Sounds like a broken man. If he hadn't been such a mardy ungratious tosser at the weekend I may have an ounce of sympathy on a basic human level. But he was so I don't.

Keep up the good work Phil.

Any way you spin it both Scunny and Bolton will have had tonight down as must win games before kick off. Still keeping my feet on the ground, but this is a great pair of results.

I have had in my mind for a long time, the thought of "beware of fisherman's friends" type people..... They were/are the threat....

As long as they only get Runners Up now ;)

Both in my view! John Harris is before my time and the football was better I'm sure under Harris but Harris inherited Currie from Arthur Rowley which helped, Woodward came through the youth as did Badger, Hodgy and Jones and they were top notch based on what I know. Harry inherited Whitehouse, Ward. So in terms of signings made under a very low budget and the two promotions beating a very expensively assembled Newcastle and one point off an even more expensive Leeds side and then keeping us up for 4 seasons until the board sold Harry, that's my take on why Harry is the best. Warnock did really well but not as well as Harry and spent more in the top flight.

Think you're incorrect in writing off John Harris achievements based upon Woodward, Badger, Hodgy and Jones coming through the youth. Harris must have been instrumental in developing the youth policy and with chief scout Archie Clark they unearthed some real gems that kept the Blades in the top flight for longer than 4 years.

Harris had the foresight to realise when a team needed to be broken up and to introduce new players. Great managers have this ability. Bill Shankly is lauded for doing the same at Liverpool in 1970(?) when they lost at Watford and Alex Ferguson did it on many occasions.

The sale of Jones and Birchenhall within a couple of months would have broken most managers and although we were relegated that season I think we would have been promoted sooner than the three years it took if Harris had remained in charge and not had the one season sabbatical for Arthur Rowley to step in.

He played the transfer market astutely. The signing of Hope, Ford and Hockey all on the same day in January 1971 was inspired and created the catalyst for promotion that season and the team that has given so many of us older Blades all these memories.

Harry Bassett was one of my favourite managers but John Harris was still the best.

I realise today we are in the third tier and it's early days for Chris Wilder but the football we are playing is entertaining as the football we saw in the 1970's. The average attendance in 1971/72 was over 30,000 and that in my opinion was down to the style of football we played as much as results. Our two last home games attracted over 27,000, incredible, and there are those who are now turning up because they know they'll be entertained. To clarify this point, the football they're suffering over in S6 is reflected in their diasppointing attendances. (I don't accept the pricing argument)

Finally when we talk about tributes and statues there's a big gap on that South stand car park that has the name of John Harris written on it.

I think this is a fair comment. Harris introduced many good young players into the team (He inherited Hodgkinson of course).

Many people who watched the team at the time are rightly proud of the number of Youth team graduates in the team in the 1960s. One question that always bothers me is why this policy collapsed. There was a gap between the late 1960s and mid 1970s where, to the best of my recollection, very little talent from youth ranks was first team ready, and this lack of strength in depth contributed to our relegation in 1976. By that point, we had a good young crop again with Kenworthy, Edwards, Stainrod, Hamson, Speight, Conroy and Benjamin, although that lot were not as good as those that came before, and that moron Haslam sold off a lot of those players off anyway.

What happened? Did Archie Clark go and not get replaced?

judging by the depressed demoralised tone of Parkinson's interview I'd be impressed if they even made the play-offs. Shouldn't complain though 'cos last season we had the forever cheery philosopher in charge

D- for your SUFC History essay!
Harris signed TC
We signed Whitehouse and Ward when McEwan was the manager so Bassett inherited them! Bassett's youth policy was poor!

Good to see fat Face Karl, taking the leagues biggest club in the wrong direction.

Charlton are now playing attacking expansive football but Robinson doesn't seem bothered about defense.

They also (like he did at MK) have more possession, create more chances and look the better team but (again like MK) have developed this terrible habit of playing well but really struggling to pick up points.

Robinson is still upbeat and confident they'll turn their good performance into results, just like he was at MK before getting the sack.

apparently Robinson went ape shit , accused half the team of not trying and says big changes will be made for their trip to Northampton
When some said Charlton would make a late run I struggled to see how with the players they had
There hasn't been any signs of any team work or momentum from them all season

Good to see that they've hit a bad run because I thought they were likely to take points off us at Bramall Lane.

But in the form they're in now and after our games against Scunny and Bolton, I'm not too worried.

Rochdale looks less difficult than it might have done too.

On the other hand the Swindon game looks more difficult now though. They're an attacking threat again with (Charlton loanee) Ajose back with Obika and Gladwin, and they're fighting to stay up.

Oxford away also looks tough, they have a lot of attacking talent and are in good form.

Wonder if he'll still claim they are the biggest club in the league after their trip to BDBL in a couple of weeks

You can still get 4/1 Blades from Fleetwood and as a saver, 40/1 Fleetwood from Blades

Fill your boots

Also as a saver, 33/1 Blades to drop into the play offs by season's end

There might be some sensible bets to be had, given current form.

40 quid on Blades / Fleetwood@ 4/1
5 quid on Fleetwood to win the league@ 33/1
5 quid on Fleetwood / Blades@ 40/1

You'd lose if one of Bolton or Scunny finished in a promotion place or we dropped into the play offs (you could cover that with a fiver @ 33/1) but on current form both those scenarios look unlikely.

The signing of Billy Dearden for £10,000 was a masterstroke from Harris.

Somebody's got to finish 2nd. But choosing between Rosler, Alexander and Mardy Parky is like saying, who's your favourite in Hitier, Stalin or Mussolin?
Be nice to see Stuart McCall Bradford get their collective finger out though......

Let's not forget his 1961 team and the signing of Len Allchurch. Harris, like Hodgkinson,.is the bar Managers and Keepers since have yet to surpass. Statues for Harris,Woody, Hodgy, Hagan and Currie would be on my list (the latter two on the new kop please.:)

Fleetwood v burton in the championship lol.Surely not

Fleetwood and Burton in the Championship. Very commendable but to put things in perspective, if Chris Wilder was still at Halifax they'd be in the Champions League by now.
