Decent interview from Gids but I would have liked a bit more in depth questions regarding John Brayford. I.E does Wilder want him to stay, it seems from the short clip on Brayford that, in my view, Wilder isn't that fussed about keeping him, or a deal has maybe already been struck up/progressing as we speak.

I got the impression that Brayford falls into the Greedy, not bothered bracket. Wilder obviously doesn't want to keep him, best to get his sold nice and early. (Hopefully Burton will take him). Compare his Brayford comments to those about Ched and you realise that Ched is a Wilder pick and not forced upon him by the board (Which was my opinion until listening to this).
I could listen to Wilder all day, looking forward to the pre-season already!

Why do you think Brayford is greedy?

Listening to the interview it suggests that EEL isn't our number 1 target at CB or even number 2 or 3, sounded like a polite thanks for last season but we're gonna need better.

Brayford took a large paycut to join us. How the hell is he greedy?

This newly discovered brayford hate on here is totally bizarre.

He wants 2 CB's and one of them he'd like it to be EEL. Sorry but Wilder has got this one wrong. Ebanks just isn't good enough at this level imo.

I don't see us not signing another striker, or at least someone who can play up front. Alan Nixon (Sun journo) said yesterday we 'might spend heavy on a striker'. So maybe it will be a case of wait and see what's available.

As for Ebanks-Landell, I wouldn't be against it if we could get him for a sensible fee, maybe exploiting the situation at Wolves. 350k or less is what I'd consider.
I usually tend to agree with your posts Ricky but not this one regarding EEL. I think at this level he will be a liability.

Brayford could come back and prove a great asset to us next year with no transfer fees involved or extended contracts. He's performed well this year in a lower end championship team - it wouldn't surprise me at all if he excelled in the new look united with the team spirit now at the club.

Really interesting over the two winger targets. I can only guess that Wilder wants wingers so we can adapt to playing a more traditional system at times. I hope we persist with the 3-5-2 though since its worked so well, but Wilder knows best that's for sure. No mention of signing a left wing back/left back either?! Maybe that's because that deal is already done for Stevens.

Unless he’s just referring to wing backs as wingers because they are the wide players in the system we will play. Maybe one would be an attacking winger (like the kid at Hartlepool) and the other a wing back such as Stevens?

Maybe he means traditional wingers and not wide midfielders as some seem to be suggesting. As in 3 up front.

Don't think Wilders fussed about keeping anyone.

You're either with him and buy in to it or..........

I think that goes for everyone, no matter how good you are.

The Beard grasped us, took us on board, became one of us.

Yes he was away last season but that was an aftermath of Adtkins.

He'd fit in perfectly with Wilders mob now.

I think you need to listen to the whole interview to understand how Wilder framed his targets.

He did say:
he wanted a squad of 23, 24
he said he wanted 1 maybe 2 centre halves, a midfielder, 2 wingers

He then went on, when asked about Stevens, to say if any of the listed players went they'd have to be replaced.

That clearly means, given Hussey, Wilson and Done are listed that he'll bring in a left back, another centre half and a striker.

Which means:
2 or 3 centre halves
left back
midfielder
2 wingers
striker

Whilst Brayford is in the 24, he is clearly happy to move him on and get more value for munneh.

To me his squad read:

G (2) Moore, Long
DR (2) Freeman, Brayford (replaced if sold)
DR (2) Lafferty, Hussey (replaced by Stevens and sold, interest already)
DC (5 or 6) Basham, Wright, O'Connor, New CB, New CB (possibly EEL), Wilson (replaced if sold, interest already)
MC (4) Fleck, Coutts, Carruthers, New CM
AM (2) Duffy, O'Shea (or other if rejects deal)
Winger (2)
CF (6) Sharp, Clarke, Evans, Hanson, Lavery, Done (replaced if sold, interest already)

Your 23 or 24 depends how many centre backs and perhaps the versatility of one to play right back if Brayford leaves.

Reed and Whiteman certain to go on loan. He mentioned Whiteman to League One.

Could be as many as 10 new faces if O'Shea says no and Brayford leaves as few as 7 if Brayford stays, O'Shea stays and he decideds a 6th centre half isn't needed.

Though he also said he'd keep sone money aside in case when they got back in training he felt they were still light. He mentioned some of the best deals - EEL, Lafferty - were done in August.

I guess the truth is we just don't know whether he fits in or not with Wilder, or the players, unless we know them personally. Obviously we can go on what we see on the pitch and Wilder allowing him to leave I think was a decision took on what Wilder saw at the time, which was an out of sort Brayford on large wages, then Clough comes calling and it probably just suited all parties. That's how it appears from the outside. I din't get the impression that Wilder is desperate to have Brayford back, or I would have thought he would have said so today.

For me it's the spine where we need to bring in the quality. Be that spending big, or on 4 premiership loans. A keeper, CB, DM & a CF. I'd also snap up the best frees from our league. I'd definitely bring in Tom Elliott on a free from Wimbledon and let Hanson go, because he's a younger better version of Hanson. George Baldock on a free to give Freeman a run for his money. Looks like Stevens is a done deal as well, which is just as well because Lafferty is the most glaring weak link for me.

A manager who inspires total confidence.
With Chris at the helm the future is looking good.

"CW wants a squad of 24. Adding he wants 2 centre backs, 1 midfielder, and 2 wingers".

But not another striker ? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

The two wingers are interesting. One would give us variety and a different approach, as needed, depending on circumstances. Two suggests he might be considering playing with wingers as a preferred option. Which in turn might imply a flat 4 at the back ?

Get good wingers with accurate good crosses into the box and any of our forwards will score . We have a variation on a theme. Think we will mix it up depending who we are playing .

Also the wingers will be expected to score , take good corners , and add width , speed .

Again it could be 3 at the back or flat back 4 . Certainly ain't boring , rigid or stuck for ideas .

Could give any team a run for there money , also depends who comes in .

Sounds like O'Shea might be dicking us around a bit, perhaps not happy with the wage?
He looks a decent player but let him go elsewhere if he isn't completely sure.
He lapped up the celebrations as much as anyone; yes he played his part at times but wasn't hugely significant in my opinion and he should be very grateful we have offered him a chance in the Championship.

Northampton fans advised us it would be 4-2-31-1 under Wilder, but that only brought in 99 points hence the move to 3-5-2. Perhaps he's thinking of a formation to reach 101 points

interesting interview.

It doesn't look like were going to show too much ambition spending wise for a while. Which I'm a bit surprised about. Now I'm not against slow building without breaking the bank but if were not having ambition in spending then we need to have ambition in retaining our best players. It's the only way we will progress. We should only consider ridiculas offers and then it should be re invested.

We've not had the best history with this so hopefully Chris will be the decider.
