Player Suggestion Keeper

If we can sign an 'emergency keeper' diesnt that make a mockery of the rules given we must have 5 or 6 keepers including those on loan and only 2 of them are injured ?

Good question. I'd expect he could only be recalled in January now.

You've also got a handful in the free market. Alex Smithies until Jan? Seems not unreasonable. There are others Berke Ozer was the Turkey U21 keeper and played a fair few first XI games at Fenerbahce, only 22. Karius doesn't have a club. But I just don't see a foreigner coming over for such a short spell guaranteed. Would Blackman fancy it? He's familiar with the place.

Could be potentially very tricky especially with a mid season break for a number of the players where they could recuperate.

Smithies is a decent shout. Can take the pens.

As long as you don't fill up the entirety of the squad list, you can add a free agent, regardless of position, any time you want
 
What injury has Wes got? Saw him at the driving range last Wednesday, he was there a good couple of hours, looked good. Obv don’t expect him to be wrapped in bandages just wondered what his injury is? The way he was playing didn’t seem anything up with his top half.

PH said that he's not getting a keeper in because the shirt is Foderinghams, that they probably would if we had loads of cash spare, but we haven't so he'll just use the emergency loan option if Wes is out. There was no suggestion that Wes wouldn't be fit
 
It does worry me. It's unlikely that Wes will have played a game in pre-season if he starts against Watford. Keepers need minutes too. Bit of a risk and a a risk we're talking because money is tight. If he's off form, then we're stuck until Davies is fit. If he gets injured, then we can bring an emergency loan in, but they'll not likely have had a pre-season.

“In an ideal world you would,” admitted Heckingbottom, when asked if he plans to enter the transfer market for a replacement goalkeeper while Davies recovers.“But it's Wes's shirt and Jordan will be on the bench, with Dylan competing for that. We know we’ll just have to be really swift if something did happen to Wes, we'd have to get an emergency loan in really quickly.

“In an ideal world, if we had endless funds in the budget to do it, we'd probably do it [sign a replacement]. But it's good experience for our young players, to be in and around it, and Wes of course performed extremely well for us last season.”
 
If it’s going to be 5 or 6 games; we need to go down the emergency loan route.
1 or 2? Give Amissah a chance.

By keeping Wharton and Amissah around we have keepers who can get us through the friendlies.

Once it gets to the proper stuff they aren't counted as options in terms of having league experience so if Davies is out and Wes takes a knock, then we will be eligible for the emergency loan market for the next game.

That is then going to give us the pick of a number of third choice PL keepers for a short period, which will suit them as they won't want them away for too long but will probably welcome the short term experience and suit us as we'll not want to pay for longer than we need.

Butland (Palace)
Adrian (Liverpool)
Randolph (West Ham)
Kasilla (Leeds)
Steer (Villa)

Smith (Forest)

It's not the who's who, but it's not the worst go to list to pick from in an emergency.

Wonder if they'd take a 6 month contract if we agreed they get a shot at the number one spot if they play well covering Fods/Davies
 

Am I right in thinking that you can't have an emergency loan until the transfer window is shut?

Butland puzzles me. A few years ago he seemed like the next big thing, but seems to have taken a Joe Hart-esque decline.
