Sunderland new boy Matt Kilgallon wins his debut for the Black Cats at Everton tomorrow.
But the bad news for Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is that Michael Turner misses the trip to Goodison Park with a knee injury.
Turner damaged knee ligaments in Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Portsmouth and is now being assessed by the club's medical staff.
Bruce said: "There is light at the end of the tunnel with our injuries, but it's definitely a blow to lose Michael. He tweaked his knee ligament in a block tackle on Saturday. We don't think it's too serious so hopefully it will only be a couple of weeks for him.
"Matt Kilgallon has only trained with us once, so it's not ideal but he
will play tomorrow."
Phil Bardsley is also set to miss the Everton game after suffering a hamstring strain at Portsmouth. It forces another unwanted defensive change on his manager, who is desperate to have a settled back four in place.
Bruce said: "I think one our biggest problems is that I have played something like 12 different back fours in 21 games and there lies our problem as far as I'm concerned.
"We're not settled there at all and the most important thing for me is to get a back four in place and stick with it."
Lee Cattermole will make his return.
Bruce said: "Catts will play. He trained all last week but came in on Friday and felt a bit sore so we didn't risk him at Portsmouth. He's been fine this week and that's certainly a big bonus to have him back into our midfield."
Nyron Nosworthy and John Mensah are both also in contention for tomorrow.
Bruce will think carefully about whether to include Kenwyne Jones, who he feels has been unsettled by persistent rumours about Liverpool's interest in him
