Cant believe some of the shit being spouted by a section of Unitedites on Radio Wednesday this evening while on our way back from Scunthorpe.
"Dave" started it off with a massive grumble about our lack of passion today. He followed this up with some well informed advice to DW by telling him "to get it sorted Wilson and if you cant, then leave".
Then we had a couple more Blades jumping on the "Lack of Passion" bandwagon, one pearl of wisdom which stuck in my mind was the suggestion that "Danny Wilson shouldn`t wear a suit on the touchline, he should wear a tracksuit and show more passion". Honestly, this is true.
Now I acknowledge that everyone is entitled to their opinion, so here`s mine: Stop calling Praise & Grumble lads, cos you havent got a fucking clue what you are talking about!!
Down to ten men after 15 mins(no arguments with that one), a goal down after an hour courtesy of the ex-Pig, then down to nine men with a dubious sending off.
So it`s the Sheffield nine versus the Scunny twelve (let`s face it, the referee was their best player today) and it dont look good.
Two seasons ago, we`d have gone on to lose such a game by two or three goals, but no, not this one. Collins hits the bar, then sends the place mental with a peach of a goal.
Now it wasn`t the best game i`ve seen and we played awful for a good deal of it. Nevertheless, I always thought we`d nick one against the twelve men we were up against, perhaps if we`d have shown more passion, we may have won it.
So you blokes who called Radio Wednesday with your incredible and misguided views, take your comments and shove em up your arse................with some passion.

Heard it as we were going down the m18.

Just reminded me why I'm glad most away matches are far too far away to listen in on the way home :)

Gutted I missed this one. Gutted. Nowt like a last minute goal to win or save the game. I bet it was a great atmosphere at the end.

Was a quality celebration, really hope we get a good replay of it :)

Referee was very very lucky most who were on the pitch were more interested in jumping about like lunatics instead of heading for him.

I thought the ref was crap, but my first reaction to both incidents was "they're off". Doyle's looked like nothing, but was a daft kick in front of the ref(?)

UTB

These morons , who deride us when we are 20% light in the numbers department are mental
A point with 13 men at Scunthorpe with our record there is welcome

He was piss poor all match though even taking away the red cards, Doyle's I'll have to see the replay on, but Flynn's in real time was a booking at worst.

What you always tend to find is most idiots who ring up praise and grumble haven't been to the match.

Didn't see Doyle's sending off as we were in the corner but Flynn's challenge was right in front of us and at normal speed it did look reckless and a sending off but I'd like to see it again.

We were in the bottom right corner of the stand behind the net. I knew he was going as the ref instantly hovered over his back pocket... But it's the sort of "challenge" you wouldn't normally have a go at the player for making... ball there to be won, eyes on it all the way and the man ducked into it. Yellow at most real time :)

Might re-assess on the replay.

Yep, I'd like to see them again as if they aren't legit, we've been cheated because we'd have won the game with 11.

With you on this but there was a very good caller called John who set the record straight. Not least how difficult it is to play in 27 degrees heat with 9 / 10 men.

Quality celebration when we scored, I'll be gutted if I'm not on telly tonight :).

I didn't encroach by the way

Saw both sending off incidents on Sky Sports and I dont think we would win our appeals cos Doyle's first challenge was fairish but he did stamp on the Scunny player's face just afterwards (dont think it was intentional though). Flynn might have been challenging for the ball but it was a high and reckless "karate kick". The FA will support the ref's decisions because the tv footage have not showed any proof that Doyle didnt stamp on the face of the Scunthorpe player and no proof of Flynn's foot or feet that didnt make contact on the player he was challenging. I think SUFC will look at the footage and decide not to appeal

When will fans learn not to go on the pitch? In stead of paying the fine, everyone who went on should be made to split the cost between them. That will make them think twice about going on

Indeed. I also sometimes think the we get an influx of new supporters regularly who have absolutely no idea how the stewarding and policing in British football works.

The number of times I've seen Blades goad stewards/coppers who can be surprisingly lenient (rather than those who are without a doubt little Hitlers) and then moan when they get dragged out of the ground.

Neither player will get their card rescinded. Doyle clearly takes a stamp at the guy's face, and Flynn's challenge, while he may not have made contact was certainly high enough and dangerous enough to be described as reckless. He simply flew in under no control of himself. Can understand the ref sending both off, and the FA will stick by the decisions.

Doyle's card cost us the chance of the win it was so soon in the match. He should know better. He has been a bit off it at the start of this season, anyone know what's up with him?

I thought Doyle stumbled after he'd made the challenge and accidentally stamped on him but I will be interested to see it again. Flynn was both reckless and dangerous and had he made contact he could have done some serious damage. Red card all day in my view.

