I'm afraid my Blog from the Ipswich, Derby & Blackburn games doesn't really include any thoughts or details from those games. Instead, I decided to take a deep dive into my archives to recall the games I have seen Kieran Dowell play for England U20 & U21. I've actually seen Dowell lift two trophies - the U20 World Cup in Korea (he set up two goals in the opening game & scored to see us out of the Group stage) & the Maurice Revello Tournament in France (he scored the winner in the Final). I also take a look at his contemporaries from the first game I saw him play alongside Louis Reed, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Harry Chapman & Dean Henderson - where are they now. I also get a sideswipe at Deano who conceded a horrendous OG in Korea. And, a review of a new Brewery Tap in Attercliffe. It's Content - but not as we know it.

Will try and get to that brewery tap, never knew it was there.

I'm guessing, but maybe that's the third day it opened. They're still getting their plans together. Check opening times before setting off.....
You'll enjoy it. Simple, does what it says on the tin place

No wonder he's not getting a game as a Premier League footballer, where's the tattoos ? designer beard/stubble ? Diamond encrusted earring ?Evidence of severe weight training ?
This is no good, he just doesn't look the part at all

A work colleague who is an Everton fan said - "Who? Dowell???"

To be fair that's not uncommon in the premier I've found.

A Man Utd fan I spoke to when we announced Hendo had no idea who he was either.

Leaving a promotion winning SUFC under CWAK to join a mid table slog under Phillip Cocu at Derby must be like getting off Oblivion at Alton Towers and having a go on the Swan Boats.

Aye, but with his current attitude he'll be riding the trolleys in Tesco car park before long...

Well, he should have fucking showed it.

He's obviously got 'some' talent. He reminded me of Wayne Quinn, another bloke who, with the right attitude, would have been a fucking worldbeater. The goal he scored last year against West Brom was typical of him putting in a shift - if he could be fucking arsed. Trouble is, he's in with a group of players who are arsed - always. Winning, drawing, losing. It's what Wilder does. He's put fire in their bellies and belief in their hearts. He was up against a 33 year old CAM who by the end of the season only had sixty minutes of match in him and still couldn't impress. His showreel was full of deft flicks, going past people and whacking it in from distance. Saw none of that. All I saw was a player from the league above, playing one league above his ability.

To coin an earlier wonderful phrase, he was plopcarpet.

pommpey

There's certainly a capable player in there.
Has he got the mental hunger to succeed?

Obviously not a self-motivator and needed someone like Wilder/ Knill to get the best out of him. Shame that he'll end up at the bottom end of Championship or League one due to his own lack of motivation

Generated a decent song amongst pissed up Blades in that odd bar under the stand at Elland Road though?

And the goal at West Brom was worth the fractious train journey back to Kent after a 530 kick off.

Especially as there was something in the Stourbridge beer that made my guts explode every 30 minutes after 1800.

Question to my nephew in ten years time when he’s had his own Blades days. What’s worse? Your arse exploding at The Hawthorns after 35 minutes or on a train between Birmingham and Leamington??

I thought he looked good when brought on late to attack. I thought he tried hard for us. His problem was that he was competing against a team of total men, playing for their careers, who were all fit as butchers dogs and he couldn't keep up.

Good post, I think that’s spot on. I think our dressing room is probably a pretty unforgiving place for young men who are mostly used to the culture of Premier League youth teams. It’s full of guys in their late 20s and 30s who have been around the lower leagues and almost certainly don’t suffer fools gladly. Woodburn couldn’t cut it, clearly. It’s actually testament to Henderson’s character that he’s thrived with us and you can see how quickly he’s grown up just in the last 18 months.

He played against Wednesday he was just a bit anonymous.

He’s had contrasting January’s hasn't he?!

Just joined Norwich (6th worst PL team of all time) City on a permanent deal.

Seems like a pre-replacement for the outgoing Cantwell to me.

Similar kind of player.... think he’ll be a good fit for Norwich.

Dowell is a great example of why sometimes talent isn’t enough.
I rate Dowell as a player but there’s obviously something wrong when he can‘t hold down a place.
He does seem to be light weight and lack physicality. Maybe he has attitude issues too.

Agree, he's a bit lightweight. Should suit Norwich perfectly.........

He never struck me as a lad with an attitude, but I could be wrong of course.
