Adkins seems impressed, involving him a lot - as do I from what I've seen.

Looks a natural at centre half, not saying he's the answer but he's one to develop.
He's no worse than McEveley. Been well up for his headers, not shirked any challenges and has kept the basics going.

Would like to see him and McGahey loaned to league 2, both playing at centre half predominantly.
Have the makings of 2 very good players if they're nurtured correctly, but it's a position where right now we need ability and know-how. And preferably not McEveley.

Or Collins !!!

As young centre backs Wallace and McGahey could do worse than look how Morgan was marshalling the back line even though he was only the pitch for a few minutes - Collins is definitely past his sell by date (and has been for a while and McEverley is at best Cover CB)

You really will have Pinchy turning purple and throwing a wobbler with this!

MORGAN - BRINGIMBACK!

Last season Collins was the answer to our defensive problems, now he is back he is rubbish again. Very hard to keep up sometimes
He was only the answer in the eyes of the Anti-Clough brigade - to me and a lot like me he was a disaster waiting to happen! He is slow, ponderous with a turning circle similar to the QE 2 and bollocks everyone around him when he makes a mistake !
Also the fact that people were not watching him play forgot how poor he was ! and suddenly because he had fell out with Clough he became the Messiah in some peoples eyes !!!

He (Collins) was never the answer for anyone but he was the best or more like only centre back we had at the end of last season which just illustrates the shit job clough did. Don't let that get in the way of having a pop at others with opinions different to yourself, keep on spouting the same old shit of it's the fans fault, same owd same owd.

I'm unsure why Collins is getting it in the neck. Not seen any of the pre-season but, I know he gave away a pen, he seems to have been solid from reports? The criticism is that he's slow and immobile (which he always has been)? Surely most solid stoppers are and the trick is to bring someone quick to play next to them (ala Pemberton, Jags etc)?

The thing with Collins is, I believe he was carried by Maguire. Not the other way round like a number of us thought.
The game at Swindon was up there with the most inept defensive displays I've ever seen.

Decent back up, no way he should start all the time though.

The more time he was kept away the better he was in the fans eyes, mine included to be fair.
I do agree that Maguire really helped him, but he's much better than McEveley and at the side of a strong center half I still think he can do a job as more than just squad player

It worked both ways for me. Maguire helped him out in terms of covering etc Collins was there to be the consistent and experienced partner, helping with positioning and holding the line. I'd rather have 2 new CBs but see Collins as fairly solid next to a younger, faster partner.

If it was him and Harlee Dean I could probably cope

Pretty sure I've just read that Basham has to be moved back to defence too, when I could have sworn that last season moving him from midfield was madness. Apart from at the start of the season, when he was shit and we should have got rid.

i could swear we signed kieron as a midfielder didn't we never remember him being a defender
Kevin Phillips was a right back, Craig Short was a target man, sometimes kids find as they develop they're better at another role. I think he was a defensive midfielder who could also play as a left back or defensive minded wide midfielder.
Saw him on loan last season and wasn't impressed, he played midfield and didn't really get involved. CH might be a better role for him but I'll have to check how tall he is because I don't recall him being particularly big.

Edit: 6'1'' according to google. Bigger than I thought.

At Fleetwood Wallace was good in the centre of the park. Good with the ball and used it well.

Could imagine him being a good centre half at his height as he was brought up as a left back - he knows how to defend.

To be honest, if he wants to make it with us it would be very much in his interest to retrain as a centre-half or left-back. Otherwise he's on the list of midfielders we might be best trimming from the squad.

Very true
Centre half with his height would be a good option
