He could just appoint Ron Martin from Southend. Some experts on here, probabky never run a business in there lives but know how to do it from their armchairs, I reckon if some of you were sat in a room and discussed it ( sensibly) with mccabe instead of slagging him off I reckon the majority would come out of the meeting with a different view. Or even better he appoints you to overlook all transfers and more importantly budgets.
There's a contradiction between points 1 and 2.
If the club set a valuation of 5 to 10 million then surely the agent will argue and produce figures proving he's worth £20K a week.
Are you suggesting we pay him £20K a week over 4 years?
That's 4.1 million, which seems a bargain if we believe he's a £10 million pound player.
One could argue paying Brooks £20K a week is a worthwhile investment but how would that make the other players feel? Will Fleck then demand £20K a week?
Exactly. All this 'we can't keep em if a big club comes calling' shit gets on my goat. Yes we know that is the case, most of us do live on planet Earth, but for once can we get to the second date before we drop our little spangly knickers and get royally humped by a higher division team. Tell any potential suitors that he's not available for any price shy of £10m. Let them cough up the money or go forth and multiply.
People might scoff at that figure but with the clear potential he has he could be a real player for us for half a decade and still be a relative pup. £10m in't a lot of money in the premier league these days. McCabe should hold his tongue or tell the media that he isn't for sale and if he was to go it would be for a fortune. A couple of million to a prem league team is pocket change.
They let him go on THEIR terms, for £75 fucking million!!It's the sad post-Bosman reality I'm afraid.
Even if we get in the Prem it won't stop. Everton couldn't hold onto Lukaku.
Danny I realise what you are saying but people make it sound so easy, it isn't and you know thatHe could just appoint Ron Martin from Southend.
Correct is isn't, but there's really no excuse for selling him. We have had a flow of income this summer unlike anything we've seen recently with sell on fees and promotion.Danny I realise what you are saying but people make it sound so easy, it isn't and you know that
Pigs wouldn't sell any of their best players period. That's a fact.I might generally take great delight in laughing at the porkers and love to make fun of them. What i will say about them to their credit is that I've yet to see a comment made in the media where Tuna Man has told the Wendy fans that 'we can't compete ane keep young Hirst if a premier club comes calling'? In fact it seems that they have already told Everton to go away when they started sniffin round young Thirsty. I will give em credit for that. OK if another prem club comes in for a young grunter then they too might have to sell, but it's just typical McCabe when the lad hasn't even started playing for us yet....and the white flag is being dug out of the box and readied to be hoisted up the mast.
McCabe is his own worst enemy at times. Just grow some balls pal...and this is coming from someone who is eternally grateful for him in saving us when we were in the shit.
More than anything I want him to play for us for at least a couple of seasons so I can enjoy watching him before the inevitable sale at which point I hope it is a deal we can all at say with shoulders shrugged at least the fee we have received is brilliantCorrect is isn't, but there's really no excuse for selling him. We have had a flow of income this summer unlike anything we've seen recently with sell on fees and promotion.
For the record too, it wasn't the sales of the 3 aforementioned players that annoyed me so much but the price we got for them. Look how much Charlton got for Lookman and DCL played a LOT more than him last year.
The pigs have considerably more money than us.Pigs wouldn't sell any of their best players period. That's a fact.
Chansiri certainly wouldn't embarrass himself trotting this shite out that Kev has this afternoon.
The thing is though, when you've just recieved £7mil in unexpected money and gained promotion - it really is.McCabe, although ideally he wouldn't have commented publicly, hasn't said anything any sane person doesn't already know and it's all true.
Some of the forum negotiation experts are cringing. Make it all sound so simple.

Course it is.The thing is though, when you've just recieved £7mil in unexpected money and gained promotion - it really is.

I hate giving Wednesday credit but over the years I have heard the phrase "he's not for sale" come from them on a number of occasions. Most recently this was said of Westwood. United never say this.
Even if it's not true, it's part of getting a good deal.
Why isn't it then?Course it is.
You have only heard that since Chansiri was in charge, they were a selling club, just like us before his arrival
No, they've done that with other players over the years, stretching back to their PL days.
I can, I said we'd have accepted the first offer.
DCL was a regular for Everton last year.
Ramsdale after a few games could be worth a shit tonne of money - Pickford has just gone for 30 mil.
Adams has just been subject of a rejected bid of 5mil from Fulham.
We always get fucked over in terms of young talent. All are worth more now than we sold them for last year. Anything above a million and we seem to consider it a good deal.
If we sold Brooks we'd sell him for miles under his worth cos we're behind the curve when it comes to the modern day market.
well if you can presume all those things I'll have go.Why isn't it then?
You give Brooks a new contract based on what he's done so far in his development and a very impressive pre season. Based on the assumption that he's going to be at the very least on the cusp of the first team next year.
He's happy, at least for the season where we can watch him develop and enjoy him before the inevitable sale to a top side.
I know we're a selling club but I'd rather we turned into one with a bit of a backbone. It's all a bit boring hyping these youngsters up to see them never even play a first team game.
No they have sold players, just like we have over the years
We'd have heard about it.For every Kyle Walker there's a Jordan Slew !
I agree that we seem to undersell, and other youngsters seem to go for higher amounts but potential is impossible to put a price on, I can remember a few years ago, Connor Brown was considered a better prospect than both Kyle's yet where is he now.
We are well down the food chain and nothing will change re selling young players, it's not an SUFC thing, it's not Kevin McCabe, it's modern football.
Who knows, we may well have 'held fast' and turned down a decent fee for the great Diego a few years ago ?
We never get a fair price.well if you can presume all those things I'll have go.
Brooks and his agent might be happy letting his contract run down, good early season start and he's on the radar of all major clubs.
He sees the money being thrown about and what other youngsters are achieving at top clubs. SUFC can't compete.
SUFC have to cover themselves, so when Brook indicates he has no intention of committing long term do we let the contract expire and get a pittance at tribunal and have fans criticise or get a fair price when his value whilst with is it at its peak.
I agree. I also thought of an answer to my question as i was walking the dog - if it was written into his contract as a release clause, he would go for whatever triggered the release. We could just give him a deserved improved contract now.
Based on his performances for England and us in pre season his development deserves reward.
Bring him closer in line with the first team, make him feel valued.
McCabe, although ideally he wouldn't have commented publicly, hasn't said anything any sane person doesn't already know and it's all true.
