All this negativity and dissappointment boils down to the loss of Freeman and Coutts to long-term injuries. It's cost us a top 6 finish. Football success or failure is based on tight margins. Fingers crossed that Coutts comes back and shows us he can be the player he was. Freeman showed us that he can be the player he was in the last 15 minutes before he was subbed. How on earth fans expected him to show it as soon as he stepped back on the pitch is beyond comprehension. I thought his return was amazing considering the injury and time he was out of the game.

Amazing? Really?

Freeman looked good before his injury. I'm not sure when he's looked out of his depth

Freeman looked OK but he didn't seem to get forward as much as he did in League 1. Baldock gets forward then seems too scared at times to go into the penalty box or shoot.

Can't be too critical of Freeman though as he got injured early on with cracked ribs and then CCV thought it would be a good idea to finish him for the season.

I knew there was some other injury he was out with, forgot about the cracked ribs. He got forward plenty on Saturday and I can't recall there being too much difference in the way he played at the start of the season but it was a while ago.

He looked rusty on Saturday. I would have started with Baldock and brought Freeman on in the 2nd half perhaps.

Yes I thought so too, he also looked tired in the 2nd half. He still managed to get forward quite well and the very first thing he did was put a good cross into the box, which is something we've been complaining about for a while on here.

Personally I was glad that he gave Freeman a run out with little to play for. Baldock has put a lot of effort in recently so he must be tired. I would actually have liked to have seen a few more changes.

He is good at playing a dangerous low ball across the box. What surprised me though is neither Clarke or Sharp were on the end of any of them on Saturday. Sort of sums up how our season has faded away.

At the start of the season it always seemed to be one of them had an injury so the other would play, until Baldock got back fit after we had Basham playing that position. So you can't read too much into who Wilder picked to play at that time.

I like them both, but think I prefer Baldock. If one of them is comfortable on the left side I would like to see them both playing at same time. Didn't Freeman play LB when we had him on loan?

If Freeman and Baldock are both fit at season start and CW is manager - Freeman will start the season.

UTB

On Saturday, just before half time, something happened that I hadn't seen in some months from a wing back. Freeman had the ball and accelerated suddenly into the area, taking a shot which was blocked.

I like Baldock, and he gets into some good positions and works hard, but you do not see that sort of acceleration from him.
Freeman has a shorter 0-60 mph time I agree.

But football wise?

he'll get a telling off for that, he is supposed to go down the line, stop, turn back, pass then be offside..

or do I have our tactics wrong?

That's pretty much it! Although you could also add - stop, turn back, pass to a player in a much worse position who then puts in a pointless cross which is easily defended.
