What we thinking? Need to move one or two on before we get one in? Something agreed in principle but parent club wants them to spend pre-season with them? (Brewster loan)

seems pretty quiet so far.

Brewster has just tweeted about going back to Liverpool, but who knows.

I think our Premiership Loan might be used on a striker this year and if that's the case it makes even more sense keeping our targets quiet

I would guess we've got someone we really want and is achievable so we're not letting it slip, which tbf is working

Or we are making all the noise about other players, Ramsdale, Antonee, etc to grab the attention of the media so we can try and find a decent striker under the radar that doesn’t get poached by someone else seeing as the fashion at the moment seems to be let’s try and get whoever wilder is looking at

I was saying to my mate last night all the players we have been linked closely with or made bids for have been defensive / wing back options nothing like a creative midfielder or striker which is where we need to improve

I think ’we’ can keep quiet but agents won’t. Think they even make stuff up to get rumours and bidding wars going. If we’ve approached a club/players it will come out.
That said it’s a bit worrying there very little chatter this TW

My self, I'm not too worried about the lack of striker rumours. Knowing Wilder, he will have one or two lined up that none of us will have considered.

Also not having having anything in the media might be a good thing, as it stops other clubs trying to hijack any potential signings.

Liverpool will drag the Brewster situation on until well after the transfer window closes
They always do ,then they will probably dit him in the u23's till han and then loan him out

Linked quite heavily with Watkins; although I think that's very very unlikely given the figures bandied around.

I can see us bringing in someone like Toney in all honesty.

In fairness we spent big up front last season - Robinson, Mousse and McBurnie. The latter two showing at times that when in form they can really fit our system.

If we’re committing nearly £20m on a keeper, even if it’s over the long term, then realistically are we going to throw bigger money at another striker?

I’d guess that there will be some outgoings before we buy, even with our small squad, we still have to be cautious..

All that said, it wouldn’t surprise me if we went for a young prospect and got a £20m striker with pace as well... nothing surprises me anymore as we keep progressing

Wilder will actually be encouraging some of this media speculation, as a cover for buying players he really wants. Leave the experts to it I say. Not done too bad so far.

As an aside, I posted elsewhere that, having sorted an excellent defence for last season, this time around he will be plugging any obvious gaps there, then concentrating on midfield.

Next year if we are still inthe PL, it will be strikers in the cross hairs. Wilder will now prove me a twat by signing Gareth Bale on a free. 😉

What happened to that rumour I started about... can't even remember his name without looking it up anyway it's been so quiet there must be something in it. Anyway I'm expecting the men in black any minute now I've repeated it.

Just a hunch and absolutely no evidence or knowledge to back it up but I think Dennis will be the one they're targeting for lots of reasons - his personal traits and attributes being a good match with the current gaps in the squad, the Belgian connections, price, availability etc.

I've seen very little posts about him but have heard rumours and a quick wiki search offers very little.
Is he good? His goal scoring record seems solely based on those 2 goals he got vs Madrid (was it?)

I may be in the minority here, and whilst I think there is room for another body, I think there's plenty more goals in our current stable if we create better chances for them with higher frequency.

You're not alone in that. I also think there is a lot of improvement left in McBurnie & Mousset if they want it enough.

We need to be able to control play better in the final third & allow our strikers to do their thing - that being, getting into the box to convert.
As it is, we're either playing too direct (bypassing the midfield) and therefore requiring our strikers to be outside of the box, playing with backs to goal.. or - with McGoldrick on the field, we're playing on the deck, between the lines, but with McGoldrick too involved in the buildup and not close enough to goal.

Either way, if we continue to surrender possession and go long as often as we do we're really going to struggle creatively. Ideally, we need our wide midfielders / wing backs to eat into the McGoldrick role to allow us to play with two orthodox strikers...

The above is why I can see Wilder's desire to bring in young wing backs like A Robinson & Matty Cash, capable of improving, but who are already rapid and able to carry a ball forwards into dangerous areas.

Had we gone for Foster on a free rather then Ramsdale we could be in the market for a £40m striker

I agree with Mouth, I think Dennis is the one we are targeting, young, very quick, in our price bracket and playing in a country where we have contacts and previous

Honest answer is I don't know. From the bits I've seen he looks quick and mobile (which are both somewhat lacking in Utd's current strike force) but, like you, I suspect a lot of people's views are based on his two goals against Madrid, both of which looked dead jammy to me :)

no we need quality

The thing working against Dennis is that he was rumoured by a forum itk. Doesn’t bode well.

Brewster it seems like we’re definitely keen on but Klopp will wait to make a decision and right now would prefer to hold on to him.

The Josh King and Ollie Watkins links make sense but I think we’ll be priced out of both.

Karlan Grant maybe..

We’re not creative enough, so there’s little to be gained in spending £20m on another striker if our quality chance creation remains low (IMO). Unless we bring in someone capable of creating for themselves that is, but I think that type of player is beyond our budget.

Foster has 2 years left on his contract and certainly wouldn't be free. £6m is being rumoured with a couple of Prem clubs apparently circling - certainly a lot (too much!?!?) for a 38 year old with no residual value.

Also, Ramsdale isn't costing anywhere near the reported £18m and even if that amount was instead funneled to buying a striker, have you considered the likely salary demands of a £40m striker?

Plus if we get £5-6m for Lunny and money off Marty Cash in a player exchange then it leaves a good chunk of change left. Also If we win the Robinson race, we’re getting a player for a good £8-12m below market value.
