Kevin McCabe on David Brooks

It's ok to sell. Seriously I'm fine with it. It's a necessity of the modern game.

BUT

It's about timing and you don't sell £50m potential players for £2m or even £5m when you know that their value will increase massively by holding onto them for longer.
That's all well and good and I more or less agree but if he were to get an injury (let's hope he doesn't) his value would decrease just like we saw with Diego.

Amazing this thread's got so far then really

The reason it has is due to the fact a large number of us strongly believe Brooks really is a special talent and the likelihood of him going for magic beans sticks way further down in the craw than losing DCL or the jug eared cunt.

We'd better not sell him ffs our most promising player that provides an exciting spark. Surely now we're championship our offer of getting into the squad and upping his wage can entice him to not join a prem team where he won't see the light of day for at least 3 years. McCabe says you can't say no when you clearly can as long as they still have time on their contract and even though he just wants the money he's got to think that if we keep him and he becomes a young established championship player he'll be worth 5 x more than he is currently

Anyone ever seen Danny04 or Sunjihi in the same room?

What a lot of you also don't realise is that United attract junior players to our ranks by telling them:
"Come and play for us. We won't stand in your way if a bigger (Premier) club comes along at some point".
There is a competitive market for the likes of Brooks who leave the big academies. If we keep a younger player under contract play hard ball and if he then loses the chance at his dream move we will not be able to attract the same good young talent in the future.
Everyone in football knows that Utd are effectively a nursery club in that sense.
Annoying for us fans but until we are in the Premier and doing well it will keep happening

Every1 is a selling club.

Look at spurs. Lost the best right back in England to a team who finished below them.

And got 50m in the process
Man United are a selling club in that regard for letting Ronaldo go to Real

Absolutely, do you?

Absolutely not! Eighty max.

I got out while I could - there are plenty of easier jobs to do that also pay fuck all and have as much risk of redundancy (I'm not taking the piss with that comment either - it's simply the sad reality).

Best of luck.

I understand what you mean! But there's no other job like it. Cheers mate!

I don't know who allows him to talk to the media, it never helps.
.

This is spot on, he's far too candid for my liking when it comes to talking about our players. Just issue a stupid valuation like most other clubs would, not a veiled "come and get him" advert.

I like McCabe and won't criticise him for many things anymore but situations like this must really get up Wilders nose.

Contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on. McCabe is right. If another premier league club can double his money he'll go. It's not the club's fault it's up to the player. We can slap a high price on but that's it. If you were offered double salary by a rival company to the one you work for would you stay or go? Yeah exactly.
If i was offered half my salary i'd leave this job...But the difference is that in my job we don't have transfer fees.

Contracts have a value, but the value is only as much as another team is prepared to pay to buy it out. So keep players content, but hungry for more and have a decent bonus structure and have ambition within the club that we can make the Premier league. Players like Vardy exist

It'd be interesting to see when McCabe actually said what he was quoted in the article. The situation with Brooks has changed fairly dramatically in the last 3-4 weeks. If the quote pre-dates that then I think that it's michievous at best from The Star.

We're not trying to buy Leonard, we're trying to steal him. If it was just a case of buying him we'd have offered £1m and Southend would have rolled over. But we're trying to get him on the cheap. That takes time and effort.

Exactly, we're trying to force Southend's hand by causing disruption and hoping they get fed up with a player who's had his head turned. Wilder is even admitting we're chasing a player who's under contract elsewhere. Hardly standard protocol for many managers.

Whether anyone likes it or not, this ploy happens all the time in the game.

It doesn't.

I can, I said we'd have accepted the first offer.

DCL was a regular for Everton last year.
Ramsdale after a few games could be worth a shit tonne of money - Pickford has just gone for 30 mil.
Adams has just been subject of a rejected bid of 5mil from Fulham.

We always get fucked over in terms of young talent. All are worth more now than we sold them for last year. Anything above a million and we seem to consider it a good deal.

If we sold Brooks we'd sell him for miles under his worth cos we're behind the curve when it comes to the modern day market.
We got Adams for next to nothing, Brooksey was released by Man City, Fleck was free as was Freeman. But all you hear is we are the only club to get shafted. DCL & Rammers wouldn't have played, we used the money to buy players that made us Champions, that's great business in my opinion.

and lost out on potential millions in the process due to how much they'd be worth now

So our chairman has just basically put Brooks up for sale?

That reads like "come and get him" to me.

Who would be worth more being a reserve for a team in Lg1? Long was going to be worth millions, he's at Wimbledon, it's not only 1 way!!

Probably the most stupid post ever on here.
