't get my head around this unless we have someone else lined up...

What is becoming quite clear with CW and AK, is that they know pretty early after signing players as to whether they are good enough or not.

We are seeing a pattern of some not staying long at all and being sold or loaned out with a view to a sale.

I like it - it means we are looking to improve all the time - and quickly :):):) and without breaking the piggy bank. Lee Evans is testament to this strategy, perhaps Leonard is the next..

We haven't got to help Middlesbrough out. We're not in for Johnson or Fletcher anymore by the looks of it - they both look like joining Hull.

Coutts isn't yet back. Bryan, Leonard's possible replacement, isn't even fit enough. Baldock's currently injured.

So who does this deal benefit, apart from Leonard?

It makes no sense not to keep him until January. We have nothing to lose.

Slightly reminds me of the Evans situation – it may be his preference all along had been a move to Millwall when they first came on the scene.

Wilder’s interview yesterday didn’t really give off a vibe that he was particularly vital to keep. He was also adamant that we should trust him on this to make the right decision for us.

I don’t mind at all if we keep him but maybe half a season playing regular championship football will turn him into a better player. One that we’ll use in the second half of the season or sell for a good fee. If he has a few good games Derby will probably offer £5m in the JTW.

That's a scenario I wouldn't be against. It would be smart. Although I'd still much rather keep him for now.

We'd be improving our player and increasing our asset's value - one who still has 3 years left on his contract with us. Then as you say, use him or sell for good money.

We're ridding ourselves of this possibility if we agree to sell for £1.5m now.

If anyone seriously sees Ryan Leonard turning into a £5m player the world has officially gone totally fucking bonkers....

Fuck me. Three weeks ago it was get rid of the shitcunt. He has a good fifteen minutes at QPR and he’s turned into fucking Modric.
Have you considered the fact they might be different posters with differing opinions ?

Yes, it would be a bit disappointing if we did that. Even if CW thinks Lenny will never make a championship player (and thus will never be worth more than £1.5m), Harris does seem to have an eye for a player. I suppose the risk would be that he bombs at Millwall and we end up stuck with him, loaning him out to a L1 club and subsidising his wages.

It’s a difficult one, probably harder than Evans, who had played enough for CW and AK to know what he’s capable of, or Holmes, who they obviously decided wasn’t good enough. Maybe a compromise would be £1.5m plus a share of any profit made on his next transfer.

Tbh, it’s not a decision I’d like to have to make.

Controversial but wouldn’t it be better to work that out before signing them?

Not controversial at all, I bet the pair of them see much more from 5 days of training each week, than 90 minutes of game time when only a maximum of 14 can play.

Take Clarke - many are saying he should be dropped - he could be a monster in training.

I think that's the plan, as in the checklist of skills and character.
Obviously everything's subjective so errors will be made but you can't really know until you have the player and work with them.
As Fulwood Blade says, if there is a mis-match, CW and AK seem prepared to act quickly rather than being afraid to admit that the mis-match exists.

Think Leonard is on his was before we put a random Y at the end of his name. One Y is enough in someone's name.

Is he playing for free too?
Cash in for Leonard and wages out, COnner won't be in a position to demand a high wage, he can't even get a game at QPR and Wilder has reservations with only giving him. 12 month contract.

Millwall are quite unique as a buying club for Leonard in that they're possibly the only club willing and able to pay a decent fee. That's because he's proven little in this league with us and they were chasing him previously. They're also looking to replace Saville, and the chance to sell them Leonard could be gone if they bring in someone else today.

So I understand this selling opportunity, for a fee he arguably hasn't proven he's worth yet.

But we don't need to be hasty and short term based in our decision.

He's got 3 years on his contract. He's not going to be worth less than we paid anytime soon. There's plenty of time for him to increase in value and gain more suitors. Even if it meant loaning him out to one of the lower Championship sides, like Bolton, Ipswich or anyone managed by Nigel Clough, and putting him in the shop window that way.

That's looking at it from a selling and financial point of view.

From a football point of view, hopefully he does well for us. Then the rest takes care of itself. That's the ideal scenario.

For me... Keep him until January. Consider a Championship loan for him. Then consider selling him in the summer - when he'll still have 2 years left on his deal. Or keep him, obviously.

With the dire lack of incomings we need to hang onto him unless the next 20 mins is epic.
