12 goals in a season is not a brilliant strike rate but it’s not abysmal for a second striker whose primary role is to be the target man and bring others into the game.
You say it won’t get you promoted but the second top scoring strikers of Charlton, Wednesday and Huddersfield had 12, 12 and 13 goals respectively last season.
It’s quite rare for United to have two strikers scoring more than 10 goals each. I would guess it’s only happened once or twice in the last 20 years.
Go, on then:
Last 20 years, strikers only, league goals only:
94-95: Blake 17, Veart 11
96-97: Katchuoro 12, Walker 12, Taylor 11, Fjortoft 10
97-98 Deane 11, Taylor 10, Saunders 10
99-00 Bent 15, Smith 10
09-10 Cresswell 12, Henderson 12
(and possibly 05-06 Shipperley 11, Webber 10, depending on whether you give teh 2nd at Burnley to Webber or Morgan)
So thats 5 (or 6) times in 20 years
