Keepers jeepers

I am always harsh on keepers...having played there myself I tend to over analyse and sometimes aportion blame when maybe it is unjust. I will say that!

I just felt the shot at Chesterfield went straight through him (like some Howard was letting in towards end of his reign) and a few others such as Oxford (when it came off him) and also at Scunny (both goals) would have seen Long get criticised and feel it is important to show some balance.

Interesting he is escaping blame for the goal yesterday but I guarantee if Long has been in the goal he would have been getting pelters. To me the keeper has to come for anything in his 6 yard box (the goal is scored from around 3-4 yards) but one thing a lot are overlooking is he should have been responsible for getting the defence much further out. Again if that had been Long I am sure many would have criticised him for this and not organising his defence or showing enough command of area/players in front of him. Even when the kick is taken, so many United players are almost in the 6 yard box. It was asking for trouble for us to be do deep.

Moore wasn't fully to blame, to be stuck on your line though Paddy Kennyesque is nor here or there, you are very likely to concede if the ball is four yards out so there should be questions asked of our keeper in this instance.

Lafferty was shocking leading up to the free kick and our concentration levels need to be better in future.

Absolutely no blame on the keeper at all for me. If Moore had come out and missed it in the ruck and it had gone in he would have got absolutely slated.

We'd got enough big defenders that would normally attack and clear that cross, his job was to protect his goal if they didn't. If he'd made the save, nobody would have said that he should have come out and punched it would they? This is one of those scenarios where whatever the keeper did would have been wrong to some if they scored.
The centre backs should attacked the ball full stop it's their ball.

I don't want our unbeaten run to end but when it does what a relief for you nit picking moaners, all that pent up anger that's been supressed for weeks will come flooding back on to the forums.
For gods sake get a grip, all teams miss chances and concede in the last minute not just us. Enjoy the turn around in our fortunes and rather than dissecting every mistake and looking for a fall guy, try getting behind the team and appreciate the good things they do.;)

Has to be taken in context though ,it was the 93rd minute of a game which they had never threatened and the defence were nervous ,there is no point in going for a ball that you are never going to get to and would expect your big centre halves to defend. I have said all along EEL is raw and needs Wright to talk him through games in my opinion, I doubt we would have conceded had Wright been on the pitch.

Agree, we were too deep and the keeper needs to play a part in pushing his defence out. Overall, he's a big improvement on what's gone before.

Don't think you need a tin hat, Moore is better than Long but has still been questionable at times and the jury is probably still out. Give it 12 - 18 months and Ramsdale will be the no 1, he's got the potential to be the best keeper since Alan Kelly.
Oh no...please don't. This is where we came in with George Long. It's rare for young lads to become competent first choice keepers. You need experience between the sticks.

I'd be looking to get a top performing league 1 keeper in - that lad from Shrewsbury was as good as any I've seen this season.
