Leon Clarke

It was quite surreal wasn't it?

Not only 4 goals, but all in one half!

He's just doubled his season total and he's now our top scorer with 8!

He's undoubtedly the surprise player of the season - and it's not like there's a lack of candidates for that.

He's in the form of his life. He's certainly in the best condition of his life.

Long may it continue.

I think the rest who have surprised us haven't had the baggage Leon has. Basham, Wright etc have never failed at this level or had as many chances at this level. For Clarke to suddenly start showing the best form of his career right now is the most surprising story of all for us in my opinion.

Do you mean the critique that is filled with reasons for why Clarke wasn’t that good today, despite being one of our best players (goals aside), in order to make you feel better about your initial opinion of him being so far off the mark?

I’m happy to continue ignoring critiques like that
Oh dear.

Yes I think it’s probably best if you don’t try to argue your way out of it, there’s only one way that would go.
2 Questions.

Do you have access to a full replay of the game ?

Would you like to take part in an experiment ?

Outstanding forward play since he came back from suspension....

He’s in with a shout for wilders best signing now imo and that’s a tough crown given the likes of JOC, fleck and Duffy.

As for the sitters - watching the highlights back mcgregor pulled off some unreal saves imo

The first couple of goals he took like a premier league striker

No and for what purpose?

Are you really carrying on the argument that Clarke isn’t a good player for us?
Shame.

The purpose was for an experiment. Thought I’d mentioned that !

Which bit of unplayable (see #52) are you not getting sunshine ?

Player of the season so far.
Defends from the front like a maniac, ball usually sticks to him, put the porkers to the sword and now scores four in half an hour.
At some point he or we'll wake up but in the mean time we're enjoying probably the best centre forward displays since Deano.

You did but I also thought my question was obvious in that I was asking what your ‘experiment’ was concerning.

Ah, I see you’ve resorted to your condescending use of the term ‘sunshine’. It’s good that you know when you’re beaten.

Unplayable but relatively poor for 52 minutes? Isn’t that what you said?

Are you still of the opinion that Clarke isn’t a good player for us?

Was it Dronnie Blade who was so critial of Clarke last year? Constantly deriding him for his play. Kept saying 'Tell me I am wrong!' I think was his statement?

Is it time now to say, 'You're wrong!'

As for the first 50 minutes, he missed 2 headers. Both were decent efforts rather than really bad misses. First one the keeper made a superb save. Outside of that he was still good, worked the line well, held it up and a threat with his running and hold up.

Been our player of the season and outstanding since April last season.

to be fair he deserved that he has been absolutely immense recently

1:15am and I've still not come up with a superlative that couldn't be applied to Leon yesterday. Just....what a performance. It seems like he's a little shy when it comes to adulation from the fans, but I hope he enjoyed it after that. He fucking deserved it. Magnificent.

Leon is not and will never be the best player to play for us. But today he got what he has deserved for his performances over the last 12 months. Found myself giggling when his 4th went in because it's so rare that a player like Clarke gets his just rewards. He was magnificent. (Thought Duffy played a blinder too).

I just watched Leon score his brace of braces today and it really is like some saccharine sweet Disney tale....
Hard done by Journeyman finally becomes a Master when placed in the right environment

Love it!!!

If anyone watches F1, I've been thinking recently how much Leon is becoming the Jenson Button of football.

Talented no doubt, moved around, got a bit of a reputation for partying, couldn't always get the best out of it unless everything was to his satisfaction, then he settled at Honda (which morphed into Brawn), his fitness took a step up, his personal life settled down and they set the car up for him, how he likes it and he was the best in the world in 2009 having been almost unemployed at the end of 2008 and floating in the middle of the grid for most of his career.

Both decent blokes too. They ought to go for a pint haha

I am not sure how he got injured, but whatever happened he went into beast mode when he came back on

Leon is one of the leonine names that is extremely hot in Europe right now—it's Number 21 in Sweden, Number 25 in Norway, and Number 68 in Scotland. Although it peaked here in the 1920s, it is slowly making its way back, now at Number 276, and it could climb further with parents wanting a more serious and studious alternative to Leo.

Well it’s number 1 in Sheffield :)

You keep ignoring the critique.

Easy to hide behind the 4 goal hero.

I think the clue is in the "4 goal" bit.

As for the nonsense about querying the first 52 minutes, you might as well point out that he didn't do much in between the goals either. What did the Romans ever do for us, eh?

You didn't like Clarke and obviously still don't. Why not just keep away from threads about him, rather than posting absolute nonsense.

After an admittedly poor start last season, Leon has just got better and better. Full marks to him for plugging away and he deserves all the accolades he is currently getting.

When Clarke was at Hillsborough, I always thought he was sloppy. But I don't think anyone doubted that he has ability. Tufté does seem to have got the best out of him, which is no mean achievement. Brian Laws was saying the same on the radio recently.

How's about Clarky the Leonheart? You've not heard them all yet. Putin.png

Your so clever and I’m so stupid.

Nice one. Bravo.
