Think the point is they dont want to play or put the effort in and dont want to try and get a move anywhere so its hard to move them on....

It's you.

He's implying certain players aren't bothered about playing for this club but are still difficult to move on. Most likely because they ain't gonna get as sweet a deal elsewhere, so it's a struggle to get the terms right.
I see.

Is it me or does this make no sense?

If a player wants to play and is surplus to requirements where they are, surely this makes it easier to move them on.
Shouldn`t make sense, but unfortunately some footballers quite like picking up good money, without the hassle of actually having to play games.

If people like Hammond dig their heels in, it will be a very lucrative 12 months for him, compared with work done.

Some Wilder comments in addition to those in the Giddings tweets.

Hammond – was brought in

  • Common knowledge I've been brought in to manage the wage bill – comfortable with that
  • Karl and I in contact with players and their agents with the view to move them on.
  • Billy Bash Bray Done named that he's keen to build around plus young academy players (Adams not mentioned...)
  • Wants fit hungry athletic players that want to achieve
  • Lot of diamonds that people have got from premier league clubs but the attitude's key.
  • "A couple of telephone calls" on some of the listed players. No mention of whether they were prank calls.
  • Announced soon on the scout role – wants to
  • On Long, if he signs great, if he doesn't he's not going to hold a gun against any player to make them stay. Have to work within the budget: "If players want to go up the road for £500 more then I'll drive them up there"
  • Likes Scougall and McNulty. Scougs fits into style but needs to come back fit and keen. Wants good look at both

More on George in this video. I like how certain he is on the players having to want to be at the club. He's not saying it because it's what we want to hear - He's saying it because he believes in it. That's half the battle. If he gets players in that buys into / shares his mentality, we will do fine.

I like Wilders no nonsense approach. Say it as it is

You're either with us, or agin us

Mek em av it Chris :D

""A couple of telephone calls" on some of the listed players. No mention of whether they were prank calls."

If the calls were to show interest in Hammond, I would suggest they were! :D

"Looking for someone else other than Hammond"

"Received interest in several transfer listed players"

Clear, decisive and direct regarding Long.

"Well down the line with signings"

What a brilliant, promising, direct interview. A real breath of fresh air.

Dripping like gism....

Posted without completing the bit on Hammond – what I meant to say was that Wilder very clearly said he had been brought in with the previous manager's style of play in mind and that he was looking for something different. This seems to remove all possibility of Hammond being able to work his way back in.

It was a good clear & direct interview.

Probably thought we were selling a Hammond Organ or something.

If we can play like he can talk, we might just be onto something.

One slightly concerning note:

When Giddings asked him how many he wanted to bring in, Chris seemed a bit uncharacteristically waffly, ending up with him saying "a couple"...

I know you're meant to be managing the budget, Chris but FFS!!

P.S. Chuffed about that core he said he'll be building around: Billy, Beard, Basham, Done. Says at lot about the battling, hard running qualities to be expected. All Heart on the Sleeve players.

Maybe the vagueness might be down to the contract expectaions of the targets?

It's given me 7 years of service and never missed a beat. Once, Mrs Bon knocked its lip on the tap, giving it a nasty chip. Instead of just laying about in the under-sink cupboard for months on injured reserve it said 'Boss, I'm fine, it's only a flesh wound. Get that water in me and find the biggest bunch of flowers you can. I'm going out there and no one can stop me'.

And then it fell apart in her hands so yes, it is.

BJ the vase did not speak to you, we've discussed this before!

Why would he give a number when people still go on about Cloughie saying 'a squad of around 20' and the weekly threads micro-analysing Adkins' utterances?
People keep saying he knows the club so he'll know not to say anything that might come back to haunt him later.
