That’s now 3 hours without scoring or even looking like scoring, this worries me going into the playoffs (sorry but that’s where I think we will be now)
Against Forest and Burnley we continued with the aerial bombardment when it was obvious it wasn’t working and that the central defenders in both cases were coping easily with it.
Anyone else think we are clueless if plan A doesn’t work?

The thing is against Forest, our creative threat in Cotterill wasn't working either.

It's at times like these when you need an experienced head to put their foot on the ball and look up. We need a Stuart McCall/Gary Speed type figure and perhaps it's time that Hendrie grew up and fulfilled this role.

Can't disagree with that, but was it because he was also looking for the head of Hendo? Its at time like this you need to go along the floor with speed and accuracy, big defenders hate pace don't they? Lupolli and Ward on and fine anyone that plays a high ball!!!!!

Wingers!!!!

It doesn't take a genius to work out what the gameplan is when you see the kind of team that we put out yesterday.

3 big men up front, although whether they were actually up front is debatable, and three "destroyers" in midfield with very little pace or passing ability amongst them.

For the vast majority of this season we have played very direct football and it has proved to be successful in terms of results so one cannot really argue on that front. I wouldn't expect things to change between now and the end of the season and if anything i expect us to be even more direct simply because there is so much at stake.

I've spent 5 years wishing for a midfield that can play the ball around but that simply is not the way Kevin Blackwell is setting up his team to play. What he is doing is getting the results so while ever this is the case i think he deserves our support regardless.

Maybe the strong, direct football works against the poorer sides in the division, but is shown up against the better sides?

This could also explain the poor playoff record?

And yet we are well above teams like Reading, Swansea and Donny who play the best football in the league if we believe what we are told.

I too want to be entertained as much as anyone but you can see why entertaining the fans comes second to getting 3 points.

Aside from Reading (who look to have some rather more serious problems), they've hardly got the same standard of players at their disposal.

I blame Channel Four for putting 'Football Italia' on our screens every Sunday in the late 80s/early 90s.

All of a sudden the Micky Quinns had to become Roberto Baggios :D

We've had a creativity problem ever since I started watching United. Even the most gifted (if somewhat temperamental) player of my generation never got a real chance to shine (Glyn Hodges, since you ask ;)) due to our style.
