I like both of them. But I reckon youre right. Shame our left side is much poorer.
 
They should share the role between them next season. I think they'll both play a good number of games because they have different strengths and there's not a lot between them overall.

I'd look at trying them at LWB in pre season. See if either of them can cope well there.
 
We have plenty of excellent players who, as they have shown this season, can be relied upon in the majority of games to give a 7 out of 10 performance. What we are short of, however, is players who really affect the game; the players who deliver big moments which, in the main, means goals.

Losing Freeman has, therefore, been a big blow because he is one of our few genuinely 'effective' players. He does his day job but he also delivers those crucial extras. He invariably tries to get to the by-line when attacking rather than being tempted to sling in the early cross from 20 yards further back or, indeed, just turning back inside to pass responsibility to someone else, and when the opportunity arises, he finishes chances with the instinct of a striker.

I'm not going to name names, but we can all remember the draws that should have been wins this season, but weren't because in the crucial moment, the goal-scoring chances fell to good players who for whatever simply do not seem to have any instinct whatsoever to score goals.

Some players don't have it in their make-up. Freeman does.
 
He has missed so much of the season and we have missed him allot ( not saying baldock hasn't done well but as pointed out above freeman is better in the final 3rd and scores! )

With him and courts hopefully fully fit for the start of the season we have 2 big players back in the starting 11
 
Big miss losing Freeman for so long agree with the comments regarding him and Boldock.They do have different strengths,Boldock drives forward with the ball but flatters to deceive he will get better with experience.Freeman is far more effective as he comes forward late and Doasnt get picked up the way Boldock does and his finishing and final ball is better.There's more to come from both as there is from other players in our squad.
 
Personally, I think missing KF is as big a miss as Cooooooouuuuuuttttsss!
 
Surely not....only the little blue n white piggie wigs have had injuries which have had an affect on their season.....Or possibly they are full of shit, and whilst they have had their fair share, other teams have had their injury problems also.

United have had Coutts (main man in midfield), Freeman (top wing back), Brooks (game changer with potential), Stearman (main man at the back), & Billy (talisman) all out for chunks of the season .

For a team just promoted and in short supply of strength in depth (remember bacing no midfielders available away v Preston in Dec?), we have also done bloody well.

Our injuries apparently don't count though and aren't as season defining as their overpaid chumps (who strangely enough are all starting to get fit and prove their 'worth' just as the season is ending) and contracts and agents come into play....me a cynic...never ;)

I agree with your first point, Baldock has an unbelievable amount of energy, pacey and i'd say that he's the fittest player in the side.

However, a downside of this means that he can't do it for 46 games a season. I'd love to see Freeman and Baldock share that role and push each other.

Both bring benefits and both have negatives, Baldock can work on his end product (balls into strikers, shooting and getting into the box and supporting the strikers. Freeman, defensive duties.)

The left side is an issue, with the strikers we currently have we need to be creating more down that left side. Stevens looked good at times, but needed a break and perhaps (with hindsight) Lafferty coming into the side around December/ January might've benefited us in Feb, March and April.

One criticism of Wilder this season is that whilst he always plays his 'best 11', which probably sounds an odd thing to criticise him on. However, if we've learnt anything its that this division is tough, physically. He perhaps needs to look long term that rotating players is beneficial and not just rotating the strikers because they pick up knocks.
 



I have to admit I thought Freeman's influence was overstated but there's been a difference these last couple of games. He just needs to stay injury free.
 
Personally I prefer Freeman and I think baldocks stock is quite high we could get some money to invest in other areas
 
Baldock is a great understudy to Freeman. Will keep KF on his toes and will be available when there is injury BUT imho, it has to be Freeman as first choice but BOOM! What an understudy!
 
I’d probably count both Freeman and Baldock in our best 10 outfield players so it’s a shame they play in the same position. A combination of Baldocks defensive ability and work rate coupled with Freeman’s attaching aggression and goal/assist contribution would make one hell of a player - Baldman!
 
I wonder if Baldock could be converted to a right hand side of the three centre halves as he would be great bringing the ball out and trying to get forward. Freeman out wide, Baldock Stearman and OConnell in the middle wouldn't be too shabby (with Bash and Leonard duputising), and a new left wing back might do the trick next season.

If it worked we would be able to have the benefit of both Freeman and Baldock in the side and they could potentially switch during the game.if necessary or if one was tiring. A thought.

I think that’s definitely worth a go.
 
Having both Baldock and Freeman down the right side is a good thought but I'm not sure Baldock is good enough defending in central areas to be played RCB.
 
One on the left or freeman could probably be used further up field. The lads quality with the ball at his feet.
 
Please stop suggesting right footed players for left side positions. It doesn’t work.

Baldock has been a superb acquisition and thoroughly desrves to be first choice. Alternatively we can get carried away because Freeman scored a goal.

Freeman has played very well on the left before. Right-footer Denis Irwin didn't do a bad job at left back for Man Utd for years either. Limiting your options based on a player's favoured foot is an idiotic and over-simplistic way at looking at things.

Baldock creates relatively little and doesn't score goals. Thinking that the guy who does create things and does score should maybe play instead isn't getting carried away with him scoring, it's common sense. You should try it some time.

Thanks for that. Can you list the right-footers currently excelling at left-back for me?

I’m always anxious to learn from people whose favourite player is Stephen ‘Elpiton’ Quinn. They know their stuff. Me, I make do with Pele and Tony Currie.
 
Great problem to have. I think Baldock’s been great of late, slightly prefer him to Freeman
 



Baldock is a better player and looks much more comfortable with the ball.

Given Freeman is a bigger goal threat but I prefer my full backs to be able to defend.
