My memory of Lee Evans is a smirk at the Blades fans after a Bradford goal in the 3-3 last season.

Never forget owt like that me, so it's a resounding hope not on this one.

Well you don't spend 750k apiece on Leonard and Evans unless you have money to spare. I find that very unlikely to be the case for us.

But the fact he was pulled out of the game today after Leonard's signing does suggest it's happening.

Very strange if it is. And quite wasteful I must say. Unless Wilder wants to become a tinkerman?

I am confused, someone's leaving at a guess

Was he pulled to prevent him being cup tied?

Roygbiv had better get around Wigan/wolves boards

If he's a good player Treeton and Wilder thinks he fits in !!!. I don't care if he dropped his shorts and flashed his bollocks,we can't hold childish things against players .

If true, then I believe cw is building squad numbers as the last 8 games has shown that we would have benefited from a large squad to pick from.
Last season we were extremely fortunate with injuries and surpassed the season unscathed.
However, sparse recruitment in the summer (with proven players at this level)has shown in the last 8 games.
I was begrudgingly stubborn when my Wendy pals said to me that we needed a big squad to compete in this league.
I thought bollox because we never get injuries.
How wrong I was.!!
I do have faith in what we have, but believe that we must shake it up sometimes without getting predictable.

Why would signing two solid midfielders for about 1.5 million when we're very short in that area be a waste? It's depth that we need, and that's what this would give us.

Considering we're supposedly looking for another few signings, it would also prove that we do actually have a pot in which to piss.

Just like buses eh. You wait ages for one and two turn up together. CW said he was looking for two midfielders. He knows the intensity of the game we play will undoubtedly mean tiredness, suspensions and unfortunately injuries as the season progresses. Midfield is where we feel it the most. If its true it means the local media have got it wrong again when it comes to our transfer activity.

Well I'm getting excited, confused but excited

I think some missed CW's last statement in the interview he gave last week when he said somat along the lines of "when supporters see who we're trying to bring in, they'll see we are trying to move the club forward"

A statement of intent perhaps?

Interesting! He does like surprising us does that Christopher!

Suppose it'd be insuring against more injury in that area (given that we winged it a bit there the first half of the season) if indeed this is a goer.

The lad's got a right shot on him by the look of it. Hell of a goal here for Wigan v Bury (at about 1.50).

Coutts will be back before we know it. Then there's Fleck, Leonard and Lundstram too (plus Whiteman, Slater and Carruthers). Four players there who will feature prominently. Players who rarely get injured. But only two generally play at one time. And Basham can easily fill in as we have the defensive numbers to allow that. So is it necessary to spend good money on a 5th? Especially if our budget is modest?

Surely it would be more sensible to loan a midfielder if we're to sign another?

It would also be sensible to sign a Fleck alternative rather than another Leonard/Lundstram type.

It does indicate we might have a decent budget but I still don't want us to spend money unnecessarily.

In CW we trust Ricky

I'm less shocked than others on here that CW is targeting another CM. Today's pairing of Bash & Lafferty was makeshift at best and with Whiteman likely to go back out (either loan or perm), 4 CMs for 2 starting places doesn't seem like overkill especially when the possibility of suspensions, knocks and (God forbid) longer term injuries are considered.

With Coutts due back for pre-season, I take the point about a loan perhaps being a better option, especially if the budget is really as tight as being made out. Which leads me to my final point - where is the money coming from? Is the 'we're skint' line a bluff or are funds to be generated by a player sale?

Carruthers is pants and is hopefully sold or loaned out, Whiteman can’t get in the staring lineup at Doncaster and Slater is developing. Be a great move this if it happens.

I know what you're saying, but I don't think we're anywhere near that point. This signing would give us quality depth. We can't yet rely on Carruthers, Whiteman and Slater.

Just seems like a very sensible signing, exactly the type we should me making.

I agree, really hope not unless it’s maybe Carruthers - but possible it’s a first teamed?

I think CW is playing smart here, Fleck and Coutts are the central pairing but Coutts, is out with a long term injury, might take a while to get back up to speed, Fleck, depending on where we finish might get admiring glances from above.

Getting good quality midfielders in now gives them time to gel, provide great competition and the ability to rotate at will, I think the CM department is arguably the most important on the pitch.

Very exciting times, I think this talk of not having a pot to piss in was all smoke and mirrors so we didn't get pants pulled firmly down in the market.

Had much reason to question CW in last 18 months?

We probably won't need to rely on them though. But they're not bad players. And we can rely on Basham.

I'm not against signing a 4th prominent midfielder for this season but it should be someone more like Fleck, and it should be a loan.

I agree Evans is the right type of player but it's a separate point.

What a hit that is!

As good as our current midfield has been at times , one area where it could definitely improve is shots from distance. Yes we have had the odd stunner from 20+ yards but all too rarely.
Both Leonard and this lad look like they can pull off a screamer and enjoy shooting. Add Thomas into the mix after today....

He knows his onions this Wilder chap :)

Excuse me finlaytheblade, had a long drive today, didn't sleep well last night.

I'm sure Lee Evans would be an excellent addition, and moments of celebration in the heat of the battle, should be forgotten once the whistle blows at the end.

Don't get me started on Jon Moncur though
