Throughout my sporting life I had spells playing in goal, (offered terms at Newcastle as a lad but preferred playing out) & never wore gloves, until after a good few years I had a spell keeping in the early 2000's & found that the modern day gloves were a revelation, I found them to be superb, in fact when I see pro 'keepers spill one or punch instead of catch, it is a real head scratch moment because everything just sticks to them, they really are brilliant.I’ve often wondered whether modern goalkeepers gloves are sometimes more of a hindrance than a help , particularly when it comes to catching the ball .
As I remember it , when they first started to be used on a regular basis , they were of the type referred to at the time as ‘driving gloves’ which had a soft leather palm and aerated fabric backing . I can see that being an advantage over bare hands but as for the latest breed which look more like the things a wicketkeeper would wear, I’m not so sure .

I look on the modern gloves like the webbing between thumb and forefinger of wicketkeepers gloves, a bit of cheating going on there.
Regards Ramsdale, its the link between his brain and his feet I feel is the main problem.
