Having just listened back to certain parts of last nights commentary I find it hard not to be a little embarrassed by some of his comments and whilst I respect Edwards as a former Sheffield United player and to an extent as a presenter and representative for the club over the years, I can't help but ponder other alternatives for the live commentary.

Don't get me wrong I agree with Edwards at times regarding "doing the basics correctly" however I personally find some of his opinions a little dated and out of touch with the modern game, due to this he finds himself getting frustrated which in my opinion simply breeds negativity. At times in the past I have simultaneously watched us on the box whilst listening to Edwards on the radio and he is ripping into certain players when quite frankly I fail to see his problem.

I am not one for "sacking" as such however I do think it would be nice for us to have a change in opinion on the show. Somebody who is more in touch with the modern game maybe? I don't know about you about but I have found Kevin Gage's columns in The Star to be very decent reads? Maybe he is worth a regular punt?

Living in Leicester, I can never get live Radio Sheffield commentary. :(

He's having a hip operation soon so will be off the radio for a few months.

He stood in for Kiosk Keith a couple of years ago. He was very good. Holdsworth on the other hand was fucking appalling. Didn't know half the players' names and tried to get in every football in-joke known to man. Awful.

Edwards has become a tired old cliché.

What's DD up to, sure he's touting for work :-)

I am biased towards my favourite Blade (did I mention I bumped into him walking down the main street in Fleetwood before the recent game :)) but at the end of the day, you're less likely to like listening to someone who you disagree with and winds you up than someone you agree with. I agree though that regardless of his views, he does get stuck like a broken record at times which sometimes weakens his point (often valid). From RS's point of view, they need someone who is going to come out with something different and not necessarily toe the party line otherwise it'd be even more boring than some think it already is.

I wonder what it would be like if most on here got the job, that wouldn't involve much moaning at all would it :)

Trust me, on Radio Derby they have Craig Ramage as co-commentator who has the worst guttural Derby accent you could ever wish to hear and makes Robbie Savage seem like Guillem Ballague when it comes to journalistic input and punditry. For all of Keith's faults - it could be worse.

I normally like him, as he's obviously a passionate Blade, wears his heart on his sleeve, and is always good for a bit of banter. But yes, maybe he should tone it down about the old days. Football tactics have changed, and what he sees as "basics" are not always right. Last night he was saying something along the lines of "defenders should stick to defending, strikers should stick to attacking - they shouldn't try to do each other's job". While true as a very general rule, this can't always always be applied to every situation, and last night we shoould and did throw everything but the kitchen sink at the opposition, rightly imo.

On Saturday he was criticising (albeit tongue in cheek) a Shrewsbury player for wearing gloves. Then he made a serious point that players should never wear them, whatever the weather, which is bollocks imo.

As I said, I like KE and wouldn't get rid of him,. He's been a fixture on Blades comms almost from the beginning of the Internet era. I'm always disappointed when he's absent from a commentary. But I admit, he does talk some bollocks at times. Like Ranmoor said, he's going to take a break of a few month soon due to a hip operation, so they may well have a replacement lined up.

I can think of some good alternatives though. If Warnock ever retires, I'd love to see him as the expert summariser.

So which of Edwards' comments were you embarrassed by? Not a dig, just interested. Personally, I have no issues with him, other than his continual tempting of fate!

What I would say however, that from listening to Gage do co-comms at our win at Bristol City, his level of analysis was far in advance of Edwards and was a really good listen. As was our tonking of the champions elect that day! I'd be happy if he were to take on the role, at the very least for the period Edwards is away getting his hip sorted out.

Yeah he's quite a poor pundit. always moaning and simplistic, his opinions often echo vastly outmoded footballing concepts. Legendary Blade status aside, there must surely be a better man for the job.

I can't think of anything worse.

Welcome to the 'Neil Warnock Show'.......

Me, me, me, it's all about me.

Tell 'em about the tractor Neil and how you used to watch the Norwich bus come through Frecheville on a cup saturday, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The unintentional comedy scale is shattered.

I can't be objective about this. King Keith is my all time favourite Blades player and as far as I am concerned can do or say anything he damn well pleases.

But the Bladey Claptrap Express rolls on regardless....

He's not exactly a Blades legend but Danny Webber is just starting to do some punditry work, and he was at BDTBL last night. Obviously still has a soft spot for us as he tweets about us fairly regularly.

Radio Sheffield VHS is on Channel 734 Freeview on my telly Highfield if you want to try that mate. I use it to listen to Praise and Grumble, but it we're the main match it'll be on there. I get it ok in Derbyshire so it's maybe worth a try.

I was listening intermittently last night, the commentator made a witticism about somebody taking the gloves off 'meaning business' (ok so far) but then we had to listen to Edwards rattle on about how he didn't have his mind on the game or be putting the effort in because he was wearing gloves. Embarrassing, as was pointed out.

I can't listen to commentaries if I don't go to the game. If I do try we always sound as though we're about to concede and we usually do, :( But I tend to agree with Edwards's summing up if I listen back online. Compared to the gushing squealing Pig co-coms I think he comes across pretty level headed with a bit of humour.

Me, I like summarising me. I like me, me.

Out of date that, he's had more Botox since then and he uses this.......

Keef the one who just loves to tempt fate

Nice bloke an all that, but sometimes, just sometimes I wish he'd just keep his big gob shut for a while

Much prefer Edwards.

Very opinionated and tells it how it is.

If we're poor, he says it.
Tries to find positives when we're poor and tries to fin negatives when we have won. He also gives credit to the opposition when warranted.

Some people just don't like honest assessments.

I remember when we played Burton away last season when they were top. He said they were just workmanlike/ordinary and he wasn't impressed with them. His words were they are in a false position and he can gaurantee they'll slide down the division. Oooops.

He also had a spell last season of saying "We'll win this match because the opposition have offered nothing. They are poor", then a few minutes later we concede. Oops.
