Second signing

Blades sign 6'4'' Finnish centre back Kallio from Fulham.

Now on OS.

Its reads that he can play CB or LB so we'll see him on the RW saturday........

The Finland international made fleeting appearances for Fulham last season having made his debut in the memorable 1-0 defeat of Arsenal, but whenever called upon, at left-back or centre-back, Toni Kallio always stuck to the task.

Initially signed on loan in January 2008 on a six-month deal, the transfer was made permanent by Roy Hodgson last summer with the defender putting pen to paper on a two-year contract with the Whites.

A valuable member of last season’s squad also featured against Manchester United, in a game he shackled Cristiano Ronaldo with admirable resilience and Blackburn Rovers, as well as the Club’s Carling Cup games against Leicester City and Burnley.

The 31-year-old has a wealth of international experience, with almost 50 caps for his country. And with Fulham entering the group stages of the Europa League the former Young Boys defender’s European experience will no doubt be called upon.

Kallio has UEFA Champions League experience with HJK Helsinki, and UEFA Cup football with the Finnish club and Norwegian side Molde. Tough in the tackle and effective game awareness, Kallio is an important member of Hodgson’s squad.

Thats 9 loaners now, 4 of which have to be in the stand every week.

Ikeme
Bunn
Walker
Davies
Kallio
Stewart
Harper
Treacy
Cresswell

Having never seen the guy (or heard of him to be honest) looking at his record he has only played 2 games in the last three years.
Blackwell will probably come out with 'we shall ease him in when he gets match fitness at the back end of April'
Not expecting too much but mustn't pre-judge!

Did I mis hear or did Blackie just say on OS Killer may be gone by tonight?

He used to play for Molde here in Norway, though he was in and out of their team at the time. He prefers to play at left back, but is very versatile and has played centre half, left midfield, defensive midfield and as a target man. The official site has his age wrong, he's 31, not 33.

For a big guy he used to have decent pace and liked to go forward from his full back position, but I haven't seen him play at all the last few seasons. Like most Finnish players he's hard working and has a good attitude. I wouldn't expect anything fancy from him. Blackwell seems to have brought him in primarily for centre back.

31 years old & on loan.

So another one for the future then eh Kev?

Mrs travelling and I were in is home town of Tampere, this time last year.

We hope never to go back!!!!!!!!!!!

he's that good theyve let him come to us on loan

totally totally uninspiring. And another loanee.

To be fair though, who would we have likely to have loaned who you'd find "inspiring"?

I thought Stewart was a permanent signing?

He was. Creswell is being made permanent in January, so it's only 8.

Well, I say only 8

For the record I think Kallio is decent. I just hope we bring a couple more players in on a permanent basis. I'm fed up of all these bloody loans.

At the start of Jan,I think only Walker will be a loan.. Harper and Cresswell are signing(i'm sure I read they were to be fulll transfers) and Stewart is on a short term contract. The rest are due to go back to there own clubs(Treacy the last one I think as it was a six month loan)

I refuse to believe that the best players availaible for us to loan are two plodders from Blackburn.

Blackwell is using the loan market to plug holes in the squad. He's not using it to add value. If Hull could get a Man U loanee of the quality of frazier campbell to help their promotion push then why the hell can't we?

To be fair though, if we got Ronaldo and Messi on loan, they would look shite under Blackwell.

..or he'd play them out of position.

..or not at all!

Was speaking to a mate on the FIFA database team. I hate to do this to a guy who's not played for us yet but he's apparently bobbins at CB; good defensive midfielder though apparently.

I approve of the use of the word "bobbins"

Anyone got him on FM2010 yet?
