Source - Highly respected businessman/sponsor.
Two other players - Winger and a Goalkeeper. Both at a club currently in a lower League than SUFC.

Interesting, does that mean the Hanson rumour is boll*x? I'd rather have Hanson than Clarke but Clarke is an ok signing for this division and ourselves.

With regards to the other two players, do they play for Wilder's previous club?

What some would say is exactly what they did say, in an attempt to inject a little bit of perspective.

This sponsor, who should not be releasing information of this nature in any event, is privy to the ever-changing ebb and flow of the highly volatile transfer market, is he? He not only knows who's coming but how many and in what order?

So, we have it on record. Three newcomers (odd in itself as we need far more) of whom Leon Clarke will be the first, followed in no particular order by Ricky Holmes and Adam Smith (both together, perhaps?). Very important to get the sequence right in player recruitment, especially with the big kick-off almost upon us.

No doubt the sponsor will let Chris know that he's facilitated a broadcast of the information and that we all anxiously await developments....I'm sure Chris will keep him updated in real time.

Good goal scorer at this level, wouldn't be a starter but an option on the bench! Better than Hanson?! I'm not sure.

Bury are claiming that we tabled a bid for Leon Clarke however we later withdrew it? Does this mean we are at advanced stages with a different target man?

Leon Clarke has done the rounds on here quite a bit and he is a player that we have had no choice but to admire because he has always done half decent against us. He was spot on for Coventry however I do think he might have gone over that peak in his career now and he wouldn't be the best option for us anyway therefore all things said and done I am actually quite glad that we have withdrawn if this is true.

One year in league one he'd be a good option...what did he average for a poor Bury, 1 in 2? Would do a job and provide something different, only for a promotion bid this season mind, not for the Championship.

When did they claim this? Is there a link?

He did a great job for Wolves against us a couple seasons back, and we should have signed him that summer (2 years ago now?)

At least if we sign him, we've saved ourselves a goal or two conceded this season.

I bet they were gutted when the bid was withdrawn then as a winding up petition went in on the 15th June

Not really my cup of tea this bloke , but knows how to put himself about and score goals . If Bury do go into administration , we may get him at a knock down price from the administrator / receiver . May be method in United's madness.

Still not a position of major concern, however if true and we are I would be interested to see how Clarke behaved if he played for Knill at bury. He's a bit of a loose canon and I don't think you know what you're getting from manager to manager. But if he has done well under Knill, that might be enough for wilder and he won't be as expensive as some of the others and a mobile target man

Just really worrying Wilder seems to be shopping for players that aren't good enough.

Its a position of major concern to me as I don't believe that the Sharp / Adams pairing has worked, nor do I think that it will work effectively going forwards. We need a big, strong, fast goalscorer to play upfront with Sharp, if we are seriously challenging for promotion this year .......

How is he deemed "not good enough" Barney ? 1 in 2 last year on a bang average side , looked more than adequate at the lane last season and took his goal very well as he always seems to do against us. Not saying he is a world beater but would say he would chip in with a decent amount of goals in this league . Not good enough for a higher level granted, but we have to get there first ! Who would you prefer us to realistically sign who would offer a possible 1 in 2 ratio in the pub league we still find ourselves in ? Not having a pop at you as he certainly is not my favourite person but I reckon he could do a job ! As ever UTB

Someone on here (can't remember the poster) did claim a while back that Clarke was going to be Wilder's first signing.

I am worried that charlton have brought in all these players yet the first person they tried to sign went to us. Strange that you want all the players they did sign but not Duffy though?

My man of choice would be James Vaughan, however the budget doesn't appear to be there when we have more important holes to fill in my eyes.

I doubt he would have been released if he wasn't so injury prone. Great player when fit and on his game but we've had enough sick notes to last us a lifetime
So it's a no from me

I'm reading this and, I can feel in my water, someone is going to go to Charlton before long aren't they!!!!
