Wilder doesn't like to change squad numbers does he?

Lundstram shouldn't be 7.

I see Lavery hasn't got a number, he was 22 previously. This must mean he's off.

I'd be miffed I was Moore like, especially as Henderson is in on loan.

Especially as he was #1 last season.

Guess they don’t really mean anything anymore though - Lundstram 7 and Egan 12 for example.

I like that 25 has somehow just become a keeper number for us.

Nothing at all surprising about these (apart from how badly that graphic is laid out) as the numbers are given out at the start of pre-season and Lavery has been harshly numberless throughout, wearing 12 in pre-season games until the other day when Egan took it.

Same thing happened with Done last summer when he never got to wear 11 in pre-season even though it hadn't been given to anyone else. Also just like last summer a few more players will get numbers a couple of days into the season anyway when we play in the League Cup, even Brayford ended up having one briefly. Although Wilder doesn't change numbers much, Brooks would have been 11 if he'd stayed.

As we don’t have wingers don’t see why 7 isn’t ok for Lunny. Although perhaps we should have retired the shirt after Woodward. As for Egan, 4 5 and 6 are taken so 12 is not too objectionable. I think CW has treated number system with respect on the whole, nothing too gruesome like Beattie 6 which still makes me shudder.

True, but I still think (personally) that 1-11 are THE numbers that players should covet.

Not quite getting it with Lavery. My eyes must work differently to most as I think he's quite a decent player.

He's quick, nifty and works hard but he's a striker and he doesn't score many goals in competitive games and never has done during his career. I said it on another thread, I think he needs to go somewhere and absolutely tear the league a new one and get used to scoring and then he really would be a good player, think he's got it in him but he needs the confidence.

Duffy should be 7.

I respectfully disagree, I think Lundstram will have a bigger impact this season than Duffy. Of course the shirt number makes no difference in that regard but if we’re going on 1-11 being the players that start, 7 for Lundstram is fair.

I would have completely agreed until I spoke to a very good source at Rotherham yesterday. He’s says he’s got talent and promise, but he never gives his all in training and let’s himself down.

I'm sorry but Lundstram isn't half the player Duffy is.

If a player has a number he shouldn’t be forced to relinquish it, it just sends the wrong message e.g. you’re not part of the manager’s long term plans, you’ve been replaced, you’re being sold soon, you’re nothing but a squad player etc.

It’s not worth messing with numbers just so certain players can have the perceived best numbers.

One exception to that are real superstar player, I’m ok with them forcing a change.

Wilder is respectful of the numbering system, ensuring noone has anything too ludicrous. That said, certain players have preferences which he seems to respect: Freeman 18, Coutts 15, Lafferty 24 and now Moore, who I reckon has reverted back to 25, which he's used in the past.
