Lavery

This thread seems to have decided none of our strikers are good enough now.
They are all either slow (Billy / Hansen) , injury prone (Ched / Clarke) or just not skilled enough (Lavery).
Funny how one unlucky defeat can cause the seeds of doubt to suddenly sprout into green saplings of despondency.

Sorry Pitts but I've been saying strikers are our weakness since we got promoted , nothing new in that.

Lavery is 25 in a few weeks and has only ever made 43 starts. That's simply nowhere near enough. He's injury prone and obviously never really fancied at any club. I'm fine with him being a squad player but we need better to push (or preferably be in) the starting 11.

Spot on Pittsburg.

I think Ricky called it right. He's Wilder's whipping boy. Every manager has one. It's just not very attractive as it seems a little obvious. To be held up and shown up publicly as " Ched's gone ahead of you in the pecking order" is wrong. That stuff is generally left to be said behind the scenes. Thing is that Lavery isn't going to take that. If he feels any injustice, he will just tell Wilder to stuff it. I would. GLTTL

The thing is, Ched has shown better form and so is getting the chances that Lavery would have got if he had shown the same form, if he wants a chance then he has to step it up, that's the nature of football.

To say that he's Wilder's whipping boy is surely a joke? I can't understand why you would try and stir up trouble that doesn't exist. Where's you're direct quote "Ched's gone ahead of you in the pecking order" from?

He needs to go out on loan, for me. I don't think these cameos here and there are doing him any good as a player.

He's unlikely to get a run of games under his belt for us. If we could get a couple of strikers in, and loan him out until Christmas, as long as he stays injury-free I think we'll get a much better player back.
You could say that about all the players who aren't in the current first team, he needs to take his chance when he gets it, like everyone else.

I read that quote Marty. It came straight from Wilder. After the Walsall game.

Difficult considering the way the team was playing and his strike partner.

Apparently when up top with Brooks vs Stoke he apparently played well.

I'm simply confirming what Wilder said. Personally I'm a fan of Caolan. If we could afford to give him and a fit Ched a run I think they could rip the fuck out of teams with good supply on the deck.

I agree, I think their movement is better than Clarke and Sharps for example. As I said in a few posts, against the top teams, when we're naturally more defensive, Sharp offers next to nothing.

Really? Doesn't seem at all obvious to me.
Nothing against him other than he's never shown quite enough, when given a chance, to nail down a starting slot. He's been brought on and looked OK but never better than that and he doesn't look like someone who will bang in loads of goals. If he HAD torn the place up then I'm sure he'd be in.
Whipping boy? Nah, simply hasn't done enough yet.

Fair do's. I still don't think it's a big thing, whether out in the open or behind closed doors, footballers would rather know whether they're first choice or not in my opinion so they can fight their way back in.

I think he should go out on loan to league one for six months and get his fitness and form into shape and assess things from there. He doesn't seem to be the sort of player you can just throw on and get results in this league, we need better options up front as it is no point having him if he doesn't even make the squad. Never really saw the fuss in him to be honest, has the same scoring rate as Chris Porter

I don't remember the quote actually being specifically about Lavery, it was a generalisation that no one had done enough to force their way into Wilders Boro plans after Walsall other than Ched, who had made him think.
He said the others needed to show that sort of impact to force their way in and no one else had done it....so Ched was now higher up the pecking order.

He's started less than 50 games in his career. He'll never improve without a consistent run of games. He needs to play regularly to get that injury sorted as well. Stop, start won't help.

So a loan to L1 or L2 then ??

League 1. Until January. See if he can sustain fitness and find some consistent form.

I just don't think he'll be able go do that here as things stand.

So a loan suits all.

Gets him some pitch time, where we can monitor progress.

He's in last chance saloon for me. If he either doesn't impress on loan, or in training, he's toast.

Bring someone in on loan until January (as well as another striker). Basically, tell him that if he goes out, does well and remains fit, then he'll be part of the first team squad when he comes back.

He's 24 and not played anywhere near the amount of football he needs to in order to improve.

We can either play him and stick with him regardless for 5 or 6 games or get him up to speed somewhere else. At the moment, he's not good enough to warrant a start for me. (he'll probably score a hattrick tonight now!).

Do you ever think giving a player a chance might work ,or is your and Dronnies reaction always just to get rid and get someone new in ? The Dronnierobbie art of management ,ie not a clue. No wonder you didn't want Wilder here ,someone who actually knows what he is doing. Why were you so quiet last season btw ,and after one defeat you are slavering all over the forum like a dog on heat ?

Or it might spur him on to prove him wrong?

Watch him come on and score 2 tonight. Seriously thought I think he does have something as we all saw it in flashes last season, the injurys definetly didn't help.

No way out on loan that would be the beginning of the end for him.
He's far off the scrap heap for me impact player off the bench for now
