Bergen Blade while I completely agree that a "fit and motivated" Lee Williamson is a very good player at this level United had to make a decision about what he is worth. The outcome of that was evidently short of Williamson's self-assessment.

My issue is that for every three good moves there would be a mistake. I know that it could be argued that Unitedites give 'flair' players less time than grafters but what annoys me more than anything is a good player without the drive to make the most of their ability. Williamson falls squarely into this category: he is good enough to be getting the man of the match awards in the biggest games of the season but he won't because too often he hides when the going gets tough and the pressure is on.

I can't believe anyone is thinking that Flynn is a replacement for him on what we saw last season.

And for what it's worth, I think Flynn has the potential to be a good player for United. When he got a run of games near the end of the season I thought he contributed well for us.

We will get poorer quality players because we pay less (except when the Monty/Cresswell contract expire because they are well over the odds).

As for Flynn and the last sentence, I just thought he flattered to deceive (even in his "run of games") and was sadly lacking in those elements I regard as essential in wingers (i.e. the ability to beat a man and deliver a cross). I actually think he looked for reasons not to go around people because even he doesn't believe he can do it.

Flynn tends not to lose the ball, but that's literally the full extent of his capabilities.

We had the right flank sewn up with Lowton and Williamson, now it's wide open.

Those goals, and goals from midfield at that, will be difficult to replace.

Seems there's always an excuse for the greed that drips from every aspect of the modern game.

I'm not particularly bothered that Willo has gone. I'm pretty much past caring when players leave these days.

But the principle that it's ok to take hundreds of thousands or millions out of a club, tell the fans (who invest their emotion and cash in you) that you care when in actual fact you are just waiting to be offered more cash somewhere else, is depressing. Even more depressing is that everyone just seems to accept it as the norm these days.

I appreciate football is a business and players are just earning a living etc but because of the attachment between fans and clubs and players it isn't like most businesses.

Kissing the badge one day and buggering off for a few quid more the next just about sums up the modern game.

completely agree. it was sad to see a young lad so low on confidence that even in a team smashing most teams in the league he didnt dare try n beat someone. even in a 5 man midfield, when uv got all manner of players to cover if u lose it and you HAVE to try and beat people to open up the game, he kept cutting back.

jury's out on whether he's good enough to play for us. on the charge of having had a poor season and not been daring enough, the jury was back within 60 seconds to record a unanimous guilty.

i hope he kicks on next season and does really well, iv seen nothing to suggest he cant.

I'd be happier to see him on the right - let's give him a chance in what should be his best position before writing him off. With an attacking fullback on that side (Westlake) it could be a very good combination.

You have to be able to back it up though Tarqs, loads of "job-hoppers" in my industry who will leap for a couple of extra "K" and a lot of them eventually run out of places to hop to, get a bad reputation and end up bombing out. In the long run they end up worse off.

They say it takes a year for foreigners to get into the English way of playing. Could be similar for Flynn. I think he will have a better season this year if he is given a run and not just a stop gap for Wilson's 1st eleven like last year.

In regards to Williamson, I have turned down a job in London this year so I can start a family with my wife. The money would have been great, however my wife wouldn't be near her family. I am not sure where Willo is with his family so can't really comment on his situation. I do however doubt he will beat the deal he was offered with us or he would have got it by now.

Flynn is, at best an impact sub. We saw flashes of what he's capable of but if he wants to cut it in England, he needs to bulk up a bit

Had his best season in a red and white shirt since his days at Millmoor. I would like him to stay as he's a very good player, especially at this level.

If he is a high earner (i imagine he is) then maybe he needs to go. If asked who i'd prefer to keep it would be McD. He was our engine last yr. When he was injured we barely won a game.

Flynn said in an interview that he preferred playing on the left, and I think it's because he lacks the pace and dribbling ability to get past full backs on the outside. To get crosses in, his best option is to cut inside and then it's better for him to be on the left as it allows him to cross with his right. It's a valid point though that having an attacking, overlapping fullback in Westlake would help him.

In the long run I don't think he'll offer enough though, sadly.

Yeah two attacking players on the right and no one at right back............
Flynn doesn't look strong or quick enough imo, but he has shown brief flashes and seems to have a decent shot on him - lets see what this season brings.

Personally I would love Willo to stay, he offers industry and guile and he can score from midfield. But at they end of the day they all look after themselves and loyalty means f*ck all to most pros - which hurts.....
