Wasn't that crazy about Mr Green, failed to acknowledge the great strides forward that Wilder and the team have done this season when asked, just brought up the poor start of the season. And why be so cagey on how many season tickets sold? Maybe he's a good lad, don't know him, but came across a little distant to me.

And Gary Megson's kids were a few years above me at school  Least we had Joe Root to mek up for things :)

Met his son on an England trip in Switzerland 2014, most of his mates are blades.. fortunately for him he looks fuck all like his dad

What a great Sheffield United man Len Badger is. Gave his all for the Blades every time he played - you could see how much it meant to him - and he's just the same as a supporter.
He comes across as a genuinely good bloke.

I'm making a confession here.

In 1975 when I was a kid my parents went to a dinner and dance evening and brought me back a paper plate signed by Len Badger. It was my pride and joy for about a week then ended up in the bin.

Also I vaguely know Martin, now lives in a big house in Rotherham. He's OK but being a management/ director type has learnt it's often wise and prudent to keep your cards close to your chest.

Martin Green amongst other things owns the Courtyard boozer at Wickersley and that's where all the players and Wilder ended up I think for last Xmas piss up. They hired it out on a Sunday afternoon if memory serves me correct for a private booze up. One of the lads/ex-players I know was invited and was in there.

I think Green has his fingers in a number of pies including Redtooth

To be fair to Green it looked to me that he acted in a deferential way on all footballing matters to Len Badger . I can't really fault him for that .

I do however agree with you on the ST numbers though , it's hardly a matter of national security is it ? Maybe it's a difficult one to calculate with a large number being taken up via direct debit and this makes it a little more difficult to get an accurate number ?? Or could it be a simple case of keeping our cards close to our chest with salary negotiations for new/retained players looming large ??

Martin formed Redtooth with his pal.

Who'd have thought merging pub trivia quizzes with bingo would be so lucrative. He's branched out into other areas too, good luck to him, he's definitely a proper Blade.

He's a good lad Martin, he's a couple of years older than me and went to Park House School in Tinsley where some of his family still live. He used to do the pub quiz questions in the Pike and Heron for many years, always a good night out although some of the answers to the questions were always a bit dubious. He knocked about with Andy and Gavin Clarke who ran Brother to Brother when it was on Division St who are also spot on lads. I've spoken to a couple of mates who still see him and also to his sister recently and to be fair to Martin he's definitely putting into the club both time wise and with a few quid for events and such like so he's doing things for the right reason, although a bit of free advertising of his company Redtooth won't go a miss;). He was always a bit of a quiet lad so I'm guessing that whilst he's good when he's in work mode I'm not so sure he'll enjoy things like tv interviews as I wouldn't think it's his thing so he might come across a bit differently to his normal personality. All in all unless he changed completely since I last saw him he was always ok and fairly grounded. I must say I was surprised when I saw what he was doing with the club but I'm guessing he's fell into it rather than him doing the pushing:tumbleweed: yep I've bored myself with writing that :(

Travesty he never played for England

Wasn't he a shoe-in for a cap when the regular England right-back (Cohen?) was injured. Ramsey switched Cyril Knowles from left back and played him instead. It rankled then and rankles still.

Got worried . Thought that other bastard named Green was back on the scene .

Thank the Lord for small mercies .

I suspect he genuinely didn't know or couldn't remember the precise figure. He obviously remembered the salient point that we'd sold more than last year. I can relate to that as my memory works like that. As you say, it may also be down to not processing all the direct debits and the possibility that some applicants might get turned down. It would look daft if he gave a figure and it turned out to be lower, particularly if it was because a few of our supporters were refused credit (and you'd be able to work out how many).

I thought he spoke quite well generally. I noticed a few posters saying recently how we'd improved our marketing and communication this season and I wonder if that's down to him.

Sir Leonard once tried to buy our house in dronfield
Our lass overruled me
She's a pig
Mind you it was hers to sell
Top bloke is len,his missus is lovely too
One of my all time heroes
Travesty he never played for England

I read that in the style of Ted Hughes.

Bravo!

It's a salient point that Martin Green makes about captain, manager and chairman all being Blades - & how strikingly unusual a feature that has to be in this day and age.

We really are one of English football's truly traditional clubs (in the very best sense).

Surely the amount of season tickets we've sold now will be close to the final total?
Who on earth is waiting until we're officially promoted and prices go up before getting there's?

When Len was asked about 'playing under great captains' it would've been easy for him to point out that he was captain for the majority of his games at the Lane (youngest ever captain?)

With great humility he focussed on the great team spirit and dressing room that Wilder has fostered.

Top bloke.
