Do fellow Blades feel that the much mooted idea of keeping this squad together is a problem of getting a fighting performance out of the team?
They have heard from Wilder, the board, and temporary manager that they should be kept together.
Not much incentive to bust a gut.
Hopefully a new manager will assess what we have and fire them up or move em out.

Double edge sword.
They are playing abysmal.
Did play good enough for PL last season, so in theory should be fixable.
But after this season they look a different bunch.
But, can we really do a massive rebuild?? Seems a huge project.

On the basis that it is difficult to understand and explain how something that was good, turned to dogshit almost overnight, players that have been poor this last year WILL come good again.

The worry would be that players who have not shown good form previously, mostly the PL flops, won’t come good. And will be difficult to offload as a consequence !!

From today’s starting eleven I would build around
Ramsdale, baldock and Egan.
Possibly keep fleck and bash, dizzy off the bench and the rest should be either moved on or be squad fillers if we cannot get suitable replacements.

why keep the core when in the main it is terrible

Jeez, it seems so long since the team were playing well, I think I need to watch some of last season's performances. I think my memory is trying to shut down.

It really is a tough one. They (the players) this season have become desensitised with losing to a point they probably know deep down they're going to lose before a ball has been kicked. I know in footballing terms things have fallen beyond belief but mentally they are shot and that can, and will have a serious impact on performance.
If any of these players can overcome this mental breakdown and recover next season will have to be seen.
This is an area the next manager will need to focus on in fine detail.
We really need team who enjoy playing football again and find the band of brothers attitude we had not so long ago.

"Togetherness is huge. I just can't see anybody getting results in team sport without being together"

Apart from Lundstram and probably Berge, I think the rest of them will still be there next season.

Whoever the new manager is has got an enormous task in turning it round, installing some confidence and belief.
The form of at least half a dozen of them has dropped off a cliff after the last 2 seasons.

We need to keep a lot of them because a, no one is going to buy them and b, we can't afford to replace them.
Is it common knowledge that we can't afford to replace them how do some fans know exactly what finances we have got! According to some we're skint even though we have parashute payments

Sell off anything that isn't nailed down to recoup of much as the spunked 120m.

From that build up a decent team.

There is nobody you'd be gutted to lose. Even Didzy did absolutely nothing of note yesterday. Fleck and Norwood can barely take a decent set piece between them. Sander has a bit gap between reported potential and actual contribution. Osborn is. Game Trier but too weak with little end product. The defence can't keep a clean sheet. Rammers looking more assured every week but cost a relative fortune.

So I'm personally a bit meh right now.

We were garbage yesterday against a team we could have had aspirations of beating.

Deadwood needs weeding out.rake out the non triers. Propogate the young ones.nurture the good players.fork the rest. Sorry got so bored with the game today after half time went in the garden .
Sitting outside in the rain is better than watching that shower!!

It’ll vary game after game for a lot of people dependent on performances I feel, and, as already stated some players WILL come good:

sell/release:
Lundstram - (we all know)
Stevens
Burke
Lowe
Jags
Foderingham
Robinson
Moore
Rodwell
Eastwood
Smith

keep:
Ramsdale (obvious reasons)
Baldock - solid in the championship
Fleck - provided he finds some hunger
O’Connell - let’s hope and pray that he does come back never mind to what standard.
Basham - I’m not sentimental but I’d love him to retire he, will still do a more than adequate job in the championship.
Berge - IF he stays, build around him and play a style that actually suits him.
Mcburnie - again, if we don’t just knock it long and actually give him the chance to play, will prove his worth.
Sharp - has to stay around the squad, will still score a few and stays as an older head.
mousset - people will say and probably rightly that he doesn’t deserve another chance, I’m prepared to allow him one more if a new manager (not a mini wilder) can get his head right.
Egan - just about drops into the keep section, I don’t see as many qualities as many others in him.
Norwood - again, just about stays based on his championship record, was a big player for jokanovic in the Fulham team that went up.
Mcgoldrick - stays in championship for me, brilliant on his day and has been the outfield player of the season for me.
Bogle - the one prospect in the current first team.
Osborn - think he has a role to play.
Brewster - I’m torn but I feel we can’t just give up on him.
freeman - felt he was harshly sent out on loan, another one wilder just decided he didn’t like, will do a job in the championship.
Verrips - rave reviews in Holland and has played a large role in FC Emmen making a solid fight of it to stay up.

others to stay:
Norrington-davies
N’diaye - wherever he has disappeared to.
Slater
Jebbison
Brunt
Gordon

It’s what’s going on between their ears, that’s pissing me off. They should all be playing for their futures now, whether it’s with us or elsewhere. I may look at it differently when this debacle of a season is over. But I am ashamed of these players and won’t shed a tear for any of them, if they leave.

That would need a dozen new better players which is far too many in one window.

The biggest challenge this group of players face is changing their mentality. They’ve been used to losing for so long and it takes a lot to just switch back to a winning one.

Makes me think we do need to phase some of the ‘core’ players out the team and bring in fresh faces who have a hunger to do well.

Agree with all of that. Just wondering if there's a coaching role somewhere for Jags? Vastly experienced, knows the club, played at a high level.
Or am I being sentimental?

Agree with all of your release/sell list although Moose would definitely be on it. I’d drive him to his new home myself given that his Lambo is currently off the road.

I’d probably add any of Fleck, Norwood, Brewster and McBurnie as well if we can find buyers at a sensible price.

Possibly but he’s always struck me as someone who’d make a decent coach. I know some of the German and Dutch clubs look to keep hold of ex-players who’ve shown leadership qualities or intelligence and train them up. I remember reading about how some clubs will give ex-players a bit of experience in different roles, from coaching to administration, so they can see what they like and what they’re good at.

Ajax for example. I’m not sure if we’re in a position to do this at present but I think there’s some merit in the approach.

Hopefully the 5 out of contract don't get new deals and that's a start of deadwood gone.

You're assuming the traumatic experience of this season will just be water off a ducks back.

Whereas I see the inability to shrug off the previous performances, despite the freedom of already being relegated, as almost cast iron proof this group of players is shot to pieces and never coming back from it.

True.

But I have been spectacularly unimpressed by the standards in the Championship, and believe we have several players in the squad who could, at anywhere near their best, be stand out performers in this division.

If these championship teams perform anything like Everton then we'll be reet

Not at all. Zero pressure game.

From minute one from next season the pressure will be back on, more so than it ever was this season... expectations from the fans towards the team and the new man in charge. Snatching a 1-0 away at a miserable Everton is a world away from the real tests to come.

The pressure or pressing on the pitch will be less thus giving us more time on the ball. Norwood step forward
