We hate it when pundits and other fans describe our players this way. Tonight Wilder did, and has done on at least one other occasion recently as well.

You could argue he's earned the right to do so. He is their manager, so has the closest understanding of their abilities and level.

I have to admit though, as much as I love Chris, this doesn't quite sit right with me. The players have surely earned the right to be called Premier League players. If we were getting relegated I could understand, but they've held their own pretty much all season.

He was spot on with his assessment of our performance. We were very poor. I certainly appreciate his honest, critical attitude, and push for quality. But I think calling them this was pushing it too far.

Maybe it was an attempt to get a response from them, but given that it was a somewhat emotional tirade, it seemed like he really meant it, rather than just mind games.

He isn't trying to insult them, disrespect them or anger them, he's reminding them of how far they've come, how much they've changed, what they've achieved and why they threw that all away and forgot that tonight.

He's just after a response. Look at how well Henderson has done since Wilder had a pop at him in the media following the home match against Liverpool.

Even if we don't beat Everton we'll see a much better performance from the players, guaranteed.

He was 100% right, you are only as good as your last game, we were awful and they let themselves the manager and fans down big time. Weve had a wonderful season thanks to this team but they deserve the rollicking for that pathetic effort tonight.

I can certainly empathise with that point of view.

It seems like this is the implicit point- his managerial ability- underlying those comments which, honestly, comes across as egotistical, something which we wouldn't normally associate with Wilder. So it leaves me confused. Does he really mean to say that they are L1/Champ players and that it is him who has made them what they are?

This may even be true, but i still don't think it's a good idea to say it. Say that performance was lower league standard, by all means, but I just find it strange that he's making a point that pundits have made all season, and one which we have criticised.

I hope this is the case. I honestly think it will get a response.

If I were a player I would think, 'I'll show you' and up my game. However I have to admit that I would also want some confidence in my ability from my manager. Calling me lower league standard could hurt that confidence.

I don't think Wilder was playing any tactical premeditated mind games with the squad tonight. I think he saw a poor performance, lost his cool and let rip. I honestly reckon he will regret some of the things he said tomorrow once he's cooled down. That being said, his comments are honest and true regarding contracts, level of players individually (not as a team) and mentality during the game.

Honestly I do think he is just an excellent manager getting the very best out of them most of the time, which is shown by the fact that performances like tonight are few and far between.

However, it serves as a reminder of what can happen if we take our eye off the ball and stop playing as a team in the way that has got us to this point.

He's right.
The reason they can currently class themselves as Premier League players is because that's where they're playing, and that's because of their management in a system that works and suits them....while they are playing it.
If they do what they're told, they get results in League One, the Champ, and the Premier league.
If they don't, they look like they did before CWAK got hold of them.
A real measure would be to see how many would be signed by other Prem clubs if they all went on the open market.
JOC, Egan, perhaps? The rest, probably not.
As CW has always said, we HAVE to be at the top of our game to compete in the PL and more often than not, he has managed to make that happen.
Watch Spurs and Arsenal who have had a similar return to us. They have a team of players who are better class, just poorly managed.

The thing that was getting under his skin is what he got off his chest. Players wanting days off and some playing silly buggers on their contracts.
