I think it is safe to assume after this comment in NAs latest interview that he has been told there's nothing in the pettycash tin until Jan when we will evaluate where we are and "kick on"

Although I personally find this staggering I think we have to accept it for the time being and get behind the boys as we should all season.

We are basically going with the 'pub fight' approach where we just go at it and see who can land the most fatal blows (in this case goals) JT64 mentioned this method on another thread basically saying we can't defend for toffee so we should just attack and it seems Adkins is thinking this way too.

So it's gonna be pretty up and down until Jan and we just have to hope Adkins stumbles across a way of 'keeping em out at one end'

If we fail again this season serious changes are needed from top to bottom.

Until then UTB and enjoy the ride!

What are the board going to do if we actually go up this season? M

...but Adkins doesnt have 'petty cash'..he has 'all of the Murphy money'...doesn't he?

It appears that we missed out on Adkins preferred two targets due to our negotiating skills...and maybe not being willing to pay 'over the odds' re wages..!?!?

I'm all for us not paying over the odds", as it's repeatedly doing that that's led to the current mess.

I'm more concerned that the Murphy money isn't actually available at all.

We miss out on targets like Hammond and Burns and it's neither a surprise nor something new. The majority of players aren't going to drop down to our division.

We need to focus in January on getting players from this division or lower, pick the better players like Done, Baxter, Kieran Wallace and Che Adams

Jim Phipps would spend the whole summer on Twitter instead of coming up with a serious plan for the club in the championship.

The Prince would be deciding how best to spend the £50 million budget.... On his Dream Team.

McCabe????

Does he?

If / when everyone's fit, we have a squad of 30 + which needs trimming before we can reasonably bring anyone in of the type he's alledgedly looking at i.e. players from a higher level. The trouble we have is offloading the likes of Cuvelier and Wallace. I suspect January will be as much about outs initially to keep us within the pesky rules.

'Oh and we now have more, Jim Phipps has just tweeted - "100% of the transfer fee will be instantly made available to Nigel Adkins"

So according to 'big Jim'..yes...I guess the key words are 'will be instantly made available'...I doubt we've received 100% as yet so guess Adkins has received nothing of the Murphy cash as of now...still, he should be able to plan and bring his targets in now knowing that 100% of this cash will be available to him...it's a puzzle isn't it?

Stop bloody whingeing will you, it's getting really boring.
We're sixth, five points off the lead which is nothing at this stage.
We are scoring goals for fun, something we've not seen for years.
Done is back, Brayford's coming back, Adams is starting to show his potential, lots more positives and people are moaning about McCabe, Phipps, "the board", we will sell our best players in January like we did last January (except we didn't) ... it's pathetic frankly.

...but, according to rumours, those players mentioned appeared willing to play for Adkins in L1...with Hammond it was rumoured to be the percentage of wage and with Burn Fulham don't/didn't have the strength in depth to let him go at that time...

...we've been around 6th in L1 for five years or so years...fans are going to discuss why on a football forum...to do otherwise would be truly pathetic...

I remember Clough telling us how we would be stronger the second half of the season and whilst the beard finally got over the line, results told us we weren't stronger regardless.

We need a player or two now.

We have a list of injuries

We have a makeshift defence that it can be argued is our achiles heel and will cost us results

What is the point of trying to play catch up come January/February when it may well be too late and I say February because we seem to take an age in negotiations to get a player over the line and I think Brayford arrived February. Just because the window opens in Jan means fk all were we are concerned.

We've already lost 4 league games. How many more before something is done to address our weaknesses, remembering that a few more defeats could mean auto is beyond us?

Just because we won yesterday does not paper over the cracks of how difficult it for this current team to get results and two wins from the last 6 league games backs that up. At the moment, we are scraping results, are far from convincing and conceding goals like the old proverbial sieve.

If NA has the funds, then imo he should use them to strengthen the areas that need strengthening. Waiting until Jan/Feb is a no no.

I appreciate the view that the current large squad will need trimming. However, no one at the club has told us that players have to leave before we can add and I'll back that up by saying we've let Higdon go out on loan and sold Murphy. Does that not free up some wages for a further signing?

6th in L1? Wow. How could anyone possibly be disappointed with that?

The fact is with a half decent Board we would be top 2 and on our way out of this awful division.

To me it is obvious we tried and failed for Burn and Hammond in the Transfer Window and that the manager is keen on both.

For whatever reason they are not available now but do we detect they may be in January, or maybe even before if circumstances change at Fulham and Leicester?

Burn is always on the bench for Fulham but Hammond never features.

Adkins could presumably go for different players but that has to be his call -1. wait, 2. recruit temporarily alternatives or 3. sign permanent alternatives. If something at either above club is likely to change by January then perhaps it is worth the wait, after all, if the deals are permanent then the benefit is felt for 3 years or so and this uncomfortable current period might or might not be critical, fingers crossed.

Unless the issue with Hammond is to do with FFP (we must be close to it given Beard's supposed wages and the size of the squad) then I can only imagine we're not prepared to pay the percentage Leicester want. Which, would seem like madness given how much extra money we'd get if we finally manage to get out of this league.

Our promotion ambitions and the title of this thread remind me a bit of a holiday romance
We keep in touch till xmas but wont spend any money to stop it being forgotten about by next summer

Unsure what it has to do with FFP. We were fine with FFP when we had Murphy then sold him for 2m and also have his wages to play with. It's not rocket science (not aimed at you by the way)

If it's FFP rules then what is wrong with telling us that robbie?

If we can't/won't pay what Leicester want, I'm not sure what is wrong with saying so?

Does our Nige only have two targets in the whole of the FL?

Surely there is a plan 'B' ?

Hammond's wages will be 3 or 4 times those of Murphy. It would depend on the percentage.

As amazing as it was to just about do enough to scrape past Rochdale at home, it's about seeing the bigger picture.

If only we were in a loan window and could easily take someone on a temporary basis.

Agreed. A few years ago we were always told we were struggling to stay within FFP but now it's not even trotted out as an excuse, which makes me think it isn't an issue.
