Lee Williamson....

And how do we get rid of him then? He wont just go you know, Nobody who can afford his wages will take him on given that he is as bad as many on here make out

Hence why I call it an "excellent trick".

I don't expect him to leave, I don't expect Cresswell to leave. I just think we would be far better off if they would and we could replace them with cheaper yet better replacements.

Still not found a new club.

Wonder if he will come back and accept our offer.

If he did I would offer him even less. 'Sorry Lee but we have had to go elsewhere for a replacement and this is now all we can offer you, take it or leave it'

I think Williamson will be a Sheffield United player on 1 September 2012.

He thinks the grass is greener, hasn't found the grass as yet then if all else fails, he'll come sniffing back. As long as we give him a couple of years i'd be happy with that. It's if we give him a few months to 1yr, he'll bugger off next year.

But if he can't get a club after the season he's just had surely he wouldn't find it all that easy next summer either!

For what it's worth, I'd still look to be giving him a two year deal if we could keep him as I don't think we've replaced him adequately yet.

He's obviously holding out for a Championship offer which I presume would've come by now being as he's a free agent.

He's probably sat there now thinking. "I'm gonna look a right twat going back to Bramall Lane after I snubbed their contract offer."

If he was Championship standard, he'd have been snapped up by now.

Most League 1 clubs won't be able to afford him

That is what I am thinking and him being linked with Bournemouth is more of a step down than a step up. If he signs for a championship club then fair play to him but surely one would of signed him by now.

Sign him up on a 3yr deal 33% of what he was on ................... that way he won't be paid for his 2yr on the treatment table :D

I think we'd only need him for 1 year tbh. Just enough to help us out of this league.

If he did come back, how much effort is he going to put in?

Time to move on.

Why would he just stop trying his best? Fit and firing he's a good Championship player. I'd only criticise a player if they try to wangle a move when under contract. Out of contract, he can do as he pleases.

Agree. He's looking for his last 'big' payday and players in that position tend not to bust a gut (ditto loan players who often flatter to deceive, get a contract and then appear not to give a toss).

Overall, Lee had an excellent season last year, but he's been trying to hold us to ransom and could have disrupted our pre-season plans. Sorry, Lee. There's plenty of far better players out there looking for a contract.

Willo has the right to look around and find the best deal for himself

The lucrative 3 year contract, half of which spent on the treatment table cuts no ice in terms of loyalty or repaying the club by taking a hit and re-signing. His perogative.

Porter took a pay cut (apparantly) MacD took a pay cut (apparantly). Both re-signed for the club

So, withdraw the offer, tell him to f'k off and ffs move on. I no longer give a flying f'k about him. All that matters now, is that the club manage to bring in a suitable replacement

Rather than 'keeping the offer on the table', I think we should have reduced the offer by 5% for every week he didn't sign. It would have put some more pressure on him to decide sooner.

McMahon may be a little different type of right back to Lowton, I don't expect him to bomb forward as much. It may be that we'll require a different type of right winger too, someone quicker who can create things by himself, rather than as a pair like Williamson and Lowton. It looks like Flynn is first choice at the moment, backed up by Chappell.

Hardly fair when we wouldnt offer him a new deal before the summer. hes got every right to do what he wants.

5% off per week? what if he'd said il take 5 mins off every game im willing to play for u until u decide whether to offer me a new deal so i can sort out my future. i know we all want to know what hes doing, but hes out of contract. hes got to think of himself and his family.

United didn't offer him a contract because they didn't know what divison they would be in. Williamson was part of a team that got us relegated, then didn't get promoted - and he earned towards £2M from our club along the way, spending large chunks of his time on his arse. I'm suprised you'd choose to side with the player on this one.

Speaking personally, I'd got a small fraction of the sum Williamson's earned behind me when I decided that future decisions I'd make wouldn't be solely determined by money. Comparing millionaire footballers with men on the street (thinking of self and family) isn't a fair comparison.

I'd have told him to either accept the deal we are offering or, with our best wishes of course, to fuck off somewhere else.

Disappointed in Willo if he is going to anoth League 1 side. And disappointed with the club if we can't match what another League 1 side offers. He's been inconsistent - & disappeared in some games - but excellent at times & will be missed.
fuck him..he's not a footballer(they want to play).he's one of the growing guys that would sit on anyones bench if the money was right..

It's perfectly fair. We've got every right to offer him what we want. If he doesn't like the offer, fair enough, he'll be free to join someone who offers him a deal he's happier with.

When contracted a player is expected to give his all when selected.

and i dont think many would accuse him of not giving his all. my point is, knocking off a percentage every week in order to blackmail someone into signing for us is as ridiculous as him knocking 5 minutes of how much he'll play for us. the only chance we've got of him signing is if he cant get a championship club. following the 5% a week thing, he could very well miss out of the championship then not be able to sign for us because the offers at 60%. crazy.

Id just put the offer on the table and say we would like to know your decision by x date then it will be withdrawn.

In the meantime while you decide please don't attend training unless you have signed the new deal.

Which is pretty much what we have done It seems.

If he does, I assume we're going to charge him for using our training facilities.

Not sure he has been training I thought he got told to stay away? It said so in the star before they went to Malta.

Could be the usual Star crap reporting though.

He reported to training first day back and there was a pic of him with the others at Shirecliff on the o/s

I think he had a couple of days before Wilson told him to stay away

That will be £10 Mr Williamson for the use of facilities and another £2 for the powerade you had out the cooler.
