Kilgallon latest - hold onto your hats

To be perfectly honest, I rule nothing out.

The accounts are far from easy to understand as to whether they're serious or not. On one hand you have the doommongers amongst Blades and scaremongers amongst Pigs claiming we're in financial peril and the PLC and footballing debts are synonymous. On the other, there are personnel at SUFC and various financially minded Blades claiming it's nothing to worry about and despite the need to cover the shortfall, we're in adequate financial health.

I think there is a need for McCabe et al to reassure SUFC supporters and he recognises this... if he doesn't, then season tickets will drop through the floor should the likely stay in the Championship occur. A million pound signing of an exciting player will cover the disappointment from the Killa sale and will hopefully ignite a bit of optimism amongst us lot.

I'm obviously looking at this hopefully, but y'never know and we've made bigger signings when in deeper financial straits, so I'm not ruling it out now.

I think Season Ticket numbers have been inflated and they were bound to drop off at some point.

Killa turns down Burnley move

Matt Kilgallon has turned down the chance to join Burnley and be Brian Laws first signing according to sky sports news

Killa rejects Burnley move

Skysports.com understands Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon has turned down the opportunity of a move to Burnley.

Kigallon's future at Bramall Lane has been the source of much speculation with his contract due to expire at the end of the season.

His agent revealed last week that the former Leeds United stopper was committed to the Blades until the end of the season and that suitors Newcastle United had been informed of the situation.

However, it is understood that Burnley made an offer of £1.75million for the 25-year-old, which was accepted by the Blades.

Kilgallon was given permission to hold talks over a move to Turf Moor on Tuesday night, but he has opted to reject Burnley's bid.

He has now gone back to Bramall Lane, where Blades boss Kevin Blackwell has previously stated he would look to reinvest any funds generated from Kilgallon's January departure.

I bet Mr McCabe is seething!

He want to see £1.75m snatched out of his hand, knowing full well Killa walks for nowt in a few months. It's not the sort of money we can afford to turn down in our position surely?

I would have snatched their hands off (I think £2 -£3 million is a good price if he's got a few years left on his contract, let alone 6 months), mind you not sure how well the White Range Rover would have gone down in back-end-of-beyond Burrrrrrrrrrrrrnley. :D:rolleyes:

Ive started to think that myself. Lets just say Killa goes and we get our two targets - I would go with this team;

GK - Bunn (Paddy when he returns)
RB - Naughton
CB - Walker
CB - Morgan
LB - Naysmith
RW - Ward
CM - Williamson
CM - Harper
LW - McSheffrey
ST - Henderson
ST - Camara

With the obvious candidates on the bench that team (albeit staying free from injury) would get a playoff place. Walker could play centre back quite well for me and has done before when on loan at Northampton. If not just play Seip and no one misses Killa.

Picks itself IMO.

Does anyone know what the situation is with Walker and Harper? They were both on loan until January and I haven't heard any reports about Walker's loan being extended or Harper's signing made permanent.

If both are still loanees, the above team contains FIVE loan players and I doubt if Seip has been signed to not even feature on the bench. We would also run in to the same old problem of not being able to bring in any more loan players in an injury crisis.

I personally wish he'd fuck off. It may not be a popular view, but it's slowly becoming clear this is about cash. I've always had a lot of time for Killa, but this is beginning to cloud my view of him.

I was under the impression that they were both on loan until the end of the season.

I can see both sides. From United's point of view he either needs to sign a new contract or as you say 'fuck off', I doubt it will be 1.75 million in full but the fact is, any deal which may come to 1.75 million for a player of Kilgallon's abilities (lets no get confused, he's no Beckenbauer, or Jagielka) with a few months left to run is a fantastic deal for SUFC and in my opinion if all monies is invested into the team could make us stronger as a squad.

On Killa's side, I don't blame him for turning down Burnley who I think will fall like a brick now Coyle has left. From his point of view, he is contracted with SUFC till the summer and unless a club takes his fancy he is well within his rights to wait till the summer to see what's available, who knows he may re-sign for us.

Paves the way for a lower bid/higher wages pacakge from Newcastle though doesn't it?

Delighted he's turned them down, i would find it far too depressing to lose our (arguably) best player to the likes of mighty Burnley.

Maybe, just maybe, Killa is actually quite fond of the club and will sign a new deal at the end of the season if when we get promoted.

I just nearly choked on my biccie!

Positive thinking......it's not what is going to happen, not unless he gets 28k

Newcastle have clearly got into his head and he wants to move there. He's going to sit out his contract and sign for them in the summer - I think that's quite apparent. The only thing that will change that is if Newcastle match Burnley's bid but they aren't as desperate as Burnley so I can't see it.

If Killa puts in a shift for the rest of the season and helps us push for promotion then he can go with my blessing - he's been a good servant and should be playing at a higher level. The thing that is pissing me off is that Newcastle are clearly getting into the heads of players contracted to other clubs before making an official approach....

That is tantamount to you know what.....im not saying it.....

killa is thinking about killa...... whats wrong with that ?

Unless this is just a bit of short-term haggling to push up his wages or signing-on fee, I suggest there's a lot wrong with it.

If he's planning to hold out until the eleventh hour then it will put this club in a difficult position to sign a replacement. This is the club that has paid has wages for the past few years and looked after him pretty well. We are the fans that have supported him. We deserve better. He's just taking the piss - which sadly is what a lot of footballers do these days.

I hope he falls flat on his face after he leaves the Blades.

Not suprised at all, he's better than that sinking ship...........

I still think he will go before the end of the window though

Rumours are of Everton making a move in the Summer, doubling his wages in the process. A far better move than Geordieland I would have thought.

you dont think the classic 'his replacement is already at the club' line wont be trotted out if he does go, come mid february...?? (siep)

If that turns out to be true then I would agree with you. Jags and Killa at centre half..... :D distant dreams eh?

Unless players are born and bred fans of a club (like Dane Whitehouse) it's only natural that they seek to play for the best possible club at the highest level. Anything else would be unambitious.

Footballers are vastly overpaid, but you can't blame the likes of Jamie Ward Paddy Kenny and Derek Geary for leaving Chesterfield, Bury and Stockport, and the same goes for the players that leave us.

Not sure I agree Lou. Like Jim I also heard that Everton are watchin him and thinking of signing him pre season. At the moment the world is his oyster.

Why would he commit to Burnley? Shit club, shit town, going down. He may as well stay with us!? Newcastle could have got in his head, but I doubt it. he's just waiting for the best option. He's probably hoping he can really impress between now and the summer and maybe even get a contract with Villa or Everton. He may have some (albeit small) connection to United and IF we were to get promoted he could stay with us.

Naturally he wants the best deal for Matthew Kilgallon. This involves:

- Money
- Premiership football
- The club

Unfortuantely Seip had a blinder last night. So i'm sure 'cheap as chips' and 'McCheap' will have this in mind when we accept the next offer. We got a good price, we already have an adequate replacement, ya de ya