I think you might be correct about Flynn, but wasn't the Scunthorpe player challenging in exactly the same way? I.e. with feet off the ground?
There were also numerous other incidents, often off the ball, where United players were being 'taken out' which all went unpunished. Quite a few of these looked like potential red cards too!

I think Flynn's foot was so high and they were both running at speed is what made it so much worse. The thing that really pissed me off wasn't the reds we received but was the ones they should have. There was a high foot in the first half albeit not as high but he really caught Hill I think it was. Also the one where Blackman was clean through and was blocked off the Scunny guy had no intention of getting the ball.

Also there was a tackle from KMac where he caught a guy on the shins with his studs up and got nowhere near the ball and the ref waved play on. But by then the ref had lost complete control of the game anyway and didn't have a clue what he was doing.

It seemed to be happening a lot where Scunthorpe players were committing cynical fouls. In injury time I remember Blackman running with about 4 defenders around him and still they managed to foul him despite him going nowhere. I feel for Scunthorpe if there defenders feel the need to make a challenge like that. I did like it though when we had a corner and that Canavan kept pushing Maguire and Harry was just laughing at him. Inevitably though they got the free-kick as always in those situations.

An extra point I forgot to make too was if you thought there was a lack of passion then you obviously didn't see the reaction of Collins and Maguire after we scored especially Harry. Ran straight over to the fans celebrating as wildly as we were. Just shows they were as frustrated as we were with some incidents in the game.

Also Blackman and Cofie coming over to the fans at the end. The latter getting a massive kiss from one of the Blades down the front. All I can say is I hope he don't treat his wife like that.:D

Just saw both challenges on the Football League Show. Neither looked clever. Doyle's looked dirty, Flynn's was foolish given the ref had already set his level for what he'd give a red card for (albeit inconsistently based on reports). Neither should be appealed, both are presumably out for 3 games each.

It would be idiotic for the club to appeal these. Stupid challenges, they know the rules.

So the loan market .......

Yeah, obviously we only get the one angle on TV but both looked nailed on reds. Doyle's might have been unintentional I guess, but Flynn was just moronic.

So Flynn goes in with a high challenge and the Scunny player hits the deck. Nowt new there then, but on this occasion the ref takes a minute, sees that the lad isn't dead or mortally wounded...................and still brandishes the red card. Chuff me, there are mistimed tackles galore and there are niggly incidents all over the place but come on, if there's no serious damage, or even minor damange done then why the red card? Terrible decision, and coupled with the fact that we were already down to ten men then it really could have killed us, as well as spoil the game completely for the paying spectators.

As it was, and I'm one of our biggest critics right now, it was a real barnstormer that got us a point today. You can't help but praise the fighting spirit and never say die attitude and it's refreshing to see that we have that in our locker.

Worrying that we were hardly battering a winless team, missing their best players and low on confidence even before the sendings off but there you go. We aren't that great, in fact this squad has me worried all over the pitch, but winning a point from an almost lost cause was something that should give us at least some hope when things get tougher than today.

You have to worry about the goal we conceded, another cross from the left of our defence to the edge of the six yard box and again Collins, Maguire and the keeper are nowhere near it. The reality is we should be nailing teams like this, we have dropped points in all our away games against teams lower than 18th in league one which is worrying. Passion, fight, team spirit call it what you want will not get us very far if we don't stamp out the sloppy defending.

I've just watched and replayed a few times the Doyle sending off. Absolutely disgraceful decision - Doyle DID NOT stamp on the player. The ref sent him off for stamping but he was at least 2 feet away from the player. If we don't appeal this I shall be very surprised.

We do seem to concede alot of goals from crosses that fall "inbetween" Maguire and Collins.

I haven't seen any of these on replays but my initial reaction was a red card for Doyle if he stamped/attempted to stamp on the player. It's irrelevant whether he made contact or not. Will have to wait until I see it on TV though.

Flynn was a yellow card. It was a clear challenge for the ball but because it was reckless it's a yellow card. The general rule is:

Careless: Foul and no card
Reckless: Foul and yellow card
Excessive Force: Foul and red card

His foot was high but he wasn't late, it was just at really high speed so it probably looked worse than it was.

As for the performance, we weren't great early on but it's the usual case away from home in the first 15 minutes. Soak up early pressure then look to take control if you can. After you've had a player sent off it's difficult to judge a performance, especially when it's as hot as it was yesterday. The fact is that we managed to rescue a point when we had 9 men on the pitch, and that's so encouraging regardless of how we performed and who it was against. A win next weekend against Bury would put us in an excellent position early on in the season.
