So why is it ok for you to be angry at United's stewardship, but not anyone else? Especially as the period others are angry at is a far lower ebb for the Club than when you were angry at them?Still seeing "same old board" bollocks so I will have another try.
I saw my first Blades game in 1966 so celebrate 50 years next year. I was here when we sold Jones and Birchenall; here when we sold Deane and Fjortoft; here when we sold the two Kyles. All three of those made me very angry and in fact on one occasion I wrote such an angry letter to Kevin McCabe that he rang me up at home on a bank holiday Monday to discuss the matter.
Anyway I don't like us selling our best players but the people who are whining on about Murphy as if it was in the same category as the above – I'm story but it isn't.
We signed Sharp, Sammon, Woolford (and then Edgar). We sold Murphy.
Window before that, we signed Brayford, Coutts, Freeman and Done. We sold no one.
How in God's name is that the "same owd same owd board" selling our best players and not replacing them?
Get real, people. Liverpool sold Sterling. Tottenham sold Bale. Ilkeston lost Adams and Wallace to the Blades. That's football, especially nowadays when the players have so much more freedom. If you can get any kind of half-decent fee when someone wants to move on you are doing well.
The fact is that the "same owd same owd board" invested heavily on Clough's behalf, misguidedly as it turned out but I blame Clough rather than the board – he's supposed to be the expert.
When that didn't work out, the "same owd same owd board|" paid him and his staff off and invested heavily again, this time in the best man available.
Since then ... Adkins has started sorting out the ludicrously bloated squad, got the team playing attractive football and scoring lots of goals for the first time since Ched-knows-when, we are in the playoffs, we are less than two wins behind the leaders, we kept a clean sheet at the previous leaders, we are doing just fine so keep it in perspective for pity's sake.
We also have Sharp with six goals and I wouldn't swap him back for Murphy – because those goals will get us out of this league. Along with those of Adams, five already, and yes a Clugh signing but one that Adkins is bringing along just fine. Lots to be happy about but I think some on here are only happy if they have something to moan about I really do.
How are we keeping in touch? By e-mail, phone, letter or fax?

I agree with you to a certain extent but replacing Murphy (a championship quality player) or Maguire (a premier league bench warmer) is no easy task. They both made a step up and players of the same quality will be playing at a higher level.Sorry mate but we are not doing just fine ....... we are underachieving on a biblical scale and we have still to replace Maguire, let alone Murphy !!
Every player has a price ( although our drop our shorts price is often pretty low ) but to run a Club and progress ( forwards ) you have to replace the sold players with equivalent quality.
If you don't ..... then you condemn yourself to self-imposed exile in an agricultural division for 5 years and counting ...... the way we're looking this season so far its going to be 6 years and counting ....
UTB & FTP
Yep, I agree but as I say, having it and spending it are two entirely different matters.Surely the Murphy sale makes some money available?
UTB
Not sure. We'll get quite a lot of TV money so we can carry a bigger wage bill and a lot of players are out of contract at the end of the season so it shouldn't be a problem.Have thought about this this morning. What if we spend loads and loads this season and get promotion, will we have to sell players due to the Championship FFP rules? Bristol City spent loads last season but have made only two signings for this season (apart from loans)

Of course every club outside the Premier league is a selling club, but every year three of these selling clubs get promotion out of League One.Like it or not every club is a selling club outside of Barcelona and Real Madrid. Ronaldo Man U - Real, Suarez Liverpool - Barcelona etc.
Can you explain why maybe not? All very confusing considering the rules that you can spend 60% of income on players and we have lost Murphy and Higdon from the wage bill too. What am I missing?
Sharp (probable 500K fee + big wages), Sammon and Edgar will both be on more than anyone other than Brayford and Woolford will be on a fair whack. I suspect all the Murphy money covers these four short term which is why we probably need to offload a few, well we definitely need top offload a few.
“We will finish above all the teams presently above us in any event.”- That’s a very bold statement and one I’m not convinced I agree with. I hope you’re right because if we pick up enough points to see off all those teams above us, I can only see maybe Wigan getting more so that should make us top 2. Personally, I’m far from convinced at the moment that we’ll finish above Coventry. Wallsall and Gillingham are tough to call. Both have made very good starts. But Wallsall have a habit of selling their best players. For a change, this summer they didn’t. Let’s see if they can make it through January. Despite our tendency to sell our best player in August, I think we are less vulnerable than our rivals mid-way through a season if we are in the mix. I think we'll finish above Burton. Bury are another tough one to call. Those clubs don't have lots of strength in depth but if they have good luck with injuries, could go the distance. I can't help but think that this quote might lead to another "PInchy said" signature.
“Unlike you, me and the Deadline Day Devotees, Nigel Adkins has done this before.”- You could argue we have been doing “this” for the last 5 years. This being selling our best player every summer, talking about signing someone on deadline day, then talking about getting them on loan, then making do, then being off the pace. It’s all too familiar. We all hope it’ll be different this time some scepticism is entirely understandable.
It is but we would rather pretty pitch...Of course every club outside the Premier league is a selling club, but every year three of these selling clubs get promotion out of League One.
It's about spending money intelligently and strengthening key areas (and not waiting a year and half to buy a replacement centre half).
Those players were already at the club before Murphy was sold so we would have been with ffp then wouldn't we? Add whatever we're getting for higdon as well to get Adkins number 1 targets.
